God, as long as they don’t think slavery in America was a bad thing, dumber is better. And, really really don’t teach them math or geography and please please no science. And absolutely NO critical thinking skills. Some history is ok as long as it’s totally whitewashed. That’s what you get from entitled tiktok morons who blame each and every of their shortcomings on older generations. Good god the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this amount of people complaining about teaching on this subreddit is ridiculous. This is my 7th year teaching and 4th at my current school. I teach at a major city public school, have doubled growth 2/3 years, had 99% of students meet expected growth the other year, and had 20% of students meet or exceed expectations on the state test. Stop complaining and figure out how to be better. Build relationships with your kids. Take criticism and improve. Give up the ego and practice some humility.
Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt: Express with Style
It is much more efficient to type using the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this home row and all of your fingers. It allows you to type faster, for longer periods, and without looking at the keys. But regardless, OP outlined a lot of serious problems with their students’ skills, and this was just one of them. I agree with OP that people should learn to type properly, but a lot of these points are more alarming and concerning than their inability to type. I’m just picturing the admin assistants of the future hunched over keyboards and tapping away with only their index fingers like a corporate velociraptor. I teach in Asia so most still have decent typing skills (lots of computer use and familiarity at home) but the few who don’t average around 60-70. Using all fingers correctly most students average around 90-110 WPM. I average around 120 while touch typing and I have 2 students in Grade 10 who average 130-140.
It’s a lot more strain on the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this wrists, and will lead to pain quicker when you’re older. Ergonomics is an investment in your own personal future. I’m the same. Both my mum and I do the same “2-finger type” (mostly just the index fingers, but I do use my pinky fingers sometimes). I think this is an american problem, and I seriously hope you guys can figure it out. I’m in 11th grade in canada and no one my age has any of my problems-with the exception of a few with learning disabilities. Good luck y’all This is a parenting problem, no more and no less. I’d get my ass beat if I couldn’t solve 2x = 8 at the age of fucken twelve. Lmfao Does the public actually care though. Because in my experience this would just lead to more teacher bashing and people not really caring. It’s shameful to say but students need to hit rock bottom like embarrassing nationwide levels. Levels that suddenly governments are concerned about their image. That it gets better. Thirty years ago for me. I went to a rather expensive private school that prided itself on being better than the public schools and I was legitimately the only person in my class that could read well. Pretty much everyone else struggled to read outloud or would have to use their finger so they didn’t lose their place. When I was a senior I was the only person in my class that knew what a syllable was or how to count them. I’m actually pretty awful at math as an adult and I still graduated with the second highest math scores.

I don’t think they’re exaggerating, I think it’s the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this same thing as when old people say “kids these days don’t know how good they have it” when that’s been said every 10-20 years since the dawn of civilization lol. Where I am the kids had, at most, 10 weeks of at home learning and they are still significantly behind. These issues predated covid in my opinion. Which is even more depressing. No worries. The Seattle City Schools curriculum taught me that knowing objective math facts is racist, so it’s better that I don’t. You’re just stuck in the past Can thank social promotions for what we’re seeing today. Just make sure everyone feels good about themselves all the time… But I want the general public to understand that when the gap list is this big, it is nearly impossible to teach my curriculum efficiently I hope it’s okay to ask this here. I am not a teacher or anything, I just have a question about country data and all these anecdotes that show up on my page. Seeing this again I figure maybe you guys would know your end of this best and be the right ones to ask. How do I reconcile this with things like SAT and NAEP data? Some context about my thinking: There has been a drop, but since 2014 that drop has only been 9 points on NAEP. Are these anecdotes just some of the worst schools in the entire country, or is there some huge flaw in national / state data I don’t know about?
Did he ever think that maybe his kids wouldn’t be so dumb if he wasn’t constantly filming on TikTok. How he’s allowed to is beyond me. lol why is this getting so downvoted? I would be fucking pissed if someone filmed my child in school and posted it to TikTok. Also making stupid fucking social media content WHILE you’re doing your job is obviously not a good thing to do. And also obviously, seeing your teacher posting about you being dumb and knowing you’re who the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this teacher’s talking about would be terrible. If your child is that behind, you failed them as a parent. He’s bringing attention to that. Maybe go over it a few times in your head without the indignance and see if there might be a point to what he’s doing outside of your feelings of offense. Like he’s just another bully who uses TikTok to bully students and since he has a huge following, he’s probably monitzing off of them too and gaining a profit.
Yes kids are behind but it’s also your literal fucking job to teach them how to read instead of scolding them for not being able to. Plus we don’t know if these kids have special needs or learning disabilities so he could also be picking on kids with special needs. Science teacher IS NOT to teach your kid how to read. Period. If anything, it’s a parent’s job at around five years old. It absolutely is, and you’re getting downvoted by the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this kind of people who either have no skin in the game or are bad parents themselves. Look, I was never any good at math when I was in school. There are too many bad experiences with my dad shouting at me as a kid after getting questions wrong during our gruelling three hours a day, 5 days a week, “math study sessions,” that scarred me for life to remember. I still don’t really understand algebra, except the basics. As an adult, I STILL get performance anxiety when doing any multiplication, and doing mental math is an admitted personal weakness of mine… I can do it, but I must take my time. I work at a post office, and I can still count money accurately and effectively without a calculator, lol. If something costs £10.34 and a customer hands you £20.34, that means you give back £10.00 exactly. We had a 17/18yo come to work for us who couldn’t count money. At. All. We’re a busy little post office, and we get big cash deposits from our customers coming through when they want to bank it. Trusting this kid with lots of money was soooo friggin’ stressful, and you couldn’t ever leave him to do it alone. You had to watch him like a hawk.
We’re a post office as well as a shop. We get the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this school kids coming in to buy sweets and energy drinks after school. They’re all nice enough, but they can’t count money for shit either. Something will cost, say, 15p (UK), and 9/10 they will hand me 3 £2 coins, even £5 or £10 notes asking, “Is that enough?” This is a regular occurrence. Most of the kids just throw their change at me and let me count it for them. It’s never, ever, the right amount. Ever. >Proceeds to replace all the clocks in the school with digital clocks instead of taking a day and teaching everyone how to read a fucking clock. >Proceeds to complain on Reddit instead of just saying fuck it to his “curriculum” for a week and teaching these basic concepts to his students. I don’t care if you’re a fucking English or history teacher. Teach your fucking students this shit. This is COMPLETELY unacceptable! What the fuck are schools or teachers good for if they can’t solve this simple problem? Teachers would rather quit than take a break from their “curriculum” for a week and teach this basic shit to their students. This was going on long before the pandemic. American public education has been in decline since the 1980s. It’s highly politicized and biased leftward. When I was in school, we had Math, History, Geography, Science, English, Reading and Writing and Art. In junior high you had to take Latin to prepare you for foreign languages in high school. In high school you had to take Math/Algebra/ Geometry/Calculus and Trigonometry, then History, Science, English, Composition, Biology and Chemistry. Electives were Art or Music. School started at 7:30am and ended at 3:00pm. It’s nothing like that now. Today’s generation bitch about boomers but we’ve had it so good because we were better educated which made us more competitive in the job market. We didn’t have social justice, CRT, safe spaces, or pronouns, or hate America or any of that cool stuff.
s Do you know what any of these things are? You know safe spaces haven’t been a talking point since 2009 right? MLK gave his famous speech in 1963. You are gd right you didn’t have social justice. Your generation were spraying people with water hoses. Of course parents factor into this, but if students, on the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this whole, don’t know basic math and grammar, that’s a teacher issue. There are so many factors beside the teacher that influence a child’s education. There are many corrosive influences on children today that have nothing to do with their teachers but deeply and negatively affect their ability to learn. I don’t necessarily disagree, to an extent. But I keep seeing these types of threads pop into All from r/teachers. If it is truly that pervasive then there is a problem with the teachers themselves. I don’t know, man, are you in schools? Are you seeing this firsthand? I work with some amazing, committed, career teachers, and many are ready to walk. It is extremely hard to teach students whose parents let them stay up on TikTok until 4 AM. I have kids whose diet is majority Doritos. I have many kids who cannot reliably put a piece of paper in a folder at the end of class. I may not be the best teacher out there but I know none of that has anything to do with me. I’m not a teacher, but aren’t the skills people will actually need changing? Should education adjust? I’m 38 and have a masters degree and know how to subtract 13 from 27 on a piece of paper, but I literally never would. I could also do it in my head, but chances are I’ll just reach for my phone’s calculator. I know how to use proper grammar, but this mostly ages me because social norms have changed. If I text or email someone under 30 and capitalize my sentences I just come off as ancient. I believe education is important and value it, but it may need to change for a changing world. Most things you mentioned here can be done with google or AI, and it seems unlikely any current students will ever live in a world without these tools.
Because it demonstrates a lack of proficiency that they will need as they progress. We’ve really lowered the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this bar from “I’ll never need the Pythagorean theorem”, haven’t we? this is what happens when we let our “smartphones” do the thinking for us. but then again ai is just gonna right everything init? but whos gonna teach it, shit, now im sad… Behind what? I mean all of this sounds bad, but hasn’t it always been this way? The difference now is the really behind kids stay in school. Why would anyone be suprised? Liberal covid policies plus their lower standardized testing requirements wasn’t good thing. I work in a high school, the kids are mostly ok but they can’t do simple things like follow directions or use a manual can opener. Schools should focus more on basic life skills. I’m sorry I’m not a teacher so obviously my perspective is different but I remember being in high school and not knowing a lot of this stuff Honestly, maybe I’m fucking crazy but a lot of the shit you listed just doesn’t matter. It doesn’t. Let’s not mix up an ideal with a necessity. They don’t need to know a trapezoid from a rhombus. It doesn’t matter. And even if they don’t know the arbitrarily assigned names they still probably understand the function of the shapes. The names are all on google if they need it. (Kid think) I think taking notes is a standout among your complaints. Making observations and remarking on them should be enforced agreed. But that’s wit and wisdom now in schools.
Teachers and people in education today act like the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this fucking sky is falling because some knowledge just isn’t deemed pertinent. Because it’s not. With an answer to nearly any basic question at our fingertips (internet) it makes it far less necessary to teach in schools and kids know that. I think it’s absolutely fucking absurd to think that kids don’t know what they don’t need. Remember when you were a kid. And you thought, this is fucking bullshit. It’s not relevant to me because xyz. It’s the same on a much more significant scale. Knowledge isn’t dependent on being passed down nearly singularly. It’s nearly 100% crowd sourced. Students should be able to think critically and ask questions, find their answer, and dump it to move on to the next question. That’s daily life even for you. Think critically and admit it because I’d be hard pressed to think your retaining information like you’re about to be on jeopardy. Students/kids today have a good sense of concepts IMHO. They have such an instant grasp they can sense bullshit when it’s presented.
Idk people used to decry calculators when I was in school. I fucking hated math. And I still use a calculator for basic math. It’s efficient. Would I improve with more practice, sure. But I don’t have time for that. So I use a tool called a calculator. Just like how I wouldn’t saw through a piece of wood with a hand saw. I have power saws for that shit. And oh I also have this cool tool called the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this internet with crowd sourced knowledge. We should teach kids how to investigate and navigate those seas instead of worrying about shape names. IMO that’s what’s cool about the scientific method is it’s still a highly optimal for discovery in the digital age. IMHO the entire view of education needs to be revamped and reallocated. It needs to let go of these ideas of the past. Tech doubles with each evolution at a rapid pace. And education systems cling to ideals of the past. Educators basically say students/their parents are stupid. Yet, the world drudges on. At some point, education should realize it needs to change.
This may seem wholly random this debacle is similar to the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this entertainment/piracy debacle. It’s a never ending war so long as entertainment tries to clings to days of old. We need to make education accessible to the students we have. Not force their minds open to the education we stuff into their brain. Sounds like you can’t teach or are in the wrong profession. Also, very out dated. Are you really bringing up the 80’s tech issue, a calculator? Maybe the students just don’t like you. Your rant screams of bad teaching or teaching intent. And every year up until they reach you, the teacher before you allowed them to move on to the next grade in spite of not having met the grade level requirements.
This is what happens when you preach ideology, over actual knowledge and facts. Kids have been failing, but have been told it’s not their fault and so they move onto the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this next grade. Outsider here, why do you think this has happened? I listened to “Sold a Story” regarding reading comp. Is that it? A lack of literacy? The pandemic? And/or more? Maybe because what they teach in school is completely bullshit and indoctrinating. It doesnt helps us grow into adults at all. I dropped out at 15, got my GED and im so glad i did. School made me suicidal and everyone would bully me. 100% the worst time of my life was in school. Does any of that matter though? The majority of your students aren’t going to college. At most they need a 5 th grade reading level to do most jobs. Most of them like most people in America will be working sub $20 an hour menial jobs. Would it be nice if people were better educated? Sure. But it wouldn’t change much. Even if they were better educated. Once they graduated it would all regress and they would be in the same place.
Then let’s use the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this European system of separating students into University and Vocational tracks, which is the way things were in the U.S. in the middle 60s. You guys probably should’ve taught them these things at the appropriate age then. Maybe you wouldn’t have this issue if you were better at your job. I subbed for 2 third grade classes today they did a state achievement assessment. Out of like 44 students the highest score was a 60%. No one else even came close, most got 30% or below. I hate to say it but this is nothing new and this has always been a problem. What has changed though is there are no longer any other options for poor students. Decades ago high schools taught trades and students could load up on those classes and get skills to go get a job instead of spending their time in endless classes they cared nothing about. Kids could often drop out and just start working too, which isn’t really allowed these days. We also used to remove kids from the system if they were a problem, now we force them to stay which causes them to disrupt the other kids further. When I was doing my student teaching over 10 years ago I taught at a poorer, semi-urban school and it was astounding to be how bad this was. There were multiple kids in the sophomore history class who hadn’t passed the prerequisite history class, hadn’t passed any classes at all, and were continuing to be moved up grade levels. We had two students who were being called “seniors” because they were in their 4th year there but had never passed a class. One of them told me he was just waiting to turn 18 so he could stop coming. I also witnessed kids who couldn’t read harassing each other over not being able to read, it was insane.
This post could be describing my school as well. My last batch of 9th graders for math I had SEVERAL test 1st and 2nd grade on diagnostics. This isn’t from Covid. They are 7+ grade levels behind. This didn’t happen overnight. 1-5 out of every class of 20 or so has come to me in grade level the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this last couple years for high school math. the public knows. they just blame covid and call for more institutionalization of kids. longer school days, more school days, more testing, etc. I know it may not be the problem everywhere, but here’s a screenshot, the black and green are family members and the purple is their friend. This has always been their attitudes toward school. The suspension was because the child attacked a teacher, clawing at her neck so hard it broke her necklace and she had visible marks (scratches). This was kindergarten. The kicker? Black has a MSW, and works with kids, yet the school had to initiate therapy. She told me she went into the meeting like she had ‘no clue about child behavior’ and didn’t tell them her occupation so she could ‘test’ them. Anybody not guilty of neglect would have immediately told the teachers their background so they could hash that out as peers on some level, but she chose to be deceptive. Green refuses to discipline her son at all, because she says she doesn’t agree with a lot of methods, but I don’t think she wants to to deal with it at all. Can’t be bothered to even read the notes, meanwhile, some poor soul is trying to warn you about your kids behavior you admittedly IGNORE, so I made sure to snap that screenshot, in case there is any question about what went on in the household. She is also is college educated and has worked for children’s charities in some capacity her whole career. I kind of feel like some millennials seem to think we can still do latch-key kids, but we can’t, the world has changed. not my problem!
As long as we’re willing to admit this is also occurring in private schools and homeschools, I’m willing to have the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this conversation. Parents demand strict standards and then complain when their kids don’t meet them. The problem is few peopl understand how education works and, like most things, politicians say things that sound good to people who know nothing, but are completely useless at best. Absolutely in the same boat, I teach 16-17 year olds. Everything you said is true. The amount of common knowledge history has greatly decreased. I have students who may not know the Civil War or WWII- or Vietnam. I don’t blame the students- I blame the government for testing, tech for addiction, parenting…. Districts need to sue states over accountability and get rid of testing. If the economy was structured around work instead of convenience/gig economy- then parents would be able to have the time needed to provide foundations.
Something has got to give. People don’t even realize how much power they have. We need protests from parents, the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this public, and districts- right to work state or not. I’m not a teacher but I keep seeing these things and they’re horrifying and unimaginable having young children of my own. I have a question important to my understanding of the scope of the problem and I hope it isn’t taken the wrong way. What kinds of students are having these issues? Meaning bluntly, is this a socioeconomic or racial background-specific issue? And it’s so hilarious how inflated “testing scores” get at the state level! I can’t imagine so many kids “exceeded expectations” and end up with the issues you just named at the age of 18. As a mother of an already struggling 7 year old this is more than disheartening. I should force our school to hold him back so he can try again… no matter how hard they want to push him through.
My favorite is administration pushing the Georgia Bulldogs Vs Texas Longhorns Sec Football Championship Dec 7 2024 Mascot Shirt moreover I will buy this PBIS triangle that 75% of a given school population should by T1, 20% T2, and 5% T3 My 2nd block is 75% students who read two grades below which automatically makes them T2 minimum but my admin isn’t trying to see that Last year I had to teach a kid the alphabet. Thought it was heartbreaking that poor boy had never been taught. This year, I’ve had to teach it to several. Whose fault is it that they can’t do the things they’re supposed to learn in school? Can’t be the teachers right… I say this because I think what this will do is widen the gap with less fortunate school districts than others: my son is in 5th grade. He does struggle with identifying ideas in reading as were not word people (were math people). I’m reading these comments and thinking- how do they not know these things? Where are the parents?? Their parents should be millennials – so they should know a lot of the technological stuff. What’s going on?? I feel like since COVID the education expectations just kept getting lower and lower. They just passed our kids 2 years in a row regardless of testing or knowledge results. Now with all the school shootings and every thing that goes on in public schools our kids are home schooled but my wife is overwhelmed with it and I don’t think she’s equipped to teach them herself once they get into higher grades. We don’t know what to do, feeling like each option is going to be rough for our kids. Pretty much all of what you posted is accurate, my guy. Couple that with an inherent lack of motivation to even write their names? We’re all in for a real treat. 🙂
