In reality, right now you are both living off one income. Yours. The pessimistic side of me says that she’ll work a little longer (maybe until her student debt is paid off), but eventually quit work entirely. Why work if you are already earning enough income to support your current life? What are you going to do if she can’t find work / doesn’t earn enough / quits altogether? Does she understand that she has to work for the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this next 20-30 years solid just to keep the house? And don’t even get me started on the whole ‘bad vibes’ comment. Homes take hard work and commitment. Your mom/wife are so out of touch it’s actually insane. You’re a little insane too if your only worry is that you don’t feel like you can’t provide lol. My husband did the same thing. Reiterate the boundary and emphasize how important it is and you aren’t willing to haggle.
Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt: best trending this year
It’s not innocent, it’s manipulative and it needs to be addressed because your boundaries aren’t being respected Stick to your budget or your will lose your house in a few years. That’s the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this reality of it. They can dream, but those are just dreams. Do NOT let your mother sweet-talk you into “investing in a homestead so the whole family can live together.” That’s the vibe I got from her sending you that listing and the comment. It will end badly, especially if she thinks homesteads are “free because you grow everything yourself.” Start sending your wife job postings to make up for that difference in mortgage or ask your mother if she has some money saved up you can use for the house. What’s the point of buying a place so out of your budget that you can’t afford to furnish it and live penny to penny just to pay the mortgage and tax? We sat down together and I told her what I’d prefer, and what I’m comfortable with. We live off my earnings as all her salary goes to paying off her student loans. It was originally 525k but after discussing my it we squeezed our current spending and increased our budget to 575k. Next time she sends one for $800 tell her you love it. Have her call the broker and make an offer of your full budget. The worst they can say is no. I’m betting she won’t call two. She took out student loans to get a degree to land a job that pays her just enough to make the student loan payments?
oof that’s quite a vibe. can’t say I’d be ok with that arrangement in my marriage, but to each their own. if anything, your spending arrangement strengthens your position on house price. Have you been shopping for 3 months on that budget or haven’t started yet? I made a similar budget jump last time I moved but there was a tax difference so it was a wash. I wasn’t going to find what I wanted at my original budget. Do not depend on Zillow to be 100% truthful regarding the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this photos of a property. ALWAYS go to the property and see it for yourself. We were looking at two houses in our price range, but saw they covered up water damage with paint, we did the marble test and it rolled, and the backyard was tiny offering no privacy from neighbors. I firmly believe the issue is when you look at sites like Zillow or Redfin it gives you a monthly estimated payment of whatever they think it is. This estimated payment underestimated to draw people in based on property tax info from ~2 years ago, a rate that is lower than what yours probably will be and an estimated insurance payment that is dangerously low. Your wife is probably looking at these houses going we can afford that per month not realizing that is not what you are going to be paying.

You make what you make right now. Sorry, if she wants a more expensive house, she can try to find a job that pays more to do so. She put in her notice at work on her own so I don’t think that’s the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this case. We talk about it often, All our friends are back home, I’ve never gotten the slightest vibe that this could be the case We’re moving across country, she just told her work she’s leaving in a couple months. She has interviews lined up for the new location My advice, if you’re moving to an area with higher house prices, would be to get something smaller or a townhouse or condo, if the houses in your price range aren’t as nice as she would like. Maybe instead of trying to buy your “forever house” get something that suits your needs for now, with the plan to upgrade in 5-7 years when your family & financial situation changes? For example, would you really need four bedrooms now if you don’t have any kids yet? Do you have an agent. Part of being a good realtor is to sometimes navigate through this type of situations and help a couple to compromise on their new home. Having another set of eyes to look at homes within your budget who’s also trained to sell/convince clients to change their minds on “bad vibes” is going to help you a lot. Ultimately, instead of sending her homes online, you should take her to see a few open houses in your budget and start there. Seeing them in person is going to invite her feedback and you can at least start having a better conversation there.
Start putting the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this onus on her. “Cool, so you’ll be getting a better job to finance this property? Can’t wait!” It brings them back down to earth quickly. Not just “this is out of our budget” but “I feel a lot of pressure to provide a good life for us, and I always want to make our lives better, but I only make X. When you send me houses I could never afford to give you, the message you are giving me is that I will never be able to give you what you need, and that makes me feel like I’ve failed. Every house you send me like this drives home my failure harder. Please accept me as I am and try to be conscious of how your needs effect me.” Have you basically asked her, “hey, it’s really annoying when you keep sending me postings of properties you know we can’t afford. Why do you keep doing that?”. She owes you an explanation because if you don’t find a place you can afford, then you’re not moving. So either there’s something wrong with her mentally, in which case she should probably see a doctor, or maybe she doesn’t really want to move and is just playing dumbass games instead of being an adult and direct with you. As for your mom, I’d send her offers of like famous castles or historic estates. Like send her a picture of Buckingham Palace and be like “omg, this would be so neat to raise a family in, wouldn’t it? Only $700,000,000! What a steal!”
Second, you need to sit down with your wife and plan a budget. Many Americans fall into the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this trap of buying more than they can afford and their life is terrible because of that. Yearly vacations will be non-existent if you can’t afford them. Plan WITH her, not against her. Work together. Communicate. Just a few small things make relationships magnitudes better. How set in stone is your budget? My partner was very similar until we went to a broker and got a solid figure that we would simply never be approved for more than. It changed her outlook a bit hearing it from an “official” source. The total interest cost on the bigger mortgage versus the smaller one will be dramatic. The property taxes will also be much higher on the bigger home. Utilities too. Neighborhood dues. All of it. Respond with the most hideous affordable homea you can find. Bonus points for impractical or outright hazardous
So my advice is actually the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this opposite. I should have gone higher with less down, percentage wise. However, that was during a very favorable interest rate cycle Lol. 1.4 million is 3 times over your budget. Is there any reason why she thinks why you will need 80 acres? Be firm what your house budget is and maybe do a local realtor instead of Zillow. That’s annoying. Sign y’all up for onlyfans and explain to her there’s only one way she’s gonna get that 5th bedroom. Happiness is not wanting what you can’t have. If she keeps doing it, start sending her exotic sports car listings that are for sale. On house hunters they always seemed to pick the one that was $100k above what they said their budget was, even though the husband was a professional mime or whatever. Obviously that $575k is just for a regular house, there is always 100k wiggle room for the once in a lifetime dream home. My wife and I do this a lot, but when something out of budget comes up, we discuss what we like about that place in order to refine our understanding of what each other wants in a home. Nope this is just women for you… it’s time for reverse psychology try telling them that you changed your mine your going to stay where you are because houses back home is just to expensive Some important advice : communicate clearly and specifically to your partner that her doing this makes you feel defensive, because it comes off like your contribution is not enough .
She might be harmlessly doing the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this “wouldn’t this be nice?” Thing new homebuyers do , but then again your mother doing the exact same thing is an ominous warning about repeating cycles, and how unprocessed shit from your childhood might be showing up in the woman you chose. Signed , someone burned by a woman like this . Holy fuck, I have to stay below 150! Even that is stretching it and I’m super thankful my dad can help with down and earnest money I would be over THE MOON to get a house over 300. Tell her you can do the 500k and anything over that is on her. I have a feeling shes expecting for YOU to pay for everything? You are just going to have to ask why she keeps sending houses over your budget when you’ve already explained what you can afford. Don’t go over your budget or you will end ultimately miserable always being broke. You guys are newly married? This doesn’t sound like a good start… 2nd year. Been together for 4 total. She’s a Gem and marriage has been wonderful it’s just been this situation that’s “mildly infuriating “ haha
She should be more appreciative of you buying half mil $ house. You’re just gonna have to talk again about what you can afford. Does she work? She can always get a job to contribute? But its just for fun, and we would obviously never buy. But I loveeeee to send my husband houses that are just out of reach as a form of “maybe one day” Have you ever gone house hunting with women haha? They enjoy it. Men look at it as a task to be accomplished but every woman I met soon knows every single listing in town and is dreaming about all the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this details of each. As the man you have to keep referring back to reality but keep things fun. My ex was like this. Would always talk about and show me awesome places to travel to that were completely out of budget. Good reason why she’s my ex now
My wife and I do this but it’s more to keep track of what’s on the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this market and how prices are changing and what areas near us are viable. We have looked at properties well over our budget to see what we could expect from lower prices in the same area. It can be really sad to keep seeing beautiful properties that are out of our price range, but it’s important to keep looking. Just commenting to say there is a lot of toxic masculinity in this thread judging your wife from a situation that is just innocent in my opinion. If it bothers you THIS much you should probably be talking to her because if I came across a thread my spouse posted where everyone lambasted me – I’d be pissed and trust would be out the window. You should delete this thread.
Time to sit your wife down and ask how she plans to afford a house that’s $200k out of your price range. Make sure that conversation includes property tax increases, unplanned repairs, all the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this remodeling she claims she doesn’t need to do right away and then suddenly needs right now, and everything else you have to pay for including your unborn children. You’ll be kicking yourself in the ass for buying a house for 500k+ now cause soon when the market bubble pops and you see that your house lost massive value and you could’ve gotten a bigger nicer house for less you’ll be pissed. Just FYI. I had a limit of 300k when I purchased my home. I paid 450k after I looked at what’s offered. It is now worth over 1 million. Consider your market and neighborhood. I am like this as well and what I would want to hear is “that’s a beautiful house, not in our budget right now, but I love you sharing your dreams with me”. She’s just sharing and wanting to connect. It means she’s trust you.
They are dreamers. It’s very frustrating, but this is part of their process. Luxuriating in the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this “what could be (in another fucking universe)”. I’m married to one, and yes, it’s infuriating 🥲 Hopefully your dreamer will eventually start using her dreaming energy for planning actual home improvements when the time comes, as my husband has, and I’m very thankful for him. A few tragic color choices and lighting fixture replacements later, we have a nice home and a few good friends to entertain and visit with. God I love being single and having complete control over my own finances and time. Plus I probably get laid almost as much as my married friends at this point. Send her back a picture of a motorcycle and if she asks what it is ? Respond oh I thought we were sharing things we can’t afford How do you know your parents will actually be supportive when you have your own kids? I bet if you ask around, a lot of millennials will tell you that most boomer parents are hands off when it comes to child rearing a grandkid. Make sure you have realistic expectations… Calculate how much take home she needs to be earning so you both can afford whatever home she’s sending you and start sending her job postings that earn that much. If she needs extra qualifications that are required for the job, look up how much time and money is required to earn that degree (or certification) and send those as well. Sounds like both your wife and mother should get their asses to work and save up some cheddar if they want those houses
Why tf are you supporting Zillow, an absolute scum-of-the-earth company that are a large part of the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this reason those houses are out of your budget? We decide on airbnb budget together, and then every listing my other half sends me after is almost surely guaranteed to be above our agreed upon amount. My wife used to send me realestate postings for houses we can’t afford – after I while I learned a trick which was to make a comment and offer a question such as ‘I like that bathroom, we can reno the new place to look like that. What do you think?’. A convo would ensue about the bathroom or the kitchen or whatever – but after writing ‘we can renovate XYZ…’. About a month in, she stopped sending me houses we couldn’t afford, switching to ones we can and it was a positive experience for us both. We’re on the same page about what we are going to uplift the property we bought, to.
I would find that terribly disrespectful and frustrating. Is it done to make you feel bad about your income? Or are you a dual-income family? If you haven’t already, try to start an open an honest conversation about what seems like a realistic budget with your partner and the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this explain why, so you’re both on the same page (really dig into the “why” behind id needed). If absolutely necessary, let that trickle down to other family members by word or mouth or very directly if that’s what it takes … “Yes! This would be a great place to start our family if money was not a factor, but [insert reason/valuation/location] is more reasonable because of [insert reason … If you even care to; it’s your life, you owe nothing to anyone even if it seems like you do]
I’d stop looking. If they’re just gonna treat this like some kind of joke, any effort you put in is just going to go to waste(such as by brushing off your suggestions with “bad vibes”). It sounds like you’re the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this only responsible adult in the room. Pay them no mind. Stay within your budget. I wouldn’t even respond to the messages at all. They will get the picture eventually, or you will stop caring. Win win! You both need to do the math and set a realistic budget of what you can afford, then look at houses. Don’t forget taxes and maintenance. Look forward at how much a child will cost you, diapers and formula ain’t cheap and as that kid grows so do the expenses. You have to factor in the cost of childcare, family provided childcare is awesome until they can’t do it. Does she work? Does she want to continue to work when a baby comes? If so, who stays home when the kid when it’s sick? What if she doesn’t want to work?
Yes she works, if she didn’t have the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this student loans to pay off we theoretically could increase the budget closer to what it looks like she wants and I’m kind of curious if she’s looking at it that way but I haven’t asked her that question yet. Her entire paycheck going toward student loans made me gasp. I’m assuming these are private loans that are ineligible for forgiveness? And will she find more gainful employment when you move back? I don’t think student loans can be forgiven? I know Biden is trying to do something with it but it’s been shot down before so she’s not wanting to bank on politics to get her out of it. She has several interviews for jobs lined up and she’s pretty excited about all of them so I’m hoping one of them works out for her It sounds like what you need is a frank conversation. My wife and I had similar disagreements when we were house shopping, although not as drastic a difference. I wanted to stick to below $280k, she liked the $320k+ homes a more. We ended up meeting in the middle at $300k, and ended up buying a house for $292k that was listed at $299k.
The difference is we could have been approved for $600k at the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this time, we just wanted to keep our costs down so we could save more. My question – what are you approved to purchase? If it’s ~$575k, then that’s an easy way to shut down the conversation. Just say yeah you also really like that house, but the bank would never approve you. If you’re approved for $800k, then you need to have a discussion about priorities with your wife – does she want a nicer house, or does she want to save for kids college, go on vacations, or whatever else she values? She’s not in the position god bless her lol. I had dreams when I was in high school of making tons of money and buying her and my father a ranch they could retire on. Then I got into the work force and made good money but damn life is expensive. So it’s a pipe bomb dream for now
Share the Grinch Santa If You Don’T Like Wisconsin Badgers Merry Kissmyass 2024 Shirt What’s more,I will buy this estimated annual tax on the purchase price. In my city that puts you around 20k for an 800k home. It’s easily divisible to be compared against income My husband gives me crap for still looking on Zillow even after we’ve signed a contract on new construction (that is within our budget). I still like looking at houses even though I know what we will be getting later this year. But it is annoying when one person is only sending things that are clearly over budget at a time you should be seriously looking for the right house to buy. It’s not bad to see houses a bit over budget. You might be able to get that price to come down to make it work. I have a feeling your wife is looking at the difference between $500,000 and $800,000 the same way she’s looking at $500 and $800. She needs a wake up call, or else you’re going to be living in a nice house you’re not actually able to afford every month. If it makes you feel any better, the past two moves I have made I have bought a home in a part of town that was unexpected when the home search began. In both cases, my spouse an I have said we wish we went straight for this neighborhood. Hope the same for you. When we were looking in 2021 we set a hard cap at 500 we ended up buying at 640, that’s just how it is nowadays. What does she mean when she says “bad vibes” because that’s incredibly vague and sounds like some sort of dog whistle. Does she feel like you’ll be in a “bad area” or that there’s industrial parks near by or lots of foot traffic? Does she just want to live an Instagram fantasy of a huge empty home that she can show of online to strangers? It’s not like you’re looking at hotels with boarded windows at nearly 600K budget.
