My first time going to East Asia, I’d always wanted to visit Japan and managed to save up and go. On my first day I walked in a park and saw a man feeding birds out of his hand. Goodfellas version shirt: A Provocative Statement in Modern Fashion

Watching the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this Northern Lights over Vestmannaeyjar in Iceland. I was meant to do the full ring road over 9 days, but due to weather in the northwest, I had to turn around right after Lake Myvatn. I ended up leaving my rental car at the port for Vestmannaeyjar for two days, hopping on a ferry, and wandering around the island on foot. On first day there, I climbed to the rim of the Edell volcano and was all alone up there. Slow tourism week, I suppose. That night, I got alerts on my phone that the northern lights were very likely to be seen in the area. I wandered around the harbour area where the app said they were visible, but it was quite lit up and I could only kind of sort of see them out of the corner of my eye when not looking directly at the artificial lights. I though that was going to be the totality of my viewing. Something called me back towards the lava field around the volcano before I went back to my accommodation. It was dark and uneven and probably the not the smartest move to be wandering around on my own, but after about ten minutes or so of doing so, the Northern Lights were directly overhead for about another ten minutes. So bright, the best way I’ve ever been able to describe it is like a flashlight in the sky. Just me, in a pitchblack lava field in Iceland, and the most vivid green lights I’ve ever seen. I’m so lucky to have seen that.
1964- Two of our classes from the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this American School on the Peshawar, Pakistan Air Force base took a field trip to see the Buddhas in the Bamiyan Valley of Afghanistan. We traveled in a rickety school bus in questionable condition over the long, winding dirt highway. (This was before it was paved and given guard rails.) We probably drove the driver mad with our loud singing of 100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall. I’m not sure it was related, but the bus driver scared us to death! He would drive so close to the edge as we climbed the curvy Himalayan mountain that we could see over the side where wrecked trucks and busses lay. Kids would yell “Move back to the other side!” hoping to shift the weight to the mountain wall side. Nothing shuts up a group of 12-yr-olds like that sight did (for a while). We had to stop when faced with any oncoming vehicles when one of us had to back up until the road could fit us both. There were hardly any straight parts, so we had to do a blind reverse around the curves. It was a lonnng drive, but not as long as the return trip over the same highway. 😀

We spent the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this night in Kabul, which is a story in itself. The next day, we were climbing through the cave system next to the tallest Buddha. There was still color from the ceiling frescoes painted by monks long ago. The caves were connected, so we kept climbing until we finally came out on top of the Buddha’s head. In those days rules were fairly greatly relaxed, so common sense was the only thing keeping the braver kids from falling off the 174-foot Buddha. “Don’t push! “I’m not pushing, you are!” I don’t remember where the chaperones were, but not on the head! After a day of crawling around in the caves, we went back to our hotel (there’s another story there), sat in a circle under a very tall ceiling that held one lightbulb on a wire and a slow-moving ceiling fan, and drank hot green tea while we learned some history about Bamiyan and the Buddhas. A good time was had by all!
I’m so glad I got to see the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this statues before they were destroyed. I was still pretty young (12) and didn’t take pains to record the trip, and my memories are limited. However, I did get to take a picture of one of the school buses we rode in. I feel like i have so many, but maybe it’s just a personal “I’m so lucky” and no one else thinks it. But here are a few: Cycling to the Butt of Lewis (a lighthouse on the northeastern shore of the Isle of Lewis off the coast of Scotland) and seeing a Beluga whale just hanging out a few yards from the shore…or was it a mermaid or Kelpie? Arriving in a small town in Italy with my cousin on our first backpacking trip in hopes of randomly finding the house our grandmother grew up in, only to have the following series of events occur:

The old man immediatley offers to drive us and give us a tour of the small town in his car. Arriving at the Town Hall, the old man explains in Italian that we are looking for our grandmother’s old house. The workers stop what they are working on, and tell us they will pore over the old paper records to see if the can find anything. THe old man brings us back to his house to wait. His wife cooks us a big lunch. He gets a call to bring us back to the Town Hall. Town Hall employees have bad news: Our grandmother’s house was torn down years ago. But the good news is that they have located a cousin of my grandmother’s still living in town and she wants to meet us!
After thanking the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this town hall employees profusely, we hop in the old man’s car and he drops us off at our ‘family’s’ home. Our grandmother’s cousin and her entire family – 3 generations and many our own age – are on the porch waiting to meet “these random American cousins”. They cook us amazing meals, and put us up for 3 nights. My father is from Scotland and well into his 60’s in 2016. I have 2 young kids. I decide to take my parents and wife and kids to the UK so we could see England and visit my dad’s home town (and see Scotland). While in my dad’s hometown we got to do this: Randomly Invited into my father’s childhood school with a personal tour by the headmaster – my dad, me and my boys: 3 generations – and see a note in the headmaster’s book (from the years my dad was there) which stated that he was sent to the office for ‘disciplinary reasons’ Watch my kids meet an entire banquet room of 3 generations of surviving family on my dad’s side they never even knew existed.
In Ireland, specifically on Inis Mor in the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this Aran Islands, my son and I rented bikes to sight see the island. At the end of the day, before catching the ferry back to the mainland, we randomly stopped in to Joe Watty’s Pub for a farewell pint / pop. Sitting at the bar I started talking to an older man who lived on the island. That turned into me meeting 3 locals and the pub owned who bought me a flight of whiskies and great memories. In 1999 while at university, I found a random book called ‘Europe Through the Back Door’, by some guy named Rick Steves as I was planning a 2-week vacation to Europe with 3 highschool friends. This single event changed the entire trajectory of my life and gave me the confidence to change that first 2-week trip with friends into a 3-month solo adventure around Europe. I have been obsessed with budget European travel ever since and have had countless “I’m so lucky” moments on so many of my trips.
I’ve had loads but for some reason the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this one that stands out is the rugby world cup in Japan. I’m from NZ but was living in the UK at the time, and myself and a friend decided we wanted to head to Japan, with the RWC as an excuse to go. We booked the last all blacks game with seats left, was going to be a stomping but we figured it’d be a good time anyway. So the first day we arrived, crazy jetlagged as you’d expect, we were trying to keep ourselves awake to get into the timezone and ended up poking around some electronics stores. Then I get a message from my dad saying “Are you watching the game? You should watch this”. I hadn’t even realised there was one on right then – turns out it’s Ireland v Japan. Doesn’t sound like the best game of the tournament or anything, figured it’s an easy win for Ireland – but we find the nearest place showing it which turns out to be an Irish pub – in the middle of Tokyo.
Half the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this crowd are British, leaning Irish, and the other half are Japanese, and the atmosphere in that room while the Japanese team played possibly the best game of their career was incredible. As I recall the Irish weren’t even playing terribly, so the Irish fans in the pub weren’t even mad about it, and the Japanese fans were out of their minds, everyone was just loving watching one of the best games they’d seen in a while. Went to El Salvador by myself because I heard there was decent surf and couldn’t get anyone else to go with me. I wasn’t a great surfer, but also knew enough to enjoy myself. Caught the biggest wave I had ever caught my first session out. So proud of myself and absolutely nobody to see it and I had nobody to tell. It was amazing. I’ll never forget that feeling.
I was boarding a flight from Nairobi to Ethiopia. My gate got changed minutes before boarding the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this flight. I didn’t know. (Madrid) Second time, pickpocket took the ebook (a new I got Madrid…) and both passports. The left the passport in a market (alto, la Paz, if you know,you know), a gentleman call my ambasy, and I get them back.
I’m in Lake Como. It’s off season so the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this place is virtually empty, just the locals. The weather is spectacular, feels like late spring…I know it spells planetary doom, but it sure is a treat. 20ish years ago seeing the locals at Chinchero, Peru barter for goods/animals/vegetables at the Sunday market. Trueque (sp?) I believe it’s called in Spanish. Though these people likely only spoke Quechua. Amazing to witness this custom that’s probably gone on in a similar way for a thousand years. Oruro Bolivia – Semana Santa week long parades with costumes that are some of the most amazing examples of folk art you’ll ever see. Guys walk alongside with gas cans full of coca tea to keep the parade participants going strong. This goes on for days. Picking cashew fruits with little boys maybe 8-9 yo in El Salvador and then watching them built a small fire to roast the seeds so they could get the nuts out.
Meeting a guy whose name escapes me at the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this Free Derry Museum in Derry, Northern Ireland that was actually at Bloody Sunday – I suspect he may have been an IRA man but of course that isn’t spoken of to outsiders. I was in the Faroes Islands at Kallur Lighthouse and I just remember feeling so small in this big wide world and so content and so lucky that I got to be there and experience such beauty. I felt that way basically the whole time I was in the Faroes. It was magical Was in Barcelona walking to my hostel and randomly stumbled on the Correfoc parade. It was after a bad day and I thought it was a protest, started walking around to avoid it. Then I saw the flames and heard the drums. It was amazing Also, I spent a few days at Zion in April 2020. It was empty and it was spectacular. Ate some mushrooms and gawked at the canyons. I don’t think I can ever go back because it will forever ruin the memory.
when i was travelling to portgual and spain last summer i kept thinking how expensive this trip was, at the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this airport befote boarding my plane to portgual, my flight company offered people 2.5k to take a flight the next morning. i got paid to go on vacay The trip is based in London, but on one of the days, I went to Germany for a Borussia Dortmund Match. As I’ve never been to Germany, in my mind, I’m just going to follow that guy. We land in Koln and after I’m not able to find a sim card kiosk, so I ask the guy if I can tag along with him as I’m going to the Dortmund Match as well, and in the most soft-spoken South African accent he says, “sure mate, we gotta get the train downstairs” As I then go to buy a train ticket, he then informs me that my match ticket counts as my train ticket, and it’s not necessary to buy a ticket, which saved me $20
On the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this train, we find out that we’re on the same flight back to London later in the evening and we’re sitting in the same block (we didn’t reveal what row and seat numbers) at the match, so we can grab a taxi together. As we arrive into Dortmund, we stop at a shop to get something to drink, I grab a water, but as I’m in line, he tells me that I grabbed Sparkling Water rather than Still Water. He then tells me he has to wait for his friend and that I should just go with the people ahead in yellow and I’ll find the stadium from there, so I say my good byes, and thank him for his help. I then get to the stadium and get to my seat, before kickoff, I see Peter come out from the concourse tunnel with his friend, which I was expecting at some point as we’re in the same block. He starts walking up the stairs and then starts walking in my row, and he hasn’t realized it, but sits literally right next to me.
I then look at him and say, “well this is quite the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this coincidence!” and he looks at me with a shocked look on his face, and says to his friend, “oh shit, it’s the american kid I was telling you about!” We then enjoy the match, grab a taxi, head to the airport, board the flight, and then he offers to drive me back to my hotel in Chiswick, saving me over a 100 pounds on an Uber as I forgot to book one of the busses back to London. My family went on an eco tour and it was misting. Everyone else bailed because of the rain, so our guide took extra time (last tour of the day and we were fascinated by what we were seeing and hearing). We saw pelicans less than a metre away, saw manatee just lazing around, etc.. We even helped rescue a pelican trapped in fishing line. I did the Acatenango hike and during the sunrise portion of the hike I had to take a break and was staring at Fuego when it erupted at dawn so you could see a little sunlight and lava. I had seen it have a big eruption earlier but didn’t get my phone out in time to capture it. I was able to get some really cool video and pictures this time though and it made the hike up so much more fulfilling.
We opened our blinds to about 35 monkeys playing in the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this trees, grooming each other, watching babies hang from their moms… it was so special we watched them for like an hour We were on our way to Prague, with layover in Moscow. As it was, I was easy to find in the mostly empty airport and that angel of a security guard had nothing better to do at the moment than to save my butt! Seeing this really cool piano performance on the old stone pier in Trieste, Italy, at 4:30 AM. The idea is that the piano music greets the sunrise. I’ll never forget it! I was supposed to be on White Island in New Zealand the day it erupted. The day before I changed my mind for no reason. Killed 22 people. It erupted during the time I was supposed to be there.
In Sarajevo last year during Ramadan. I’d never been to a country with a large Muslim population. Went to this fortress that overlooks the Goodfellas version shirt but in fact I love this city to watch the sunset, it’s a popular spot. There were tons of people up there and several food stands at the bottom that were swarmed. Right when the sun set, a cannon went off with a firework and everyone cheered and opened their food so fast and started going to town on their food, obviously hungry from fasting all day. But it was just a beautiful sight that I wasn’t expecting at all, everyone was so happy and celebrating, the moment was better than the view. Oh man, lots of moments I feel lucky. Just being by myself, riding a ferry in Hong Kong. Or drinking a beer on a beach. Returning to LA and realizing I’m excited to go back to LA, I don’t hate where I live.
