And if they were in the office they’d be shooting the shit with a co-worker, going for coffee, browsing Reddit, etc… The delusion some companies suffer that just because people are sitting in the office they are automatically 100% productive the whole time blows my mind. What do you guys start your max capacity at during sprint planning? I’m on the product side but always encourage teams to do 6 hours/day. So your two week sprint has 60 hours of available capacity to plan. The other 2 hours a day is all the other stuff. Restroom, chatting, goofing off, TV, whatever. And that’s when we are IN OFFICE. At home is a whole different ballgame. Come prepared to standup, demo, and be engaged in refinement and planning, and we are good. I’d rather have a dev team that is predictable, has stable velocity, doesn’t push stories, and routinely meets its commitments than anything else.
