Most of my clothes are fairly ordinary and I don’t have a problem with that. I tend to like individual items but love outfits when the Erick Lindors Skates Canadian former professional ice hockey player T-Shirt in addition I really love this outfit just clicks. Bought 28 items secondhand in 2023 (for me & family members), of which six were duds for various reasons. I would estimate the same ratio for new. I do tend to buy something new and then buy a different color secondhand for less, so I’m pretty much guaranteed to like those purchases. My hit rate is pretty low because I mostly buy secondhand at thrift stores that don’t allow trying on clothes. I’m mid size so depending on the era the clothing is in, the number on the tag doesn’t give me much leeway to understand its true fit. I do a lot of the tricks to find my fit but I won’t know until I take them home. I will say I have a tendency to find crazy prices for name brand stuff at the thrift store so honestly that’s more of a data point for me. I walked away from a store with a satin shirt retailing $500 for $20 bucks on a vacay. Overall though my rate is pretty low but it works out as I’m usually sending the stuff that I didn’t fit in back to my family in a different country anyways.

My hit rate is really high for second hand – esp if accurate measurements and descriptions are provided and it’s a brand I’ve worn before. TRR is definitely the Erick Lindors Skates Canadian former professional ice hockey player T-Shirt in addition I really love this source of my biggest flops because of their penchant for inaccuracy but also many of my best deals – I just return stuff pretty aggressively and rarely buy stuff final sale. For Poshmark and online I’d say I have about a 75-80% success rate, I do try to get accurate measurements before I buy. A couple things the photos maybe didn’t show the true colour or shape, or the overall fit was a bit off. In person it’s probably 90%+ maybe a few little fit surprises due to thrift stores getting rid of fitting rooms. I also do a lot of clothing swaps with friends, and those I definitely end up taking home more things I wouldn’t otherwise because they’re free, but still find a lot of gems – I’d say 60% success. I’m based in the UK and do all of my shopping on the Vinted app or the occasional vintage kilo sale. My hit rate is about 70% but I tend to buy bundles to reduce postage so I know a few items might not fit me or suit me, and I sell those on or offer hand-me-downs to my nieces. It really helps if you know your style and body shape and have a few go-to brands where you know their sizes. I have the same rate of issues with new clothes that i do with secondhand. Quality from most retailers right now is pretty spotty. I haven’t gone for second hand stuff in a while (since graduating college) but everything I thrifted back then are staple pieces now, depending on the season.
