If we’re in a rush to have a bit of breakfast before school and they keep getting distracted by other stuff, I do have to constantly remind them to eat. They get cranky if they needed to eat and didn’t My parents are great parents. I mean, I’m not super heavy or anything but I’m a bit overweight. Sure, I could probably be more active but it really boils down to how I was raised. It’s completely instinctive to me even as a 30 year old man now to finish my plate. I could be completely full but my mind always just looks at a meal and I have to finish it. Can’t remember the last time I threw leftovers away. it doesn’t help them, it’s very much about adults being the boss and thinking kids are being disrespectful by saying they’re full or disliking a food. in reality, it teaches kids to have negative relationships with food that can lead to binge eating, purging, or restricting on top of not trusting your parents or yourself, not knowing how to listen to your body telling you that you’re full, becoming a very unhealthily submissive/passive person, etc. My dad used to do this to me. He stopped when I forced myself to vomit directly in his face as he was screaming at me. It got into his mouth 🙂
