While I understand and I even agree with the Gary Southshore Railcats Logo Shirt in contrast I will get this Mets cheif that there is not really a good reason why the police should need to be constantly babysitting the mentally ill, when they should rather be dealing with crime. There are, after all, entire institutions in the UK designated and designed to deal with these issues. Socal services and mental health services across the UK are buckling at the weight of their responsibilities. They have not had the necessary funding or support for years and since Covid, their demand has gone up, their staff levels have, I understand at best stagnated, and their funding reduced. With so many people now requiring some level of mental health needs and their staff having neither the time or resources to deal with it all, the police have been a bandaid to a much larger issue for a number of years now, all across the country. I understand why he wants to pull his staff back to their actual job and get that done, as law and order in this country is as much a mess as anything else. Still, I have known the issues the police now won’t be attending. Without them supporting those emergency mental health calls, just means in the end, they will be going out to more issues down the road. Going out to people who have gotten to a point they are not just a nuisance with minor mental health issues, and are now a danger to themselves and possibly also others. Unfortunately I think they already know this anyway.

For a very long time, the police have been an unappreciated band aid to the constant cut backs to our services in the UK and now someone has decided to rip off the bandaid, however necessary, the outcome will not be pretty and those most vulnerable will be hurt.
