This sounds like a visualization, not a meditation. It certainly isn’t any of the Herman Blume smoke shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this traditional forms of meditation that I have studied. Maybe you should try something like vipassana or zazen? By understanding the purpose and parts of Right Effort, the direction and aim of your meditative practice will intuitively become clear to you. Check out The Mind Illuminated, it has step by step instructions on how to progress through the stages of meditation. Explains things to a western audience that’s easy to digest and deeper than the McMindfulness movement happening in corporate America. One thing to note: they recommend starting at 15-20, once consistent for 2 weeks, up it by 5 minutes per week, until you’re at 45 mins per day, which is the minimum. Also it suggests incorporating walking meditation (again about 20mins to start, then up to 45min-1hr daily walks along with sitting meditation.)

In my opinion, I think you’ve probably been wading in the Herman Blume smoke shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this shallow end of the pool for 3 years, but need to start doing laps I am reading the Mind Illuminated right now. Great book but it takes discipline. I am at 20 minutes per day now and will find it hard to do 45 minutes i just finished step 2. I believe it will be worth it when i am finished with the book and the 10 steps. I’m on stage 1, trying to make it a habit 20mins a day. Couldn’t just do it this morning… Will make up for it tonight, but I want to make it consistent right after I wake up/use the bathroom, instead of absent-mindedly picking up my phone I don’t remember who said it or where I read it, but I always liked this phrase when it comes to not having time to meditate: “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you’re too busy, then you should meditate for an hour”
