You’d need to replace every piece of fabric including the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this roof, you’d need to entirely replace the air duct system, every filter, and even then you will never have the peace of mind of removing all the mold. Get new seats, carpet, headliner, and have someone pull the dash to clean the AC system (there’s literally thousands in junk yards, and they’re not hard cars to work on). Back in business. I had a 2007 Mazda with 192,000 miles (308,000 km) on it. A tree fell on it last week and was declared a total loss. I’m still devastated because I want MY car. I took good care of it for a reason and now it’s just…. gone. Did this to my first car. It’s not that daunting of a task, just time-consuming. Tho, at 400km I doubt the return would be worth it.
I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt: get your shirt now
I would at least try to use a shampooer or steam cleaner. There is also a odor neutralizer called “pooph” I just bought it at Walmart and it’s amazing. 15$ for a normal “cleaner” sized bottle. She didn’t have one… as others have said correctly, all that was needed was starting her up and running for errands maybe twice a month. I had other options for holding it for a payment but she insisted Barely. She had started a divorce and has been going through it… her and I have a good relationship, so I forgave her somewhat… but she knows she broke my heart. Using the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this AC or heater would air the car out and get rid of the moisture, so the conditions wouldn’t be as so perfect for mold growth At 40yo I’ve never seen a moldy car before this week, this is now the fifth I’ve seen posted on various subreddits. Either she has always been a flake and he had no choice but to rely on her because he went to prison or something. Yea she was going through a divorce per OP. Fair it took a toll on her and it slipped through. Coulda let a friend handle it while she dealt with it, but an event like that takes a toll on people OP did not go to prison. They stated in another comment they had moved for a job opportunity. It’s extremely rude to assume someone went to prison because they had to have something important looked after for a period of time.
Using context clues, I’m thinking he wasn’t meaning it in a rude way but more like a “he literally was in a bind and couldn’t get out of it”, like a going to jail situation. I don’t think he’s implying OP is a bad person… more so just referencing the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this urgency of the situation. I didn’t assume they went to prison, I gave “going to prison” as an example where you’d be forced to rely on someone even if they’re a complete flake I’d also be concerned about the brakes since clearly it wasn’t even being started, moved or ran at all. You’ll want to drain the gas and oil too. Gonna cost you a little bit of money but if the car is worth saving it will be significantly less than buying a used car in today’s market.

Buy this I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt
If you can get it back on the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this road for $1000-1500 that’s still $6500 better than even the worst used cars right now. It’s been something I’m debating. I have a lot of auto guys I’m friends with but it’s still a choice between reviving the car or just scrapping for what I was quoted for ($500). I’d have to change out the seats since they are plush fabric, which I can possibly score at the yard but… the cleaning is extremely expensive. Yeah I’m not sure what your financial situation is but I read in another comment it has over 400km on it… that’s getting up there even for a bulletproof Toyota Corolla. I’m putting my old ford f150 (work truck) out to pasture after 455km of good hard service. It still runs well but it’s developing so many “quirks” that are going to cost a fortune to fix… electronic stuff not working properly, seats not sliding or adjusting properly, rear hatch rusting and seizing up, brakes and tires both need replacing which is easily $2500 or more on a big truck…
and it becomes a case of throwing good money at bad especially since who knows when a major breakdown like a transmission or differential could happen and all that money is just wasted. I just pulled the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this trigger on a new/used truck and the dealer is giving me $2200 for my old truck which sucks but honestly they’ll have to sell it as-is because safetying it would be a fortune. I’m kind of mechanical so if I was in your shoes and I really wanted to keep it alive I would probably buy a parts machine off a wrecker or off kijiji or something and see if I could get it running again – swap out the seats, brakes etc. But it just becomes a matter of what you can afford vs what you’re willing to do yourself and what you’d have to pay for.
Sorry that’s not really helpful at all. I just feel your pain cause I’m having to put a good old girl down myself… Ive got an 03 Corolla still running strong, it had some spots of mold in the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this trunk which are pretty bad. I was able to get some of it out with a carpet vacuum but I ended up going to my local junkyard and grabbing parts from a car there. Cost me around $40 for the pad in the back. The rest is probably going to be pretty expensive for you but Im sure its better than a new one rn I left my car for a year to be overseas and had to replace the battery and breaks. But the mold holy shyt that’s insane. Wow! My husband and I moved to Texas from the Detroit area. We actually lived 20 mins south of Detroit. We lived right off of Lake Erie. Where everything is always damp and muggy. We left one of our old vehicles at my MIL about 10 mins from Lake Erie. It had no shelter. We had ZERO mold issues. We did have maple sap spots on the exterior. It was there 3 yrs before we said sell it. Mold inside cars is not common in Detroit. Basements yes cars no.
Damn! You might be able to get lucky and rip out all the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this fabric and just replace all the seats from a junk yard. I wouldn’t scrap it Could have been bacteria in the seat cushions. I’m in southern Louisiana, a back glass has been busted out of an old car for 4 years. The seats still aren’t moldy. You can totally save that. You’ll need to spend some money on PPE, carpet, seats, a headliner, and a fair amount of white vinegar. A few days of low humidity will also help. Everything else needs to be saturated with distilled vinegar. (Should only need to soak for about an hour, but I usually soak it, let it dry some, soak again for a little while). After the mold has a chance to drink that delicious acid you soaked it with, go ahead and clean it up. Once finished, let it dry for a bit, then spray again and wipe with a clean rag. This is a project if you have the extra time and money to say you were able to do it yourself. You can also use it as an opportunity to upgrade your interior and get whatever color you want. You can do a custom headliner while you’re at it. You can get an o3 machine on Amazon fairly cheap. Run it in the car for about and hour, let it air out for 30 minutes. Wipe the mold out and vacuum the floors and headliner. That is assuming the seats aren’t cloth. If they are, do that then use a steam cleaner type machine on the seats and carpet. You would likely need to run the ozone, do a deep clean, run it again, and then do a deep clean inspection to clear out any mould spores that have still penetrated the seat foam, roof lining, carpets etc.
You could clear the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this smell & make it visually appealing easy enough, but there’s no guarantees you killed it all. As a Ford mechanic and someone who worked next a guy cleaning a modly Ford Mavrick while they were cleaning it up, you will never get rid of all of it. That car is now scrap metal. The Maverick had the entire interior removed, taken to bare metal with all new interior and everything that could smell inside the car and it still smelled of mold (as I was told. I still haven’t gotten my sense of smell back after almost a year). That’s just for one seat showing a little mold, if the entire thing looked like that it would be photographed and then sent to the incinerator. One most people probably don’t think about is any material inside of door panels, dashboards or under other objects to prevent rattles. For example the rear hatch on some vehicles will have a fiberglass mat to keep it from rattling. If you get mold and don’t swap it, it might continue to grow there.
Seats are bad but there isn’t much for mold there. The cushions are pretty small so it’s a worry but not as big as other often overlooked items hidden out of sight Car detailer. One who specializes in hazmat. They dismantle (or should) down to the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this floor boards. Everything is removed and cleaned. Good luck. Homie knows if his mom is the type to drop the ball like this. If she is, it’s his fuckup for asking her to babysit his car. If she’s not, then I don’t believe she’s involved at all. Plus theres no way that car was crystal clean and all the damage is from his mom. The picture was shock factor. No way the mom is the one to blame for how horrible this cars condition is. OP shouldve captioned this: after a year of being away, the damage Ive done to my car has begun to show in the form of mold and ____. Oh and also my mom mightve left the light on overnight LMAOOOOO I hate to break your heart, but unless your mom took a hose to the inside of your car and flooded it, then rolled up the windows- she didn’t do this to your car. You did. I’m guessing either parked without cover with one or more windows open, or the window seals went bad. I had to park my car for a month, and the window seals had gone, I had no idea. Battery was already dead so I wasn’t out trying to start it frequently… And yeah, it looked like this. Closed up with the heat coming in, but heavy rain being able to get it… There was like a half inch of water in all the floor boards, ugh. If you’re leaving your car for any length of time, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and place it somewhere away from metal. That’ll keep it from going dead.
Clean the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this interior of your car well before leaving it. No way a clean interior gets this moldy even in the supposedly “humid” southern Ontario. I gotta say… You really expected her to “maintain” your car for a year??? Was she supposed to drive it and get it cleaned for you lol tbf those are only the problems you see. If it hasn’t been driven in that long, there could be more wrong with it. Your car had to have already been nasty af for all that mold to grow in there. That doesn’t just happen on its own lol never at ANY point did you think to check up to see how it was going? or do you just treat your mother like a personal caregiver to random shit you decide to make her problem? Honestly, fuck your Corolla you’re going to have to do a little mold restoration. Your mom didn’t know dude. Be happy you had a mom to look over it to make sure no one stole it or cut out the cat converter And you had somewhere to store it. I know I sound like a asshole, but I don’t know I just don’t have that type of luxury in my life… one day you’ll realize.. I’ve seen cars in much worse condition be rescued by a good detail shop. There are amazing transformations on YouTube, your car isn’t dead! It’s just resting It pains me to tell you but you’re better off saying your goodbyes instead of trying to fix that. It’ll need to be stripped down to the bare guts and fully cleaned with concrobium mold control and even then, it’ll never be fully clean. Mold is tenacious.
The mold coincides with areas getting touched, leading me to believe the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this growth may be bacterial. I wouldn’t touch that with a stick. 357 more repliesI’ve seen cars in much worse condition be rescued by a good detail shop. There are amazing transformations on YouTube, your car isn’t dead! If you drop 500 or so, you could either get all the supplies to do the auto detail work yourself to get rid of it or pay more for a reputable auto detailer to clean it. The battery, you try to charge and change if it doesn’t charge If it makes you feel any better. I asked my dad to maintain my 96’ Subaru outback while I was gone for training with the Army. It got parked and forgotten. My brother ended using it as a daily driver and racked up a bunch of miles. He drove it to and from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Topeka, Kansas to move. Making multiple trips. He parked it along a curb near a storm drain. A flash flood hit and the drain was clogged or couldn’t keep up. Water flooded the inside of my car. Some reason my brother dug my original game boy out of closet at my parents. I found it under my seat when I came back. My first aid kit was water logged. Asked what happened. He finally revealed this all to me after the fact. So my game boy could be worth something today but it’s junk now. I chucked it. Never got any mold somehow.
Sure, the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this dead battery is one thing but there’s nothing your mom could have done besides maybe notice the mold a bit earlier on… Did you think the value of the car was gonna up during your absence? Why not sell it. Also you let the windows open I live in the tropics and I have a “project” car that’s been sitting for a few years under a tarp, nothing like this. And we have 70-90 humidity at 27-30s C year round. Did you establish that she knew how to maintain a parked car? Did you provide a dehumidifier? How did you expect it to be maintained? It’s a car… a 2005 Corolla at that. No offense but to be mad at your mother for a 20 year old car that you could have reminded her about through the year is petty as hell. And, to think you might charger her for it, I read in a comment, wow, petty as hell. What a kid you are. You messed up by covering it. Mold doesn’t survive in sunlight. You need to get an ozone generator off amazon and run it in the car for a couple days in the sunlight. This will literally chemically sterilize your car. Then clean it as well as you can. A new battery, fresh oil, etc, and you’re good to go. Less than $200. Not sure what you were expecting her to do. You apparently have no idea what is entailed in having an automobile left sitting for a year. You needed to put stabilizer in the gas tank, or someone had to drive it weekly. There’s a whole suspend routine you put a car through if you aren’t going to drive it for that long. As a dad, I would have told you to take your car with you. I’m not babysitting your stupid car like you are child. You have a job somewhere in another city? Drive there. Or sell it.
You didn’t say how long you were away. I don’t think leaving for 4 or more years (probably like 5-6 for the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this looks of it) was a good idea, you should have sold it even if you didn’t need the money. This can be cleaned, PROFESSIONALLY. It will be a lil bit of change but it can be done with steam and steam extraction I believe. I just got mine professionally steam cleaned because of mold. I live in the delta and it’s so humid here that when my sunroof leaked my poor car didn’t stand a chance. They pulled all the seats and now it’s better than it was when I bought it I think. You shouldn’t blame your mother bc you might have prepared your car for storage better, knowing it would be a while before your return. You could have had it deep cleaned, upholstery and carpet, and put several boxes of rock salt in large containers inside to absorb humidity. It’s a pretty common practice for RV’s, and there are other moisture absorbing products, as well.
You could have kept up with your mom in your absence, reminded her… Hm? She isn’t using the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this thing daily, clearly. When you go to the slammer for 8 months, you can’t expect everything to be as it was before you were booked. Just sayin Like, cars sit for long ass periods of time and they don’t mold. Cars sit in Texas. Arizona. Florida. And don’t mold up. What did you expect your mother to do? Charge your battery every week and ventilate your car every morning? If you knew humidity was going to be an issue, you should have prepared and put moisture absorbers in the car. Mold needs food and when that kind of mold flashes through the car on that level it’s almost always caused by a layer of film leftover by cigarette smoke. Someone smoked cigarettes in the car but the mold never spread because you rolled the windows down enough to constantly keep the humidity at an acceptable level. As soon as a time period occurred where the humidity built up it allowed the mold to spread across the film left by the cigarette smoke. A few cigarettes won’t do it. It usually takes someone who has a cigarette smoking lifestyle to accumulate that kind of film. You can’t see the film. It doesn’t come up with water. It usually takes an alcohol based solvent to get up and it leaves a brownish yellow stain on the towel you use. Since it was deposited by smoke it also penetrates the fabric, cushion material, and carpet fibers.
Man, i feel like OP is receiving some completely unwarranted flame. As someone who lives in a very humid region, i believe OP 100% Especially with older cars, if they arent run or aired out, humid environments will do this (they aren’t air-tight after all) even a little bit of a leak, plus the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this warmer days of the year has essentially turned your car into a terrarium. As some others have said, start with an ozone machine (dehumidifier is okay but not as effective). Suit and mask up, and you will be able to get the vast majority of it out with a vacuum and some microfibre cloths. Make sure you basically never leave it without some method of absorbing moisture throughout the process. There are lots of fabric safe mould sprays out there, use with an upholstery brush to get into every crack. If the seats are fabric, you can hire upholstery extraction vacuums, but keep in mind that this will temporarily add moisture, so only really do this if you have the time and resources to fully dry it out after. Im sorry this happened to your baby, had it happen to my first car too when i went through a major depressive episode (only 4 months and was maybe 15-25% not as bad)
If people listened to reddit when it came to cutting off contact with friends and family, nobody would have any family or friends left to cut off. That’s really awful to come back to, I’m sorry. I was recently a digital nomad for 2.5 years and I came back to a dead battery, cracked windshield and needing brakes. But the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this mold is worse. I hope you can get it taken care of of for your health our mom pretty much neglected your car over the course of a year, I hope for your sake you remind her of this event every chance you get until she’s in her grave. I’m kind of at a loss as to what could be done. She let you park your car for free at her place while you were on your year long adventure. Did you expect her to run the car every two weeks for 20 min and top it off with gas? Or drain the fluids, pull the battery, put it up on blocks? I think the lesson here is to not do shit that lands you ‘away temporarily’ and expect your parents to take care of your stuff. Driving it to run errands once or twice a month probably would have avoided this. Whatever OP’s original error, it is reasonable to be irritated by the lack of consideration or courtesy when someone says they’ll take care of something valuable and doesn’t. Refusing to store it was an option that Mom declined to take when it would have been better for everyone if she had. Open the window twice and start it twice, which would have been all that was needed…. but it’s not like it’s a big deal to replace the battery and get it cleaned.
They moved away for a better paying job. They were going to pay to have it stored somewhere, but their mother literally begged to have them store it with her instead. All the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this mother had to do was run it on occasion and not let it get swampy inside. Just airing it out on occasion would have prevented the mold. I bought a car with an interior like this from a friend that had been sitting for a while. A lot of vacuuming and some scrubbing, but this can be taken care of in a day. I was gone for a summer abroad in college, and my mother smoked cigarettes in my car even though I specifically asked her not to. “Unstoppable 2005 Corolla”….I may or MAY NOT have brought back a rental 2023 Corolla with its transmission in limp mode, to test out that famous “Toyota Realiability” people speak of. As it turns out, if you drive approximately 55 MPH and AcCiDeNtAlLy move the shifter to Park, the transmission teeth/gears will grind LOUDLY, while the car slowly coasts to a stop.
247 more repliesDuring your absence did you inquire about the I Blasted Through 100 Days of School Space 100 Days Smarter T-Shirt in other words I will buy this status of your vehicle? Did you mom just make shit up? The only time I’ve ever seen mold like this in a car (and it was half as bad as yours) was when my aunts car was found after she died. It had been sitting in her garage for about 5-7 years. If it’s an asset that I care for, I would definitely keep my tabs on it. In fact that’s what I do. I call and check if it has been started occasionally, if it’s got some new fuel and run about, checked the tire pressure and maybe even an oil change (depending on the time I’m away). Its heartbreaking to see a car that you’ve had for ages being like this. I’m so sorry this happened! My car recently died of mold too, a Subaru. I suspected it had a leak because it would sometimes feel a little damp inside after it rained, but my car guy couldn’t find anything (I was also dealing with horrible chronic pain and getting treatment for that, so I felt I’d exhausted my resources on the possible leak front). I had back surgery and couldn’t drive for awhile, and when I was cleared to drive again I opened my car to discover so much mold. It wasn’t as bad as this, but definitely visible and vast and on every surface. I called my insurance and filed a claim, they sent someone out who declared it totaled. Luckily I have good insurance and they paid out more than I had paid for the car 3.5 years prior (about $1k more, thanks to the terrible state of current used car prices vs 2020). Have you tried filing a claim with your insurance to see if there’s anything they can do about it? I actually ended up getting a Corolla after it was all said and done lol
