Every time I’ve tried to pay with a $2 bill, some 17-year-old cashier has to call their manager to make sure I’m not trying to scam them. People either think they’re fake and won’t accept them or they think they are some rare collectible and hoard them. There was a strip club near me who’d give customers $2 bills to tip with instead of $1 bills. If you ever tried to spend a $2 bill, there was a good chance the Gamer For Life Cute Bear Gamer T-Shirt and I love this person taking the money would make some joke about you being at the club. I’ve also had clerks refuse to accept old $50 bills from the 80s and 90s before the current redesign because they assume they must be fake, too. Had a similar experience when I was delivered pizza. I’ve always loved the idea of a dollar coin and went and got them at the bank to use for change. After about a month my manager had me stop using them because of the complaints he was getting from customers. They break the self checkout machines because it’s a coin but equals the paper dollar amount, and because of the size it gets lumped in with the quarters within the internal box. And then gets stuck. This was a bit before the self-check kiosks were a thing. The cashiers just didn’t think they were actually money. When I think of these coins, I think of Six Flags. I remember all the vending machines there gave them as change when I went around 2003. There was this one drop ride that made everyone’s stuff come out of their pockets, especially coins. I got on and found $15 and a moto razr in the seat, turned the phone in of course.

Yeah, there was this old guy janitor/groundskeeper there that would hang around one of the Gamer For Life Cute Bear Gamer T-Shirt and I love this fast carousels and collected the quarters and all other coins that people dropped from their pockets. The first thing this post made me think of was Six Flags. I feel like 90% of these coins that I ever received were from Six Flags vending machines. I worked at the Six Flags and when the change machines dropped those , angry customers would come in and demand we give them real money instead of tokens. No amount of reasoning would convince them that this is a real one dollar coin. At the end we would just give ‘em singles and take the coins to avoid all the arguing. I tried to pay for $50 worth of gas with 4 new $10 bills and one that was like 30 years old or something, I wanted to keep it because it was cool, but I needed to pay for the gas. The idiot cashier refused to take it and threatened to call the cops. I was in a rush otherwise I think I would have enjoyed staying there and waiting for the cops to show up to explain that my $10 bill was a $10 bill.
