I got mine 2 weeks after 10th birthday so yeah probably should bring it up (along with hormones and puberty in general) Didnt you learn about that topic in biology class? We learned the important things about puberty, sexuality and birth of Babies in 3rd Grade, when most of us were about 9 years old. It was made especially for young kids. A little vague and very technical. But no girl was surprised by her first period and thought it would die. Similar in Ireland, they have a specific subject for it and it covers everything from washing yourself to how female and male organs work. My kids were so comfortable with it they talked openly about it. I have boys but they still asked about periods and how I manage. Here in Poland it was the same. I don’t think any parent had to do much explaing (if the kids payed some attention in biology class). Actually it’s not. They have classes in my area of the US where they address these things. The class also includes talking about their feelings, how to communicate effectively, etc. They have a licensed counselor running the program and even have a therapy dog. This is a public school also. They do it once a week for each class in each grade.

The you are lucky, I did not Sex-Ed in school bevore we where 12 or 13. And even then boys and women got separated. So boys never got teached about periods.
