Retired airline pilot. I hated chatty pilots. I was a MD-88/90 captain for the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this last 15 or so years. No screens or anything but what I would do is talk to them briefly at the gate before pushback so I knew they had a good chance of hearing me. I’d tell them any important stuff and I would always tell them I was NOT going to bother them enroute unless something came up like having to turn the seatbelt sign on for rough air or anything unusual. If I did have to make an enroute PA I would call the FAs and ask if they could hear me. Some guys loved to hear themselves talk though. Tbh I hear the announcements better with noise cancelling headphones on. They cut out all the engine and ambient noise but the voice is somehow still audible.
He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt: Express with Style
I’ve seen a video of a pilot answering this question. Basically it is very loud in the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this cockpit so the mic is set on low sensitivity, so they basically have to eat the mic for it to pick up anything. If you put a microphone right at your lips you’ll sound like a pilot. Also the headset quality often is apparently rather poor. two main things, the first is that an airplane is a contained space of hard material, which easily bounces Soundwaves back and forth. so even with people talking in whispers, shuffling their bags, as such, it can still create a rather loud background noise. the second is that what they’re saying isn’t really that important. they know this, and so does the airline. so why bother spending, say, $5000 on a good PA system when a $2000 one is functional? Finally, the pilots aren’t selected because of their ability to enunciate. many announcements sound blurred together because the pilot is speeking fast with little enunciation. and they do this because speaking to the passengers is simply a tradition and formality.
Boeing and Airbus are responsible for the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this coms systems. What the fuck do you expect, like they’d suddenly become competent? It’s probably not OP’s problem, but all pilots are required to speak in English to international air traffic control, and it seems that they often only learned a few necessary words and are not really understandable. I really don’t have this problem and my hearing isn’t even very good. Was just on a flight Friday and the announcements were clear as a bell (although the pilot accidentally gave us the Palm Beach temperature rather than the NYC temperature, which was disappointing). A lot of trains, especially older ones, have this problem too and I’d say it’s worse than on planes, especially since the train lines like this often have poor signage along the platforms and lack monitors showing where you’ve stopped. When you can’t see one of the two or three signs along the platform or make out the garbled announcement, it’s a problem.

Costs, nobody giving a shit in terms of numbers (switching to airlines/paying more for better pilot chatter) and the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this pilots are not (and there’s no need for them to be) radio hosts with training on vocalization and voice projection via microphone. I do like to listen to the instructions and procedures in case we crash and survive… But tbh I’d rather listen to my music or whatever shitty movie they’re displaying and ask the flight attendant later than try to play comm officer deciphering the enemy radio chatter. My SIL is a commercial pilot. He went and bought a top of the range headset that is made for Airbus, better mic, and a noise canceling feature. So yes, std Airbus headsets are shite You mean those airplanes that still have ash trays? Even though we are not allowed anymore to smoke for the last 30 years or so? Weird.
Because they’re still trying to figure out how to keep the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this doors from blowing off, then they’ll investigate the intercom. Do you have any high frequency or low frequency hearing loss? I have never really had any trouble, not like public transit trains, where the speakers are paid for by as little tax money as they can get away with. The pilot is wearing a headset. The microphone on the headset is designed to cancel noise in much louder aircraft. The microphone is designed to communicate to the copilot and to air traffic control, the latter over a bandwidth-constrained FM link. Copilot and ATC are both wearing headsets for optimum listening clarity. If you’ve ever talked over a landline, you’ll recall they were a bit tinny- bandwidth was low, so they omitted everything below 300 or above 3000 hertz. Same thing here. Now, when the pilot chooses to communicate with the cabin, they are using the same microphone. They could pull out a separate high-definition microphone specifically for the cabin, but why bother? The flight attendants have got better microphones for the actual important stuff like the safety briefing.
I think they deliberately don’t turn the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this sound up very high on the PA system. I was on a flight recently where they announced someone was allergic to nuts and not to eat them, and for that announcement they cranked the sound up really loud and it was really clear. I just had a flight. With my earbuds in, I could hear the pilot pretty clearly. Without them, all I could hear was the plane. Just too much noise from the plane itself, I think, it overwhelms the ears. Remember that an airplane is about 5 million individual parts flying in loose formation, all provided by the lowest bidder. Airlines cut money where they can. A PA system, while nice to have, is much less important than say the back-up hydraulic pump.
It’s also a case of diminishing returns. Yes you could install a high-priced super-duper PA system…and it would still sound like crap trying to compete with all the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this other ambient sounds on a passenger aircraft. Idea: transcribe that shit onto everyone’s screen in real-time. Auto transcription is really not that hard these days and should be pretty easy to get onto the screens. Although, that might break the security barrier between the communications array and the entertainment system. But there must be a one-way analogue they could wire from the comms to the entertainment safely. I mean. It already sends a “pause for announcement” signal somehow, I assume safely. Hell, do it in whatever language the user has selected on the screen when they sat down too. Airline native language above, then user-language below. Not to be funny but I guarantee you will understand if the pilot ever comes on the loud speaker and quickly says, “Braceforimpact!”
Maybe it has something to do with how we expect it to sound. Perhaps airlines have done tests and passengers find it alarming when it’s crystal clear? “Good evening passengers”, the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this pilot says, interrupting my movie or waking me from my nap, “Just a flight update, we’re currently at 600 feet heading north nort west at 800 km/h and we’ve just entered Babloogobia, it’s about 30 degrees outside.” That’s my cue to march right up to that cockpit, hammer on the door, and yell at you to take us down to 550 feet and keep it under 700, because I have something to do with ANY of that shit. Pilots are skilled at flying planes. They aren’t skilled sound techs or performers. They really don’t care about things like holding the mic at the correct angles or good distances or any of the other things that you need to do to get good sound quality into the mic.
It’s just silly that airlines want the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this pilots to do performances rather than having a flight attendant with performance training. I have always thought that an informational display in a central area would be more useful because of the noise factor (not to mention, lots of people wear some sort of ear covering/insert while flying). But your also moving and vibrating in a tin can going hundreds of miles an hour at 30,000 feet. Sound works very differently on planes. Vibrations cause and affect sound, which there is a lot of on planes Like when you go to a restaurant, is the only options the cheapest item or the most expensive one? If you do order an expensive dish, do you need all the extra add-ons too?
Updates to things in the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this back of the cabin that connect to the cockpit are very, very, very rare due to security and safety concerns needing to recertify things. Things that have electricity in the main cabin are physically isolated from the parts that fly the plane. That doesn’t work on an intercom. That commercial airplane was probably designed in the eighties, possibly as a redesign from even before. Every part is locked in as originally designed and certified, manufactured in small runs by a select list of certified suppliers, and costs 10-100 times more than what you’d think 🙂 If you are watching a movie or whatever it’s pretty clear. But ultimately to me it’s pretty binary — either the plane is crashing or everything is fine. It is a form of control intended to keep you docile — imagine, the plane is in a downward spiral with all hope lost … and you’ll be oblivious to your impending death as you’re preoccupied trying to figure out what the pilot said
Honestly, I never had an issue hearing the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this pilot. Kinda assumed it was an issue in the earlier days of flying which just became ingrained as a joke so I’ll a little confused by the question. Old tech and sound travel weird in planes. Plus, flying > clear speaking for pilots. Crazy how expensive planes skimp on mics. Depends on the airline, but most pilots buy their own headsets. A cheap FAA certified pair is about $150. A decent pair is $500. The Bose A20 is $1100, with excellent noise cancelling, and can overcome the drone of the engines. Which degrade the audio of any other source by destroying any attempt at audio leveling and frequency masking. i think some pilots dont care to enunciate . every flight ive heard the pilot and wasnt flying any fancy airline
I know that there are plenty of reasons for them to sound the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this way that they do, but I still can’t help thinking some pilots intentionally do a weird voice just to mess with people. As someone who studied audio / music technology stuff – I would imagine pilots wear headsets to announce and obviously pilot a plane. The chances of pilots wearing their mic too close to their mouth, speak way too loudly thus clipping the audio, or not positioning their directional mic correctly thus the mic can’t capture the right audio signal…etc can easily cause their speech hard to understand. And don’t forget accents and lack of seeing their mouth move also contribute to harder to understand speech. Some airlines have the PA audio routed to the entertainment display’s audio output (headphones). Through those, I can understand what the pilot is saying. I think before a pilot is even allowed to use the microphone, they have to log 500 hours of working a drive through microphone, and 1000 hours of “the speech” you hear before the roller coaster starts moving.
Little known fact that Captain Sully, before the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this Miracle on the Hudson landing, he set the record for longest “uhhhh” in pre-flight announcements of 34 seconds at TUL (Tulsa International Airport) I feel like they have only 3 speakers for the whole airplane and they aren’t the strongest. Even during a quiet flight I would struggle to properly understand the pilot if my seat was far from the speakers. View more commentsTapping on a touch screen doesn’t require to much skills. The ai will do all the heavy lifting, humans will only need to tap on pictures of things they need. Only the ones who really want to do something with their life will make the effort to learn more, the others will just tap pictures. For manual labor you don’t need to read, write math. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but i think that the time of schools, universal access to education is over. It was nice while it lasted, but the technology is so advanced that it can replace most of the low end office jobs, there are a lot of videos from which you can learn to do stuff, so yeah, schools will become obsolete. The empire is crumbling, so either more corporate control or a variety of communities in American balkanization.
Is it possible (have done no research) that both parents are working and this is also affecting this issue of education? The consequences… Trump wins the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this presidency. The is the result of an uneducated populace, incapable of analytical thought. I dunno, but maybe we can initiate some sort of culture of lifelong learning to compensate, and classes where parents review the same content the kids are learning. It’ll cost a ton but might be unavoidable. Ya know, when I was in high school and first saw the movie Idiocracy I didn’t see it as a funny comedy, I saw it as a horror movie slowly coming true. The more time passes by, the more I can see that level of ignorance in reality. Crime, incarceration, OD, death, jail, institutions. My school is getting them ready by having the school be like a jail or institution, no windows. On the one hand, I’m deeply concerned. On the other, I don’t think this is significantly different than 75 or 100 years ago in this country. Look was enjoyed by the privileged few . The uneducated masses will be told foreigners are untrustworthy. They will be lied to about skin colors origins, stoking fires of racism. They will withdraw from alliances and enact fascism. They will take advantage of any world events (war, famine, natural disasters, pandemics) to their end goal. My guess will be Christofascism. Non Christians will be targeted, hunted and eliminated or put in labor camps. People of color and people of non-white European ancestry will also be forced out of the country or forced to labor as slaves.
It’s my belief that the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this left lacks the willpower to truly fight for their rights often because they are educated enough to want to avoid violence. They do everything in their power to let the system we put in place do the right things, even when it so often fails to. We saw this with Germany in the 1930s too. Very wise and trusting men who hated Hitler trusted in the laws, institutions and government to do what was right – they couldn’t foresee the ambitions of Hitler. I fear we’re in that phase now… we don’t fully see Republican vision, even though they say these horrible things, we trust the institutions to protect our rights. At some point, those institutions will fail us when the population becomes so dumb they’ll vote in whatever initiative has the most advertising. Idiocracy combined with fascism. Idiots often make great soldiers.
The laws have been slowly eroding away, then one day they’ll all fall. A population that only consumes what they’re told (See: Russia, with some citizen exceptions) will quickly resort to violence – that’s the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this day… the republicans are slowly building towards. It’s generational, but in one or two generations they’ll see the vision through… An autocratic/christofascist government. Can you imagine… these kids are going to be taking care of the old folks in nursing homes, future doctors, future anything while we are in our 80s, 90s+. So I’m not a teacher, and not even subbed to this thread. I think the algorithm put you guys in my feed when I started leaning a language and talking with other students of languages via Reddit. That’s 2 years now… so boy, have I become acquainted to this subreddit. When we are in the hospital for an emergency. The doctors will be using quizlet to look up the answer. Hopefully we won’t bleed out while waiting for them to google the answer.
It’ll probably be kind of like how the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this Romans ended, people just didn’t know how to do the things that actually have to get done anymore so when important things break they won’t get fixed social fabric decay and institutional memory loss. Effectively there is no more glue (institutions and consensus) to establish a baseline set of morals and values most people can trust others will follow. Social currency increasingly becomes “attention” and “reaction”, which have zero pressure to be moral in anyway. People increasingly isolate themselves, have less friends, consume more content, and human relationships become increasingly transactional and lacking empathy. woo hoo! The end goal is feudalism. Sure, there won’t be medicine or electricity or clean water, but some people will live like kings! The intended outcome is a less intelligent population more easily duped by Christofascists. Basically, think Alabama as a model for the country.
People scorning science … people refusing to take medications or participate in herd immunity… people being easily brainwashed by seemingly innocuous sources like cable “news”… oh wait We are living on borrowed time anyway. Going to be a hell of a next 20-30 years. I will be shocked if education is even remotely the He’ll Be Back Trump 2024 Ribbon Sunglasses American Flag shirt moreover I will buy this same. Heck the world is going to be so screwed by then. You see them now. We have few engineers and scientists that were raised here. The average voter is strugglingly gullible and barely literate. People who have never bothered to read the Bible quote it as fact. The ignorance is intense as hell. When will you start kicking out the kids that are problems instead of making excuses for them? Would solve a lot of issues rather quickly.
