You answered it yourself, you have to stop thinking you have any control over when you die. It’s like flying: you have no control at all, if you crash you crash, not thing one you can do. Im 20, ive had a huge fear of death since i can remember, and after really working hard to change my perspective and see life with all its horrible flaws as a gift that although it was unwillingy thrust upon me, i should enjoy it the best i can, because i dont know when it will be taken from me. Instead of focusing on the fact it could be taken, i try to remind myself that worrying about it will only take up more of the precious time i have, and then i distract myself with something comforting. It doesnt always work, sometimes id get stuck for days or weeks in an existential dread, but in recent past ive been able to move past it in a matter of a few minutes to hours and get on with whatever im doing. It also helped me to think about the process, the fact that i didnt know what it was like before life means that hopefully if nothing else death is the same, and although the nothingness brings me little comfort, its more comforting than the idea of christian hell. I also grappled with morality and coming to terms with the fact that i cant know which religion is right if any, so i chose agnosticism. My view is that i will try to be as nice as i can and put as much good into the world as possible, and if the true god(s) do(es)not accept me for doing my best then i dont want into their heaven. Basically, yes its possible to lessen or eliminate your fears of dying, but it takes a lot of mental health work and effort on your part. I can say, it feels much nicer to not feel that horrible pit of blackness and anxiety fill me every single day

I’m 28 and had my decade long bout of depression, nihilism, anti-natalism, and attempted suicide twice. I can’t really explain how I don’t care about dying. I’ve had complex thoughts and hours spent thinking why things are the Female veteran not sure older and bitter generation as dumb as it seems shirt and I love this way they are. But I’m more upset or scared of my mother dying. I could care less about myself. I’d give my life if I knew I could save my mother. But the reality is she will pass on and thats the worst thing I can think of. Once you realize that life is a series of taxes, disappointment and endless responsibilities you become less attached to being alive. Questioning your mortality is a great way to step into stoicism which is where I think you might find your answers. • Whenever I get the scaries, I remind myself that worrying about death is a waste of time. It’s not a concept we humans can really grasp. Chances are, we are wrong about death being terrible/scary/nothing. We humans have been wrong about most things before being right Remember, we used to think Earth was the center of the universe and was flat as a pancake. We are probably wrong about death in some profound way. Someday, we will look back and say, “Remember when everyone was afraid of death because they thought it was the end of everything?”
