The thread got deleted and there was basically a wink-wink nudge-nudge element of “it’s fine, he sounds like a bit of an idiot, but as long as he doesn’t say it is for self defence and is making woodland shelters, he could technically carry a much bigger knife provided it isn’t in the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this outright banned list” Trying to get the blade out on my pen knife while a dog savages me, but I’ve cut my nails too short with the little fold-up scissors and can’t get any purchase on nail nick. It’s a stupid bit of legislation. You can’t carry anything for self defence but if you have something with a seemingly legitimate purpose you can use that to defend yourself. Anyone that defends themselves has to describe to the court their sudden interests and hobbies It’s like someone telling me to store a bat under my bed for self defence in case of a break in. But to also store balls, and rackets and other sports equipment so that under the bed was just my sports storage area and not a place for a self defence weapon.
Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt, hoodie, tank top, long sleeve tee
Someone else pointed out that as I’m not particularly brawny or trained in using a bat, all I’d do is give an opportunity to an attacker/burglar to take a weapon from me and then I’d be unarmed and up against an armed assailant. I decided the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this best plan was to know my route for very bravely running away. Yes swiss army knife or leatherman. As an old white male dont think I’m going to be stopped and searched anytime soon. I’ve carried a penknife almost every day since I was about 10. Obviously not places like the pub or work, but most other places. I grew up on a smallholding so it was totally normal. I never stabbed anyone or did anything illegal with it. I have a small Opinel on my keyring, and usually carry a slipjoint knife in a pocket. I have a ‘bladeless’ Gerber MultiTool that lives in my work bag. I also like torches. I always have a torch when I’m out and about; loving my cheap little Sofirn lights at the moment. If a knife meets all these criteria then it is perfectly legal to carry “just because” – so long as you don’t actively intend to use it as a weapon. There are exceptions e.g. if there is some kind of assisted opening mechanism (e.g. a flick knife) – what’s intended to be allowed is a standard penknife-type knife.
If it doesn’t then it may still be legal if you have lawful authority or a reasonable excuse. Lawful authority is e.g. a soldier carrying his sword. Reasonable excuse is a reason why you need the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this knife now (e.g. you’re a chef on your way to work) and not just “It might be useful” or “I needed it yesterday”. Certain types of knives are banned regardless, but they would also be illegal to posses at home: for example “mall ninja” samurai swords. Are fixed blades allowed at all? As for example for camping/bushcraft, if you carry them to the campsite in a closed container? Camping or bushcraft is a pretty reasonable excuse to be carrying a knife, so you’d benefit from the “reasonable excuse”. Similarly when you’re traveling there or back.
Where to buy this Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt
The important thing is to stop carrying the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this knife when you no longer need it. The fact that you often do bushcraft doesn’t mean you can carry such a knife when you’re not, just as the fact you’re half way though a camping holiday doesn’t mean you can take your knife with you to the pub. “Oh, I forgot I still had that with me” or “I go fishing at the weekend so I just leave it on my belt” are not reasonable excuses. In a similar vein, you don’t need a closed container. However, obviously you would want to be discreet rather than flashing it about: why invite trouble? IANAL but as far as I can tell, knives of the type you’re taking about are permitted on the condition that you can demonstrate a suitable reason for carrying it. The degree of justification you’d need is subjective though, depending on the type of knife (and probably also on the cop who’s asking). Yep carry a decent pen knife with me, same one since I was younger which apparently is now illegal (the blade locks & is over 3in) because a bunch of morons can’t stop stabbing each other
Yes, I’ve carried one for years (victorinox tinker deluxe) even went into the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this government passport office and had to surrender it at the front desk since it’s not allowed passed security in that building. Nobody said a thing, it’s completely legal. Granted, I also probably use it ten times a day due to my job (IT) so even IF I needed a “reasonable excuse” (which I don’t) I have one. Funnily enough, I’ve got some friends/family that were pretty against me carrying it originally. However, throughout the years there have been plenty of occasions where they say “god if only I had a…” and outcomes the Victorinox to save the day. Their minds are changed now. I think a lot of the anti-knife campaigns we had at school went to people’s heads and Knife = Bad in most people’s eyes, until they’re exposed to the usefulness. Just look at some of the replies here, the mere mention of a knife and people jump to self defence, they don’t even see it as a tool anymore.
I should add that if I were going to a nightclub or something I’d likely take it off, just because common sense prevails. However, it’d be legal to take it. I carry a pocket knife every day. I always make sure it’s UK legal (less than 3 inch blade, non-locking, non auto). They’re just handy things to have with you. I carry one, mainly for allotment stuff. It’s legal and pretty common to carry a pocket knife, both the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this law and public opinion doesn’t conflate pocket knives with knife crime. Think you’re worrying about nothing. The number of people shocked by this are outnumbered by the amount of people I help every day to open boxes/cut labels/tighten screws etc I have a utility knife in my bike pannier, which goes most places with me. I have a long rural commute so I need to be able to get myself out of any scrapes: cutting out something which has jammed in my drivetrain or spokes, making a bandage or a tie-down of some kind, I don’t know all the situations that might need a knife but when I need it I really need it. My pannier also has a first aid kit and various bike repair tools at all times. The knife is in a pouch in the first aid kit so it’s easy to find but not quick to access. I carry mine everywhere because it’s ridiculously helpful. Just make sure you remove it from your keys and leave it at home if you’re going to watch the wrestling at Birmingham Utilita
I carry a Leatherman multi tool just about all the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this time and never really give it much thought, although it does lock out. When I had an allotment I bumped into my old mate Gus outside as I was going in. He was a first gen Jamaican immigrant with an accent to match and we stood there having a lovely chat – never really giving much thought to the machete he had in his hand, as it was his standard gardening tool. It was only when some his missis turned up and started roasting him for it that he thought best to put it away Yes I’ve always got a little penknife on me. Knife, scissors, bottle opener and a makeshift screwdriver. Has saved my arse a few times There’s a big difference between carrying a tool and a weapon. The people carrying proper pocket knives aren’t using them as weapons and the teens stabbing each other are using their mum’s kitchen knife or some mall ninja crap they got from a bong shop.
I dated a less than reasonable fellow who told me never bring a knife to a fight, you’ll just get stabbed. He was lucky he didnt need knives to win fights but he knew even he would get stabbed if he did, so no matter how strong you are a knife does not protect you. True. Unless you’re highly trained, you’ll get that knife shoved up your arse. A bar stool is better than a knife. Avoiding the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this situation is the best though. Lost one at the airport once, totally forgot it was there. Had to put it in the confiscated box. Fairly sure it would come straight out again when I left the area. But thems the rules. I was offered the chance to go back and check the bag at the desk. A tiny Spyderco Bug folder on my keyring, I don’t use it very often but sometimes you get stupid plastic packaging or loose threads or a blunt pencil and a sharp little blade right there in your pocket saves so much time and annoyance.
After a recent trip to Switzerland i bought a Swiss army knife in the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this departure shops at the airport and carried it onto the plane. It is much more a small penknife than the electricians pocket knife i used to carry But still use it multiple times a day I carry a Leatherman Surge as an electrician, brilliant knife and I use it potentially hundreds of times daily Always get a little nervous when I forget it’s in my pocket in the pub though and have to run out to put it back in my van! Yep, still a Swiss army knife which lives in my pocket. I used to live in quite a rural town and thought nothing of carrying a pocket knife, but since moving to the city I’ve met a number of people who raised an eyebrow at it. Attitudes are definitely different in metropolitan areas IME.
I have two Victorinox SAK and use them interchangeably as EDC. One has a locking blade, and now I will make sure to leave that one at home. I have a Swiss Army knife that I use all the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this time. Mostly for the flat head screwdriver or the bottle opener. The knife I use for opening boxes/packages.
I am a foreigner who has lived India (Mumbai) for several years now. I have wondered why professionals I hire, for example, from Urban Company show jobs show up with no tools? Considering I am a big DIY person and hobbyist, I have many tools to lend them so it never is a problem, but it makes me wonder what would happen should another one of their clients does not have tools. Its not so annoying as it is just interesting and weird to me. It would be very strange in the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this US to show up at a home with nothing but yourself, lol. Can they not afford some basic tools from local hardware shops or Mr. DIY? Can anyone tell me why it is this way in India?I live in Hyderabad and no one ever shows up without tools ime. I mean, if they do…what’s the point? It’s not like I’m gonna pay them for paying me a visit, and I don’t have any tools whatsoever.
India lacks skilled blue collar workers. A lot of mechanics/technicians are winging it and charging you for the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this labor as opposed to any knowledge of how it works. I find it strange you mention Urban Company because in my experience – their pros are usually better trained and tooled. And their whole biz model aims to fix this problem. I’m in Bangalore, and have never faced this issue with urban company or any of the app based services. This used to be the case a while ago, with local electrician’s and plumbers, but haven’t faced this issue in many years now Because they are not professionals. In most cases, they are just helpers working around a professional and turn up at your door to make a quick buck rather than fix your problem. They would claim to inspect the problem and come back later and we know what happens next.
If he is a genuine worker, he would come with all the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this tools necessary for his job and complete it in one go unlike the ones mentioned above. For two reasons: (1) they come on bikes and can’t carry too many items. (2) The work at a wide variety of jobs (plumber is also an electrician, for example) and go from client to client. It’s not feasible to carry everything they might need during the day. Few handymen are professionals in the Western sense. They learn on the job and live from one day’s salary to the next. It’s the third world, bro. Maybe it’s a place thing? Cuz whenever we needed repairs ACs or plumbing. The guy comes with it and just charges for required replacements.(south) Commenting from Kolkata, and I can confirm this. Has happened with me so many times. I have had to supply allen keys and wrench to AC mechanics. Lodged a request with LG to pressure wash the air conditioner indoor unit, and the technician turned up without any pressure washer. I simply sent him away. Plumbers come up without parts even after I have told them what part is needed, and then spent the next 1hr waiting at local hardware stores. Electricians come up without any insulating tape and want it from me, and don’t even bother to return it if I don’t ask it back. It’s irritating as hell, and these people should not be called “professionals”. Why do I have to clean up after the electrician or the plumber does their work and creates a mess at the working site? In the US, plumbers themselves clean up after their work is over. Disgusting, but we can do nothing but lower our expectations, or do the work ourselves.
My wife and I were living in Kolkata up until last year. We hired a handful of plumbers and electricians off UrbanClap, and I never had any show up unprepared or without tools. Some of our contractors were a bit lazy–they didn’t make much of an effort to look for the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this source of problems, or refused to consider any explanation beyond their first suspicion. But most arrived with full toolkits and seemed at least modestly experienced. In any case, definitely better for OP to just ask for recommendations on a good plumber or electrician. Our landlord gave us the number of an electrician he’d been working with for years, who was both very professional and very honest–he’d give us a full breakdown of his rates, explain where and when he was up-charging on supplies, and was an all-around super reasonable man. Maybe it’s a Mumbai thing? I have used Urbanclap in Guwahati and Bengaluru and they always come with all the tools. Only bucket is something that I need to provide if I call for cleaning and that was also explicitly mentioned in the app. Another thing from general experience is that they obviously don’t carry a stool or step ladder and that is expected. But, they have not asked for stuff like pliers or wrench. In Bengaluru, I don’t have anything with me anyway so they will have to go back and fetch.
Also, most other comments down here seem to be acting like human AI as they are trying to justify your experience without themselves not having used it. From the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this thread, you can see from all users of Urbanclap that your experience is unique so likely a Mumbai quirk. Indian handymen aren’t professionally trained. Most never attended trade school, or even high school for that matter. Because no one is in a proper profession. A plumber today will probably be fixing electrical wiring of another house few weeks later and might even be working as a make shift mason elsewhere while operating a food cart of chole kulche on some days. So they don’t know what they will be doing in future and thus they don’t make the effort of gathering much tools. Indian Blue collar workers are not Blue collar workers because they want to be Blie collar workers. . They are blue collar workers because that’s the only thing they can do and will keep them from sleeping hungry.
Most are not from any technical school, but mid to low to unskilled worker lot. They usually come never on time at all, and then check what is necessary to go to “market” to get the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this stuff they need which often ends up wrong to make another pilgrimage to get the things done. Your one whole day is wasted. Even though I gave a tool belt to my electrician, he never uses them. Everything is a “jugad” or temporary workable fix in India. If a client doesn’t have the tools, they’re going to go get them won’t they?… No one’s going to pay them anything for just showing up duhhh At least in Kolkata, I never had a similar experience. Most of the contractors we hired off UrbanClap were clearly experienced and arrived to our home with the right tools for whichever job we’d hired them to complete. If you’ve been living in India long-term, or are planning to stay much longer, I’d suggest simply asking friends, coworkers, and neighbors for recommendations.
Or, if you hire somebody off UrbanClap/UrbanCompany who does a good job, ask for their WhatsApp–they want to make money, and most will be more than happy to accept off-platform work. that’s surprising. when i hire technicians they show up with the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this required tools- carpenters, plumbers, electricians- i don’t think i ever had to provide them anything That’s weird. Could be a regional thing because in my city they come with a big bag with whatever tools they can fit. They do make trips to the hardware store if they don’t have what they need Unpopular opinion, but could it be because they know you are a foreigner? On urban clap, if you specify the work, they usually have the tools. They are only supposed to charge if they have to go get raw materials such as wood or fixtures. They also get a convenience fee for doing this.
Hm, the Golden State Warriors x San Francisco 49ers x San Francisco Giants Signature Thank You For The Memories Shirt besides I will buy this ones we hired through Urban Company always showed up with the required tools. And would buy the required extra materials/items if needed. Even people who work in such professions often lack the skill to use modern tools. They typically rely on basic tools like screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, and hammers, expecting these essentials to be available in every home.I see so many people talking about pay, but I know plenty of places which have trouble keeping employees but pay the same as the place next door. The difference I have seen is management. Fully staffed places very often have great leaders working there. Nobody wants to deal with an asshole no matter the price. Even when customers suck but the manager supports their people, they keep working there. I
