At some point you realize meditation is less about sitting down, closing your eyes, following your breathe, etc and more about letting thoughts come and go without reaction. You have practiced daily to remove the I like chess and coffee and maybe 3 people vintage T-Shirt it is in the first place but parts of the practice required to hit “meditative state” or at least reduce the time required to quiet the mind of external distractions long enough to hit that non-reactive meditative state. Eventually the approach seeps into your daily life and habits. You don’t even realize you are “meditating,” it just becomes a habitual response to anything in life. When you practice being calm, your prefrontal cortex neurons “get stronger” (there is more to it, scientifically, but I don’t want to write a TEDTalk). Being anxious and overthinking is your Amygdala. Your Amygdala hijacks the brain in emergency situations to keep you alive.

The issue is society drives us to tell the I like chess and coffee and maybe 3 people vintage T-Shirt it is in the first place but Amygdala that we are having emergencies when we are not having life and death emergencies. So we get in this spiral where the Amygdala is running our lives from one anxious “emergency” to the next instead of the calm, logical prefrontal cortex which is designed for planning and decision making. By meditating, you are putting the prefrontal cortex back in charge of your brain and letting the Amygdala know that there is no emergency. Congratulations on beginning your meditation journey and experiencing its immediate benefits! This could very well be due to meditation, as even short periods can help us become more mindful and at peace. The Buddha spoke about the benefits of meditation in numerous suttas, such as the Anapanasati Sutta (MN 118), which outlines the mindfulness of breathing. Regular meditation can indeed bring about significant shifts in our mental state. However, it’s important to heed the Buddha’s teachings on impermanence (anicca). While it’s great to appreciate these positive changes, try not to cling to them. The practice is about being present with whatever arises, pleasant or unpleasant. Keep up your practice, but also prepare for possible future challenges. As the Buddha taught in the Four Noble Truths, understanding the root of our suffering is a key step in transforming it. This deeper understanding often takes time and consistent practice. the key to meditation and practise is that even if these feeling subside, and even if negative feelings start to arise, we stay present in the still awareness, the I AM state, regardless of what comes up in us. all the best on your path
