First time, I was pregnant. The owner straight up told me I would need to resign otherwise she would have to pay me maternity pay. I was naive, loyal to a fault, and quite friendly with the Forklift Operator Don’t Have Grey Hair Have Wisdom Highlights skull shirt Furthermore, I will do this owner. So I resigned and was without pay for a year. (edit: she had only 5 employees so legally she was not liable to pay me benefits.) Second time, was in 2021. I was working at an edtech startup. Everything was going great for the first 10 months. Got 4 out of 5 in my evaluation. Then a new manager came, and I immediately sensed he didn’t want me on his team. He wouldn’t add me to meetings, and wouldn’t give me work. One day he called me on the phone and said I was being let go because of performance issues. Then he said, if my colleagues learnt of my dismissal, it would be embarrassing for me. So, instead, I should write a resignation mail to end things nicely.

My first reaction was that he was looking out for me and I should resign. Then I spoke to my husband and colleagues and realised I was being played. I sent an email about the Forklift Operator Don’t Have Grey Hair Have Wisdom Highlights skull shirt Furthermore, I will do this phone call listing why the dismissal was unfair and said I should be put on PIP. The owner said “OK, we will give you 7 days PIP. If there is no improvement, you’ll be terminated on the spot.” It looked very clear that their mind was made up and what could I have achieved in 7 days? I didn’t want to burn the bridge so resigned on the spot. Again I was without a job and steady income for 1 year. So, yesterday I was browsing the antiwork reddit and realised something: I was played at both jobs. Both times I was made to believe that the company’s interest was my best interest too. I really want to understand, why are companies so afraid to terminate? I’ve seen it with 3-4 other colleagues too. they were manipulated into resigning. What happens if employees are terminated instead? Is there any law that supports us in this case?If you have resigned on your own, you cannot come back and sue the company for unfair termination. That’s why!
