I just like the Electric Forest 2017 June 29 JUly 2 shirt But I will love this idea of there being so many actual white Americans. If we did gene testing on the entire population there would be a lot less people able to claim they were pure white. I’m “pure white” from the look of it. Pasty, freckles and light hair. But great grandma was 100% nicaraguan. Ran into my French great grandpa down in New Orleans and it went from there. Absolutely nobody would know that was in me unless I pointed it out. And most don’t even believe it when I tell them anyways. The easy answer is anything you’ve ever heard a comedian say or allude to as stereotypical white. Could be the way they talk, fashion/footwear, car they drive, music they listen to, pretty much anything. If a comedian mentions it and everybody in the room knows they are referring to something about white people, that’s synonymous with white culture.

It’s one of the things that I found bizarre when I visited. My friend’s uncle asked me about my college’s sports team and was baffled when I told him we didn’t have one. Back in college, a group of American exchange students were baffled at the lack of party scene and how any get togethers were largely private. We told them that when you spend from 8 AM to 6 PM in class with mostly the same people, you are pretty tired of seeing each other’s faces. So American style college culture is, also, very very American to me (as the appellation suggests) Does calling the cops on your black neighbors over count as a culture? Or putting mayonnaise on everything? Truck nuts?

When that group is ostracized, subjugated, oppressed, they are forced to create their own culture based on that subjugation, based on the color of their skin. That’s what people mean when they “act as if” white Americans have no culture of their own. They mean that they have their own cultures, which can also be shared by people of other ethnicities too, because they’re not based on whiteness itself. But you can’t be white and say you belong in black culture. Because a big part of that culture is a shared oppression imposed on them against their will due to the color of their skin.
