I don’t see this as a West problem. There are quite a few countries “outside the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this west” where tourists are hassled extensively (Egypt, Cambodia) and some countries where personal space bubbles are smaller or non-existent (India, Brazil). Poor friend, too. Travel tends to make visible a lot of qualities in a good friend that are always mandatory but easier to ignore at home. An inability to take perspective and understand the way your actions impacted another person isn’t a skill limited to travel (not that you said it was) When visiting the Metropolitan museum in NYC she went extremely close to the paintings, almost touching them with her nose. I pointed this out to her but she refused to step any further. Luckily one of the guards noticed how close she came to a painting of Monet and told her to back up. Another example can be found in her refusing to stand on the right side of the escalators in the new york metro, even after i told her this was common courtesy as to make it easier for the people who were in a hurry. When visiting Mount Vernon, “George Washington’s residence”, she climbed onto the slave memorial built for the slaves owned by Washington to get a “better picture” of the surroundings. I’d say that not knowing norms like not getting close to paintings or climbing things would still be on the side of being an idiot, but ignoring your “close friend” trying to help you be better adjusted is when it crosses over to asshole territory. Everyone can make ignorant mistakes, but to then refuse when corrected is an active problem.

Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt: A Unique and Creative Design

I have friends I will not travel with. I suggest you put her on your personal travel ban list. Doesn’t mean you can’t be friends if you want. Just never ever travel with her again. She sounds like an asshole. judging that yall have travelled to other countries without any issues, seems like the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this friendship dynamics have changed or she is holding some grudge against u for her to act like that. Otherwise, perhaps she was already like that for the previous trips but it’s only now that u took note and reacted it. My suggestion is take note and avoid travelling with her in future. (Since she is not a compatible travelling partner w u) This is probably your answer. She was a jerk, repeatedly. It’s not necessarily the end of your friendship, but your orbits got more distant. Also, the fact that you’re in a guy and gal relationship and aren’t romantically involved says something. You’ll have to figure out what, but it may have been her way (subconsciously) of telling you it will never be serious to her. And if I’m wrong and the two of you were a thing, then she’s a blue-ribbon asshole, because she would have insisted you be part of it. Unless, and this is out there, but there’s a tiny chance she was afraid you might see the other girl as competition and found a way to keep you guys apart until the friend had to go. I don’t necessarily think we need to make conclusions based on their lack of romantic involvement with each other. We don’t know anything about these people or their sexualities/romantic history. It’s also possible for heterosexual men and women to have platonic friendships without the specter of a romantic relationship hanging over them. Never give anybody else control over your things when traveling with them. You should have had separate lockers then you could have just left her there and gone on, and met up again later at your hotel. And always have a backup plan for if you get separated from your traveling companion.
when i was about 19 i went to Australia on a trip with a friend, she borrowed money off me, granted not much but made no gesture to pay it back. We went to buy groceries and she disappeared before we could split amongst us, same with the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this taxis she was constantly looking at her watch on our day tours as she wanted to get back to the hotel so some guy she met online could call (days before you could take cell phones everywhere overseas). We all arranged to go dancing one night but again she had to stay back for this bootie call Yea I had to end 2 friendships with long term “friends” after a trip overseas. Cant be arsed to explain in detail but basically I felt very ostracized and 3rd wheely most of the trip. I was paying for myself while they had money from family to spend and were not very understanding of my budget. I found out later from a friend I made while on the trip all they were doing was talking shit about me behind my back while I was on a date with a guy I met in one of the cities we visited. Like very mean vitriolic shit talking. This new friend told me they were confused with why I was even traveling with these “friends” because of how much they clearly didn’t like or want me around..did they ever say to my face they were upset or not happy with me? No…

About this Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt

Everything prior to getting to Washington DC— yes she sounds infuriating. But I would look at it this way— there’s only so much within your realm of control. If she wants to lack self-awareness and courtesy for others, let her. It’s only going to stress you out more trying to change what seem to be very innate behaviors of hers. Had the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this trip ended here, I would say you now can make the decision if this is someone you’d like to travel with again in the future. If not, that’s okay. You can still be their friend. Washington DC— At this point, this person doesn’t seem like a very good friend in general. Complete disregard of your time and feelings. Sorry that you had to experience this. I’d probably react the same way.
You can choose to spend your time, money, vacations with anyone you want. It sounds like you didn’t have a good time with that friend so why bother doing more trips with her? The not standing aside on the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this escalator is not crazy. I have to remind my family in the US not to do it. In the US, we are not organized enough for this rule to be applied so uniform that she would stick out. Much like high school, there are people in your life for defined period of time. You appreciate the good times and don’t get hung up on the bad times. I don’t think what you experienced is horrible just really odd/inconsiderate/infuriating. I don’t think you are over reacting. Time heals. That being said, life is to short not to enjoy your travel partner (unless you are married to them, then it’s worth it because divorce isn’t worth it).
The not standing aside on the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this escalator is not crazy. I have to remind my family in the US not to do it. In the US, we are not organized enough for this rule to be applied so uniform that she would stick out. Because this is absolutely an observed social practice here, and it annoys the heck out of virtually every other New Yorker I’ve discussed this with (myself included) when tourists block the flow of foot traffic because they can’t seem to figure out that everybody else who’s standing on an escalator is doing so on the right. In my experience, this is a social tradition everywhere with an underground metro. I live in NY and in my travels have rarely seen this rule not followed in any urban environment. As New Yorkers, we are just louder at yelling for people to move when they don’t observe this. Try this during rush hour in DC and you’ll think you’re in NY with people screaming “move” and calling you a “stupid tourist.”
Same in London – stand on the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this right, walk on the left. Be prepared to get told to move or pushed if you don’t follow. There’s signs literally everywhere for it. And so…do you sit there in silence or do you say something? I get annoyed also but I have enough situational awareness to realize that people are oblivious to the local social norm that lasts 45 seconds up an escalator. OP told her to move to the right as this was the custom. She didn’t need to wait to be yelled at by a local or rely on her own situational awareness to notice everyone else standing to the right as people are climbing (or descending) quickly on the left. It’s an unwritten rule that I wish was explicitly stated as a rule. I don’t assume someone’s a tourist when they don’t do it, I assume they’re from someplace with a smaller population in a larger area. It can sometimes take an hour for me to travel three miles in my city due to the crowds, so all I can think while I’m standing behind this person who won’t move is: I better not miss my train because of you…
As a former DC resident, I can guarantee that people take the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this escalator rule extremely seriously and that people who don’t abide by it definitely stick out, haha. And not only do they stick out, but ppl will yell at them or be extremely loud to get them out of the way! It is taken sooooo seriously. My favorite is when the person behind the escalefter doesn’t have the New York-style chutzpah to yell so they just passive aggressively stand REALLY close and breathe down their neck until the person notices them and moves over. I see you with escalefter (also doornacles is a good one)! I do not miss the Metro…bought myself an ebike and now ride Metro like once a year. The tourists can have it! I take the bus once in a while…people know how to behave there!
Also on the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this front of escalators, people who stop as soon as they get off of it. The ONE time I took Metro last year, I had to shove a tourist for that. “Just because you got off doesn’t mean the escalator stopped!” If I didn’t shove them out of the way, 50 people behind me were going to pile up! I’m not going to end up crushed on the bottom of a pile of bodies, so move :ahem: get out the way! Never travel with her and learn to never have someone else control your stuff. Get your own locker or get the code. Nah. Shit happens. I went on a trip with my bestie years ago…ruined our friendship. We were not on the same page at all. In fact? I never travel with friends anymore. It sounds lile most of the problems you had with her weren’t really travel problems but basic ettiquette and consideration.
From what you wrote, she seems disrespectful and maybe not the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this brightest. I also get the feeling both of you had been building up quite a bit of frustration by the third day, and unless you just didn’t mention it, you didn’t communicate or try to resolve your little conflicts. Now, I always find it hard to believe when things sound too one-sided. You sure this isn’t about something bigger between the two of you? You don’t sound unreasonable. I wouldn’t want to travel with her again if I was in your position: Some people are just not pleasant to travel with. She sounds inconsiderate and like she embarrassed you. I’m sorry your visit here to the states was stressful! I hope you enjoyed your trip overall despite the incompatibility with your travel partner.
I think your frustration was justified. I don’t know why she chose this trip to go off the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this rails and act so inconsiderately (to you, and in general around the exhibits) but since she did, I would make this trip the last trip with her. At minimum, even if you’re getting along great, I think this demonstrates why it’s a good idea to rent your own locker, and keep track of your own passport and other documents. My advice otherwise is that even when travelling with someone, it’s good to get yourself to a point where you’re comfortable doing things solo as well. With the whole debacle in the third paragraph. I simply would have sent her one text telling her that I was still going to go see everything we had planned, to find me or call me along the way if she wants to join. You shouldn’t put yourself in a position where you’re so dependent on the company of another person that you miss out on things you want to see. Never put your belongings into a locker that you don’t also know th code to. No matter how much you know and trust the person you’re with.
I’m glad you did not travel with this person to a country with more strict rules and punishments around this type of misbehavior. Your friends’ actions could have put you both in danger in a lot of other countries. It seems like you’re not great travel-partners, and you both didn’t work out or communicate some expectations or agreed-upon ground rules before you went. I woulnd’t appreciate her behavior– but I also wouldn’t take the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this charge to mind her behavior. If she’s on the wrong side of the escaltor, the DC-patrons will let her know pretty quickly (especially during rush hour– I live in DC). If she’s too close to the paintings, that’s weird, but the guards will boot her if she touches them. It’s not up to you to monitor or correct her immaturity.
You got one locker, instead of two, and left your passport in it (always have your passport on you in a foregein country). This precluded you simply leaving, and exploring on your own, which is what I would have done if she was incommunicado for longer than an agreed-upon time. It’s a very basic rule of travel/exploring–if you split up, then it’s, “I’ll meet you here (X) at (Y) time.” It doesn’t seem like you agreed to anything ahead of time and made some assumptions about how much time she would spend. Not speaking to someone you’re on travel seems childish for both of you. Either decide to work it out, or decide not to do so. It’s either, “hey let’s do this Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this differently,” or, “let’s each do our own thing.” Overall, your friend seems like a discourteous twit, but you seem a little controlling and aren’t looking at how you could have done things differently– but put it all on her.
I do think it’s a a rite of passage to get frustrated with your friends or even get into a fight when you’re backpacking. Don’t be too hard on yourself for choosing the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this wrong companion, only one way you couldn’t found out and now you know how to weed out the wrong people for your next trip 🙂 It’s clear to me your companion suffers from STS aka Selfish Traveler Syndrome. It’s easily treatable and basically never travel with her again. I got in an argument with a friend when traveling overseas because she ran to get a snack with another friend and didn’t tell me … We had no phone service and didn’t have a clue what direction they even ran in because I was buying tickets for something. After expressing my frustration it was awkward for the rest of the day but we both apologized and got over it. I think it can be a learning experience for everyone on what people do or do not realize is rude/rationale/etc. when traveling and especially in a foreign country. And hopefully you’d be able to have a conversation about it and resolve things.
Super unsurprising that a person from Belgium was insensitive about race. I met so many flat out racist people in Belgium. I’d ditch her. Yeah anyone who leaves their travel mate with jo communication in a foreign country is an asshole. What the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this fuck? That’s just unsafe. I think people are being way too kind here. This is not a friend at all. I would end the relationship, unless she takes responsibility for her actions and apologizes profusely. As a DC native I appreciate your attempt to keep her standing on the right of escalators. It’s a very common problem from tourists. Making light of artifacts and monuments related to slavery is deeply gross. I can’t think of something as classless to do as a guest in the United States. Once you realized she wasn’t Replying I would have just gone to do something else to the extent poss without locker content. Also you should have figured out exactly when to meet up again and so on. So for the last day debacle I’d say you’re partially to blame. Sounds justified to me. Some people just shouldn’t travel together. I wouldn’t suggest you have to dump her as a friend or anything as long as you still enjoy each others company in sporadic small doses, but just don’t travel with her again. I have friends like that. Love them dearly, but we just don’t gel when we travel, and that’s okay. I’ve also been that for a couple of people who get annoyed by how unfocused I am when I travel, even if it in no way stops them doing what they want. My lack of strong desires and willingness to just go with whatever they want or just let them go do stuff alone can be annoying to some. Others find it refreshing and call me ‘easygoing’. It’s a personality clash that sometimes only emerges when you spend every waking moment together, but isn’t a problem otherwise.
I’ll go the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this other way. I don’t think she’s innocent in all of this but I also think you’re over reacting. Even though the escalator thing is one of my biggest pet peeves, anytime. The museum thing seems more like a response to how she interpreted your “helping” her. No one was stopping you from moving on and doing those other things. I would have left my wife there, in that scenario. Much less a “friend”. I travel at my own pace that is usually very slow, especially in museums. Lol I knew this would be Belgians after you said we speak Dutch. Cuz we cross always other Belgians at weirdest places. Honestly, I wouldn’t even want to be friends anymore with someone who behaved that way, never mind traveling with them. She’s rude and inconsiderate. You didn’t get to take off because she was busy talking to someone else and had the key to your stuff. However, I put some of this on you. You’d already seen her acting awful in NYC. There is NO WAY I would have allowed her to be in control of my passport or even codes to enter a museum.
Were you more anxious than usual? I hope your trip doesn’t end your friendship. Sometimes the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this chemistry is off. Sounds to me like you constantly nagging at her for not following social conventions strictly enough made her see you as a boring buzzkill, and finally she got sick of you and found someone more fun to spend her time with. Climbing on top of some roped off slave memorial is funny? This person just made their friend aware of how to behave in certain situations to help her. Glad he went with her to the us of a and not some country where her nitwit behavior could cause some serious problems. Also: how stupid can one be to not recognize their native language and then decide to spend hours with this other person? how stupid can one be to not recognize their native language and then decide to spend hours with this other person?
An indictment of OP. She would rather spend time with someone she barely knew, tells us all we need to know about how incredibly boring he must be. I don’t think you overreacted at all. You sound like a good travel partner. She, on the Grinch on the naughty list and I regret nothing Christmas Shirt and I will buy this other hand, sounds like an entitled, self-absorbed brat. I would reconsider travelling with her on your next sojourn. Also, always have access to your passport. You’re supposed to look at paintings close up. Obviously not touching them, though. Yeah, she sounds a bit laissez-faire with social grace, but you sound like someone who is determined to make their anxiety everyone’s problem. You encouraged her to go with her friend and who the fuck puts their passport in a museum locker? That detail alone makes me think this is AI because that is so absurd. she’s sounds like an entitled dumbass lmao. tbh i’ve seen a lot of girls walk all over their guy friends like this, i had a friend in hs who treated her guy friends like traaash. it’s hard to watch, you deserve better!
