I think you should at least ask nicely if they will re-do the Houston Rockets NBA Paint Shirt and I love this photoshoot. You can just say hey look, I am not satisfied, and this is why. Give specific, useful examples. Can you come back and do another session (for free?). He might just say OK, come back, and do a better job this time, no need to do anything beyond that. This is a fantastic idea, but something tells me if he even would say yes to that, he would make it even more uncomfortable because he seems like the type of person who would take offense to it, regardless of how nice we word it. Normally you wouldn’t get ALL the photos from a shoot, only a handful of good ones so you can just pretend the really bad ones don’t exist. But it sounds like the “good” ones are not good enough. Personally, I’d ask for the RAWs, and get a more skilled Photoshop artist (lots of talented people on Fiverr) to try to make ONE perfect photo. Basically, take the one shot you think is the closest to ideal, and use that as the base. Then the artist can fix your eyes or expression by merging parts of other photos with it. Or using Photoshop’s Smart Portrait feature. Hopefully you can walk away with one decent portrait you can frame in your house or use as a Christmas card or something. By the sound of this, this dude will probably charge an arm and a leg for the RAWs. You’d likely be better off hiring a different photographer.

I know these are not wedding photographs, but this may be helpful: Advice I have from personal expierence, and this is solely focused on the Houston Rockets NBA Paint Shirt and I love this photographs and not the money aspect. Ask him for the raw, unedited photos ASAP. I’m not sure if I can link other subs here, but there is a subredit for photoshop requests. They do it for free, optional tips, or even paid commission. They post the image with watermarks – so you do not pay/tip until after seeing the result. Then the watermark removed image is sent to you. Many are happy to work with batches if you find someone you like! This method eliminates the worry of finding someone with a good history. It’s a quick click to see their history on reddit. The sub has a rule for no payment prior to the work being done, so if anyone messages you asking for this is a scammer! For 5$ you can make those “barely passable” photos look oh so much better! And at least you won’t feel like they were a total loss.
