I couldn’t even touch the VR before I bought it. Even though I had no intent to steal it nor do I look athletic at all. They are just making sure I don’t steal the damn thing.

Had a lady get mad at me because I couldn’t tell her where the Gov’t Mule’s Dark Side Of The Mule 2023 Prism Tour Shirt and I will buy this food rehydrators were, yea you read that right, rehydrator and not dehydrator This was a few years ago back when I was ON TL at a neighborhood market. I had come in early to help push some of the huge volume of holiday freight and this happened right before close; they had already made several announcements. At my market, we actually turned the registers off at 5 minutes after unless there were still people in line. (Of course we could still run cards if we wanted to, but we didn’t tell anyone that). I was using the electric Jack to pull a pet food pallet and passed this woman standing in the baby aisle obviously looking at diapers. I made eye contact, smiled and nodded and kept moving forward. So I’m dropping off the pet pallet but it’s still in the air while I meneuver it closer to the end cap, and I feel someone grab and shake my shoulder. Of course this is a huge no no with this kind of equipment so I immediately stop and let go of the handle which makes the Jack turn off. This epitome of karendom starts snapping at me about how rude it was for me to ignore her when she needed help with the diapers. I was confused bc she hadn’t said anything to me when I walked by but she insisted that I should’ve realized she needed help bc she was looking at the top stock and clearly needed someone to get something for her. I apologized and asked her to step back so that I could set and drop the pet pallet, take the electric Jack back to it’s station, then help her. She got super mad and started telling me that the customer came first. I explained that I couldn’t leave the electric Jack on the sales floor unattended and I was the only person on the floor certified to touch it. I offered to flag down another employee to help her which she refused bc “it was my job” and I couldn’t just “pawn her off on someone else”. As this is going down the FE announces that we are now closed and the registers are being turned off in a moment. This is the cue for people to make a mad dash up front and immediately check out. This lady is still staring me down and I’m still not moving bc safety. After about two minutes they announce that registers have been turned off and anyone remaining in the store needs to leave and return tomorrow. This woman blows up and says I’ll be lucky to still have a job when she’s done with me, then stomps up front. I finish setting my pallet and have it halfway back to the back room when the FE closer gets on the radio to tell me that a very upset customer up front would like to speak to the MOD. So I finish stowing the Jack and make my way up front to see this woman pacing and verbally abusing my FE person. When she sees me she starts doing this evil laugh and tells me that as soon as the manager gets there she’s gonna have me fired. Just stare at her for a minute and then point to my badge stack which clearly has my TL badge, plus the big yellow MOD one I wore when I was the only TL closing. She pitched a fit and started telling me how I ruined everything bc she had a baby shower to go to in the morning and needed a specific kind of diaper. She mentioned which one it was and I had a little chuckle. She wanted to know what was so funny and I told her. I had stocked infant first thing when I’d gotten there a few hours earlier and the diapers she wanted were definitely on the shelf, I had put them there probably 10 minutes before she came in. She just hasn’t paid enough attention to realize they had changed their packaging. She demanded I go get them and check her out. Instead I told her she could leave or I could call the cops. She left, but the next day I got pulled into the office and told that someone had made a complaint to corporate saying that I had attempted to run them over with a big red electric Jack. I told them what actually happened and they could tell from the footage I was telling the truth. Initially I was going to get a coaching for using the electric Jack while customers were in the store, but I was able to show them an email from the store lead telling me to do it that way after a kid on evenings had run over his own foot and broken his toes trying to stop a pet pallet from hitting a careless customer. So nothing ended up happening to me and I never saw her again.
