I’ve had a similar feeling before, and it was also with a person of the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this opposite sec much older than myself getting overly close or familiar with me (they sent me a lot of gifts/presents). Although I felt they did it in good faith, I felt uncomfortable with it and let them know as well. Not weird my dad’s best friend (male) from before they got married is now one of my mums best friends over 35 years and a separation later, its an entirely platonic friendship and always has been, my mum also talks to his wife frequently also as a friend. She probably sees you as family so he views you as her family, it also wouldn’t surprise me if he just happens to be one of those folk that is extra chatty and wants everyone they meet to be their friend
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt: Unleash Your Inner Fighter
It could be that he is networking, young people are super friendly especially when it comes to text which is odd to me but hey it’s fine. I understand your feelings though, it’s kinda strange when it first happens, I would monitor it and see where it goes from there. Me and my wife texts each others friends. It’s a little weird that you don’t really know him much and he does it, but if my wife friend like sees something she thinks I would find funny she texts me it or texts me just to bullshit if she’s bored or whatever and we never found it weird. I have a similar dynamic. I’m 34F, good friend is 26 and has a fiancé who will occasionally text me. We are all outdoorsy so it’s usually a link to a mountain bike he thinks I might like or wishing a merry Christmas or something like that. I drive an EV so when he was considering a Tesla he texted me with some questions. I don’t consider him and I real friends, but we’re friendly since I am close with his fiancé. An occasional text isn’t weird if the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this content isn’t weird!
It’s weird. The fact that you are asking about this on Reddit let’s me know you sense this is odd behavior. I suggest that you monitor the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this text messages and if they do get inappropriate, definitely tell your friend. If you hung out together as a group then it wouldn’t be weird. But since you only met him twice and don’t socialize, it does seem a bit odd. Are you in some toxic religious culture where making friends with people of the opposite sex is taboo? This is super normal. This doesn’t seem inappropriate to me. Because you’re a bit older you may have more leeway in your field and he’s attempting to leverage that since you two are in the same field and you’re a mentor to his soon-to-be wife. In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with this and you may be able to leverage what the “prospect” pool of your field is discussing. Think of this as a way to bridge the gap and make headway within your departments.

Remember, you’re the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this superior here so keep it completely professional and shutdown anything that would make HR blush if they were in the same room. be welcoming to him, you’ll be helping to naturally reaffirm their relationship as they progress towards marriage, & maybe you’ll be able to add “mentor” to your resume after getting to know her fiance first On the surface it’s fine. But odd. Not quite weird but it’s unnecessary. At the risk of over thinking it seems a bit of an attempt at fiancé control and letting you know you’re of interest. If it stays at the superficial level it’s all good.iend, and she looks up to you. If you’re important to her, you’re important to him and he’d probably like to get to know you better. 2) you’re in the same field, and I’d wager probably have more experience than him. It’s always nice to get to know with people like that. 3) some people are just friendly and outgoing. IMO society has become very weird about what’s the right or wrong way to communicate. I wouldn’t be concerned unless there was an actual reason. While innocent texts can be switched up after a while if there were bad intentions to begin with, there’s no reason to assume the worst immediately if there are no red flags.
maybe he is networking. seems like the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this obvious answer to me. just ask him why he wanted your number tho idk why its a big deal to ask that lol I think it is a bit of an age gap thing. I’m 28 about to turn 29 and just a friendly person – wouldn’t do this myself exactly because I don’t want friendliness to feel creepy to anyone, and I’m super aware of that – but I do have friends who are slightly more extroverted/friendly and they def would do this without a thought. Not weird. Honestly, I don’t know how to answer this. As somebody who has always had female friends that I text, I wouldn’t think anything of adding another to that, no matter how i met them. I have in the past had conversations with friends girlfriends/wives/fiancees. Is it possible he wants to have the same mentor relationship with you that your friend has with you? Especially because you’re all in the same field. He’s just going about it in an odd way
Just friendly, probably texts her family too. I think he’s just trying to make an effort to seem significant and cement himself in her life, if there’s any agenda. If you and your husband don’t get any weird vibes from the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this texts, i’d say go with your gut. Sounds like you know how things can start innocently and change over time, so keep an eye on it. I very rarely message my wifes friends, and only when organizing something. And I can’t imagine doing it after meeting them twice. It’s probably been a couple years since I messaged one of my wifes friends directly (not in a group chat) and she has quite a close friend group and we all hang out pretty often. There’s just normally no need though – it’s not like I avoid it. Probably cause you’re a “family friend” in his mind. I think as long as it stays platonic and nothing is ever suggested, then he’s just a social guy.
Seems completely normal to me. You can be friends with anyone of any gender and age. Judge him based upon his actions and nothing else. I think the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this more interesting question is why do you think it’s strange as “a married woman”? I think remaining guarded and keeping open communication with your husband and their wife is the best move here. I mean, it makes sense to be a little guarded in case he does something inappropriate. But if the texts are innocent, he’s just trying to be friends. I’m over a decade older than you. I’m friends with girls I dated, or girls that were my friends from way back. I also sometimes directly text some of my wife’s girlfriends and they reach to me as well sometimes. So long as everything is innocent and you’re not keeping secrets, I think it’s fine. Seems like you’re close with his wife and work in his field in a more senior position? Sounds like he thinks you’re just a good person to be on friendly terms with. Unless he’s creepy I wouldn’t think too much of it.
My wife’s best friend texts me a couple of times a week. I’m also very good friends with her husband. She’s just friendly and has never been inappropriate. We usually just chat a bit and then maybe text again a few days later. It sounds like this is a similar situation. He just wants to get to know you because you’re important to her. You’re handling the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this situation perfectly already by showing or bringing up that he texted you to your husband and her. It’s good to be a little cautious in situations like this. It sounds like he wants to be friends with you because you are friends with her. Friend group. As long as she is ok with it. I sometimes text my wife’s female friends but I always include my wife on the text thread so there’s no weird feeling about anything on either side. Not only is this totally normal but it should be normalized. Finding stuff like this to be “weird” is what is driving people, specifically men, to become more alone with fewer friends. I know I personally haven’t reached out to talk to people who I thought I could be friends with because I knew that they may find it “weird” that I texted them.
Doesn’t seem that strange. To me it says that his fiancée has a very high regard and affection for you. In a way That has passed on to her fiancée and now they both look up to you. They see you as a higher figure to themselves. Her affection towards you, makes him feel safe to do the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this same. Yeah I think you would have noticed something out of the ordinary or “creepy” by this point. Or maybe he is super patient…but I think a hint would have come out by now. I can’t answer this question without seeing the actual texts. It depends on a couple of factors, but you’re correct that this may just be young people behavior. He could just be a huge loser with no friends. It could be a ton of things. I don’t think it’s weird based on what you’ve said, but once again – can’t say without reading the texts as he sent them I don’t talk to anybody too often. Maybe once a month I reach out to people just to say hi. Maybe annually for some people.
Damn, he’s reaching out being respectful and not weird in any way, is great to his SO, is respected in his field, and seems to generally be a positive influence in the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this world at large and you are STILL questioning his motives? I guess I don’t get it. Just react to what you see. If he’s merely being friendly and you consider him a friend, be friendly. If he ever even approaches a topic that makes you uncomfortable, shut it down hard and fast, be respectful but firm with your boundaries. But other than that, no this is not that weird to me, idk why it would be I guess. You are allowed to feel uncomfortable though, and if you don’t really put any stock in having any sort of friendship there (which it seems like you don’t, and that too is fine) then just say that. He is harmless. You have been married with kids so long you forgot what flirting is, haha. Kids eliminate all sex drive/appeal and you forget who you were years ago. Support their marriage, then make fun of them when they have kids
I don’t think it’s too strange as long as it doesn’t get creepy. On the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this other hand, if it makes you uncomfortable, just stop replying and he’ll get the hint. I’m in my mid 40s and text with my friends’ partners now and again. usually related to a thing we have in common like a sports team or a movie franchise we like in common. It’s ok for grown people of any gender to be friends. Not weird at all and not age related. I might question that people who do find this weird might have personal experiences or hang ups with cheating partners maybe. That I’m. O way should reflect on actual friendly adults just being friendly. OP it’s not weird for the age group of your friend and her SO however it is weird for the slightly older crowd. We did not reach out to the husband or BF of a friend separate from them. The world has changed and this seems to be ok these days. Personally it would make me slightly uncomfortable. Not for any reason other than old school norms.
Normal unless he tries to make a move. Some people just have golden retriever energy and want to be everyone’s friend. Right now it seems harmless. I wouldn’t be concerned until/unless it starts seeming less harmless. I will say though that him mentioning “don’t let her be too crazy” does throw an orange (lol) flag into the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this mix. He could genuinely just be trying to make sure you guys have fun and break the ice, but there’s also the slim possibility he’s a control freak and he wants communication with you in case he can’t reach her and/or wants someone to tell him if she ever does anything she shouldn’t be doing while with someone. I agree that it is weird. Have your husband respond to his texts as you are busy to respond. He your husband ask him to to direct his texts to him not to you. You will see the results. I would feel cautious in your situation as well, but I think you’re handling it really respectfully so far. He’s probably just being friendly, but there’s no reason to create any situations where there could be the opportunity for him to act otherwise. My practical advice is to start a group chat with the 3 of you, or better yet, introduce the husband and have everyone on a group chat. This way the fiancée can chat and get to know you and there’s no risk of anything inappropriate being said
I’m about the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this same age as this guy, and that sounds weird to me. There’s no transitive property for friendship. You’re friends with his significant other, but that doesn’t automatically make the two of you friends. If the three of you had hung out more than a couple times and you had built up a friendly rapport outside of the texting, it would still be weird but a little less so. I could see texting a friend’s significant other if he was planning a meet up and it was something logistical, or if it was specific questions you could answer because of your experience in the same field or as someone in a different stage of life, but it sounds like he’s being overly familiar. And even if it is an innocuous attempt to get to know the people that are important to his fiancee, it can still be off-putting.
It sounds weird to me but only socially. It’s weird for anyone to text you like that when you don’t really know them very well, but he sounds like he means no harm. You said that he works in the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this same field as you, and that the initial text was work/industry related – he’s probably glad to potentially have someone to chat with about work stuff that isn’t a co-worker or his fiancé, and also wants to generally get to know you better since you are an important part of his fiancé’s life. I think innocent until proven guilty probably applies here. I think he’s trying to make friends with his fiancé’s friends. I wouldn’t read into it beyond that unless the content of the messages turns significantly weirder. It’s not weird but it’s okay that you feel uncomfortable. I have a friend whose bf kept asking me to slow dance and I was uncomfortable but she was fine with it. It’s more of a boundary thing and something that you probably wouldn’t be comfortable with if your significant other did. I don’t like to get too close to my friend’s boyfriends but he seems like he wants to build a friendship with you. Just be cordial since he doesn’t seem to have alternative motives.
My partners great long-time friend and I message each other about different programmes and bands we both like. He has a gf, my bf has known him for years. It’s only weird if it is inappropriate. My bf doesn’t go online much, so sometimes his friend will message saying “show him this,” etc. Why is your gut feeling this way? As long as the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this messages are not inappropriate, it’s fine and totally normal! Nothing weird about the situation at all – intent is all that really matters. If things stay friendly, great! If he gets flirty, not great. I think you might just be old. In modern society, boys are taught to cultivate relationships with women that are significant to the SO. I think it’s possible that his SO talks about you a lot and he’s just taking an interest. Does his SO have a big family as well? I’m not guaranteeing anything. Just saying it’s possible What the hell is your problem? He just wants to get along with his fiancee’s friends. You seem like some crazy boomer who thinks everybody is trying to hit on you or something.
Unpopular opinion but this Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this is suspicious imo. Trust your gut. I don’t like that he told you “don’t let her get too crazy”.. call me paranoid but I’m afraid he’s establishing a relationship with her friends so he can monitor and control her. That or he’s attracted to you and framing it as innocent. I think if it was genuinely innocent, it would make more sense if he wanted your number after you two became friendlier, spent more time together, established a rapport.
Not with the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this criminal prosecution of miscarriages. The authorities wanted a paper trail of a girl’s menstrual cycle Un-fucking believable with these people. Fucking creeping over a young girls’ period tracker to try and charge her with murder in the event of a miscarriage. Also creepy to “make sure they’re girls and not born biologically different!” Esp when it comes to literal teenagers. I think it kinda is. We had to take physicals in California for sports in middle and high school growing up. Line up and get your nuts fondled by a nurse every season. It’s not. This was given to a parent by a school. Menstrual cycles do not impact activity. If they do, it’s not something a school should require documentation of. If someone actually cares about being in sports, they aren’t going to let their menstrual cycle stop them I had to fill out this same form to participate in school sports. I always assumed it was for the sole purpose of assuring that female athletes were not pregnant: in the case that they were injured during participation in their sport and have a stillbirth/miscarriage, the school wants to cover its metaphorical behind and ensure that they cannot be blamed for the loss of the fetus or harm to the athlete. I did find asking for the information to be invasive and inappropriate, but we live in a litigious era.
Did your school not have permission slips? That’s all we had to sign and it basically just said “if you get seriously injured we are not responsible and you can’t sue us.” Never had to tell them anything about my periods The school is not provided with the Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change shirt in contrast I will get this information. This is the physical form they must take to their doctor to get cleared. The only information they can legally share with the school is whether or not the person is medically cleared to play. That doesn’t make sense because someone could get pregnant after they fill out the form. I’m assuming the form only needs to be filled out once per season. This is the student athlete physical form that they take to their doctor. At not point is any of the information shared with the school. The school only gets the very last page that says whether or not the person was medically cleared to play sports. Asking about cycles is standard for any biological female physical.
