Exactly. The only way I’d buy anything from there is to get it on clearance. Basically like shopping at Ross or tj Maxx at that point. If you look at clothing stores that are doing very well these past few years, cheaper (Old Navy…) and discount stores (Ross, Sierra, Marshall etc) are doing grand. The shopper is seeking value. And that much is clear with fast fashion too, and Shein, Temu, and the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Additionally,I will love this like. Macy’s may be trying to tap into that market. Only thing is, people are used to getting cheap clothes that are minimally stylish, too.Idk how the mall near me is still open. The Macy’s closed years ago and then a few years later the Sears closed. Now all that’s left are some smaller stores being held up by a Kohls and JCPenny Fun story, an old mall near me raised rents and basically everyone left in a one year time span. The two stores that didn’t leave were Macys and Sears. They lasted another 12 and 15 years.
Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt- About us
Add in that JCPenny isn’t doing very well and many malls will have lost most of their big anchor stores that they rely on. But, that will likely just mean it’ll get redeveloped into some other type of property. Ok, this is my idea. Gen X – we gotta pool our money together, and buy these malls up, and convert them into 50+ living centers. They have movie theaters, ice rinks, restaurants and parking lots that can be converted to outdoor space. Retail spots can be converted into condos, the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this big-boxes at the end into apartments. It’s a nice thought, but the upkeep costs would make malls unsuitable for residential living. It’d be better to just bulldoze the mall and build multiple apartment complexes on the land. Which is also kinda what is happening too. Chunks of some malls are leveled, and multi story apartments are going up to create “Town centers”.
There are a couple of malls in Chicagoland building multi family / senior housing on unused parking lots. I don’t know any that are repurposing the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this mall building itself though, it does seem costly. The death of the traditional indoor american mall is inevitable. Big box stores are dying as they struggle to build infrastructure to keep up with the distribution of online competition. Outdoor boutique shopping centers integrated with actual good restuarants and entertainment are popular, and will replace traditional malls because they’re not a corporate concrete tomb with the exact same stores as every other. I much prefer Dillard’s and Belk to Macy’s. If the former 2 stick around while the latter droops, that’s ok with me.

About Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt
Most American malls are in significant decline and Macy’s has a massive footprint in them. As such, their overhead per store is quite high. I’m not remotely surprised. I will miss when I can’t just go to a store for things I want to physically touch before buying, but for some goods that’s already happening. Family told me these department stores used to serve almost as “third spaces” aka places people just hung out. Cafes + clothes + services. Get something gift wrapped for a few bucks extra, get a knowledgeable person to help you with picking out an outfit for an interview, have some coffee while your significant other is shopping. I feel like I’d totally go back to that. The current model of “everything is shittily strewn about good luck fucking finding your size when you could just go online” isn’t working as well lol
Kmart had blue light specials where seemingly random items would go on sale for minutes at a time. You stayed at Kmart. My teenager loves going to the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this mall. The nearest one is an hour away though so her and her friends hang out in town, at the pool, the lake on our street, go to the movies, etc. Same basic stuff as when I was a teen. Nordstrom had restaurants at many of their stores, they got rid of those for store remodels but kept the coffee bar. So did many high-end retailers. Ikea still has their cafeteria. Target still has their cafe. Macy’s, as well as other “middle-class” retailers have an identity crisis now. Fast fashion – more so Zara, Uniqlo, H&M and even SHEIN/Temu have captured the spectrum of consumers. Gap’s Old Navy is their cash cow, while the namesake store still hasn’t found out how be relevant – J. Crew’s Madewell has given Gap jeans competition and a revitalized Abercrombie has won back millennials.
Our target got rid of the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this cafe and now just has a starbucks. I miss getting a personal pan and breadsticks while my wife shopped… All that “fast fashion” is also massively decreasing the quality of materials being used. Around here, kids are doing more shopping for used clothing, stuff made 20 years ago, for the quality (and subversiveness I’m sure)They even have fast fashion storefronts at the mall now. I saw a Fashion Nova store and I was like wtf, can’t even find quality clothes at the mall anymore except for at Macy’s and Nordstrom. Yea, malls make my anxiety go burrr but the local one has an H&M, Forever 21, etc. there’s an Zara in San Francisco. I refuse to shop at any of them. Every Nordstrom near me still has a separate restaurant, bar, and coffee shop inside and they are booming. I always see the bar packed with people taking a break or waiting for someone. The restaurants are less crowded except maybe weekend lunches though.
I feel like the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this malls in my area are the only ones not dying though. Even though the Sears space is still empty, the rest of the mall is packed (including Macys). Yeah. At our town mall, Macy’s really took a turn for the worse when a Ross opened. And a few years ago, a TJ Maxx opened in the same mall. Now it’s just crickets chirping there, while TJ Maxx is always packed. The Nordstrom at the mall near me has a nice bar smack dab in the middle of it. Clothes and shoes and luggage surrounding you. It also has a separate great restaurant with beautiful views, too. and I don’t know if this was just a Northern CA regional store, but Gottschalks’ entire third floor was a restaurant with huge floor to ceiling windows that overlooked….the mall parking lot but to little kid me it felt MAGICAL. And this was in the mid to late nineties, not a million years ago.
I went to Burlington coat factory recently when I needed a sport coat. Used to be a whole section plus on-site tailoring. Now it’s 2 racks with random sizes all mixed around. The store looked like a thrift shop but retail. Really sucks and guess I won’t be going back again. Malls were great 3rd spaces for kids and teens. They offered places to congregate, things to do (movies), and cheap places to eat. They often were also surrounded by other things kids generally enjoyed (ice cream/starbucks). Being a Mallrat was almost a rite of passage. Sure we pissed off a ton of people because we weren’t buying, but for the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this most part, we’ve respected the space. Today there’s signs at my local mall “No one under the age of 14 permitted without a parent.” The fact that Amazon is so big and the bankruptcy of so many store shows you that brick and mortar stores aren’t doing so well and that it’s not a model people care for. People want low prices and stuff delivered to them.First, people complained that the Mom & Pop stores were over-priced and had no selection.
Well, the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this missing stage after point three is Amazon came on the market gradually more and more until it seemed omnipresent. People had no consumer loyalty to a Walmart, target, sears, or staples that had put the local store Bob and Nancy ran out of business. If all you cared about was convenience and the best deal Amazon and online shopping it was. As they just decimated these big box stores what remained was actually the little guy. Those that survived the big box take over were like antibiotic resistant bacteria. They had learned how to appeal to people beyond what a larger conglomerate could offer. Your family had to tell you this? We used to hang out at the mall all the time as teenagers. Shit, I think I’m getting old
I go out of my way, even flying to places to find brick and mortar solutions to my shopping needs. Fuck Amazon and ordering online and getting blamed for when something doesn’t get delivered. There are two mall near me that really illustrate how important making these businesses into “Third Spaces” is crucial to their survival. One of the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this malls has been on its last legs for years, now. More shops disappear everyday; replaced with either nothing at all or weird, niche shops that hardly anyone visits. The only thing keeping it afloat is the Macys and the movie theater. If just one of them goes, it’s all over for the entire mall. The other mall, on the other hand, is doing great. The whole place got a facelift, is full of trendy stores and nice restaurants, movie theaters, etc. It’s always busy, and the people going there are also young and stylish. This mall will almost certainly survive if Macys goes under. In short, the malls focusing on making their businesses an “experience” for customers will stand the test of time, while the rest are going to keep fading away. It’s sad, but that’s how it is in business, I suppose.
Macy’s used to be a big deal about 30-40 years ago. They had a leg up on Sears and JC Penney for a long time, but once they started to fold, Macy’s started filling their shelves with cheap shit. This could be a smart move to try to shift back towards luxury, but they’ve got an uphill battle to change how they’re perceived. My perception of Macy’s was never too high, but the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this way they treated Marshall Field’s and Chicago in general when they barged in sent my opinion of them into the toilet. They came in acting like “well, everyone wants to be Macy’s, everyone wants to be New York” – and they badly misread Chicago. We wouldn’t have cared, if they’d just left the Field’s name alone. (We all knew that Field’s hadn’t been owned by Field’s in years – but the name had stayed, through all the changes.) That’s all we wanted – but no, they were arrogant and thought they knew better.
I hate, hate, hate Macy’s small format stores. All they have is cheap junk, which I assume has the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this largest margin. the US market, while huge, is not as large as ROW who just want the lowest cost possible. So the factories that used to do decent quality have moved downmarket, while others (MUCH fewer) have moved too far up to to psuedo-luxury. This is scary in some ways because it reinforces how stratified the economy is. Those who are doing well feel too good for Macy’s. The rest are too poor to shop there. I was around 20 when I noticed that unless you were chasing a specific designer purse or something- their products were the exact same quality as JC Penny’s but for twice the price in a slightly better organized store.
Now that Im mid-30s with a career and could afford Macy’s fairly easily- I’m still not interested in going there because I know that fact is still true. Apparently this same trend is being experienced at McDonald’s restaurants as well where they have priced themselves out of being “affordable” to a large percentage of people and the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this rest would rather go to higher end chains There’s a local burger place near me that is the same price as McDonald’s. Why would I pay for them when I can get better fast food burgers from a local chain for the same price? That’s us. When McDonalds turned into a $30 date we started going to higher-quality independent burger joints and chains like Shake Shack instead. The price is the same but the food and service are astronomically better.
Shake Shack is not the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this same price as McDonalds. A shack burger, fries and a drink at Shake Shack is $15+tax in most of the country and $16+tax in NYC. A quarter pounder with cheese, fries and a drink at McDonalds is less than $10+tax in most of the country and less than $12 in NYC. Sure McDonalds is more expensive than it used to be, but it’s not Shake Shack levels. Shake Shack is 33-50% more expensive. And that’s ignoring discounts you can get in the McDonalds app, which generally saves like 20%. Yup, the Dollar Menu crowd is gone, while the folks who could easily afford to pay $10 for lunch each day are going to fast casual places like Chipotle, or local burger places with that hipster lighting. What struck me was that the luxury lines are the only growing part of the business. Like no one wants to buy work or back to school clothes there, but the ones that can afford Louis Vuitton and Hermes are shopping more than ever… Kind of sums up the income divide pretty starkly
This is credited to the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this fact that there is now a well-developed secondary market for luxury goods and they keep their value well for resale. Also, they may not yet have all the expenses that older adults have, if living at home still for instance. Also, they can’t get in on the big item tickets like a house, so they’ve got to do something with their money… I find that surprising as I was super broke in my 20s, but this may affect people who are less broke than I was. It also seems like Target has eaten into a lot of their business as well. Target’s designer collabs almost always sell out, their home goods and clothes are all priced better than Macy’s for similar quality. As a bonus, Target sells electronics, groceries, etc. — things that Macy’s doesn’t. When Nordstrom opened a giant store in the Eaton Centre for a while, I went through the same thing – it was fun to walk through, but I couldn’t understand what kind of customer could afford to spend $2,200 on a peacoat…. and would still be buying one off a rack of them at a mall in general, instead of getting a personal session at Burberry or something.
The Nordstrom held firm and ultimately closed rather than lowering their prices, too. This will be no different. How could you tell? Last time I went there there was maybe two employees total in the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this entire store and everything was a complete mess. I have seen flea markets more organized. I would love to see malls slowly convert into small business hubs and community entertainment. I’ve heard lots of younger people are starting to hang out at malls again, but internet shopping makes buying things in mall retail where it’s 30% more expensive not make a lot of sense. But if there were game shops, restaurants, local boutiques, tailors, etc where things can be a little more bespoke or custom, it makes more sense to pay the higher premium.
Imagine instead of ugly strip malls the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this local nice mall takes in those small businesses that you know should be doing better but are getting held back by their original location choice? The one near me has converted one of the anchor wings in to entertainment space, it’s an arcade/bowling alley/pool table venue that’s open until 1am. Another wing is a show room for rare exotic cars. They’ve started leasing the parking lot to RV shows and hot tub vendors. There’s two indoor playgrounds, one that’s free and one that charges but has its own food court and wifi for the parents. It’s a pretty happening place now but only after it went through a 10 year slump. My local mall started renting a space to a marital arts club and even a High School. Several smaller businesses also rented out spaces. They’re still going to fail. Macys made their name on outstanding service, great product, and beautiful stores. The shareholders will tolerate none of that. They need returns right-fucking-now and rebuilding the brand takes too long. They’ll push it out a ways, but come 2030, Macys will go the way of Sears
Macy’s always used to be my go to store for any kind of clothing, shoes, and even makeup. It’s so disappointing how cheap and unappealing their clothing has become. And their shoe department has such poor service and lacking in sufficient stock. Even their makeup, when I spend half an hour trying on and picking out something based on the Grandma Doesn’t Usually Yell But When She Does Her Green Bay Packers Are Playing Shirt Besides,I will do this store sample, when I try to purchase it, they are out of stock on it and have to order it to be shipped. I think I won’t bother with Macy’s anymore. It’s a disappointment. I wonder how the Macy’s in Downtown Boston is doing. I’ve been to it a few times, and thought the merchandise was too pricey. If that Macy’s goes under, DTx is fucked. As someone who strongly prefers buying clothes in-person, this bums me out. I don’t buy a ton of stuff at Macy’s, but it has been my go-to for jeans for years. I think they stumbled when they eliminated regional and specific brands. When I was a kid Macy’s, A&S and Stern’s were very different experiences. They rebranded them all (at least the ones that didn’t close) to be Macy’s but they continued to be different so now you didn’t know which KIND of Macy’s you were in unless you knew what it was before. And outside the NYC area they took away regional brands people grew up with and replaced them with an unknown and frequently inferior product.
