It’s mad, even the I Am Old For Good Reason 1977 skull wing shirt In addition,I will do this military aren’t supposed to shoot first unless they actually see a gun pointed at them. And they’re literally in a war zone. But cops are just hanging out in suburbia shooting kids on their doorsteps who are absolutely no threat to them. Honestly SWAT isn’t better, they’re just better trained for violence. Usually they’re regular officers with additional weapons training and for team/breaching tactics. They don’t usually get de-escalation training. There is a culture problem in US police forces in general. The shoot first, ask questions later mentality gets a lot of people killed. It’s a tough subject because I’m sure that mentality has saved police lives too. But honestly, there was no reason for this guy to die simply because he walked out his front door. I hesitate to blame Officer Rapp entirely for this. He’s part of an overall culture that encourages and even trains for the response he took. That’s the real problem.

It’s the I Am Old For Good Reason 1977 skull wing shirt In addition,I will do this culture that is the real problem because it encourages decision making that encourages violence over de-escalation… and even thuggish behavior by individual officers. This is what I don’t get. I come from a police family, I don’t hate cops by any means, but we’re always told how they’re heroes who put their lives on the line for us. But then when it comes to situations like this, all the burden of the situation is put on the civilian. If they don’t act perfectly, the cop gets to kill them because they “fear for their life”. Its a fucked up dynamic and it needs to change. Why are the trained, paid professionals the ones who get to panic? Part of the job is that police are the ones burdened with de-escalation. Yeah, it’s risky, but it’s the job.
