I have no idea if it’ll be the Eat Your Vegetables Shirt moreover I will buy this same this upcoming summer, but I definitely wish I knew about it ahead of time. Again, wouldn’t have stopped my trip since we had a planned event, but I would not go if it wasn’t the case with the lantern flies. Hotel staff had vacuum backpacks on sucking up the splattered carcasses off the sidewalk. It was hard to walk without stepping on the dead, or crushing a live one (which you need to do). I’m a resident of Pittsburgh and it was bad last year. I would avoid going to certain neighborhoods because they were hit worse with them. I really enjoyed Pittsburgh but I couldn’t get over how dead it was after 5pm. It’s like the whole city empties out and you’re left with closed shops and empty parking lots. It’s such a nice city I don’t understand why more people don’t live downtown.

Come to Detroit! If you stay downtown then it’s walkable, and beautiful in the Eat Your Vegetables Shirt moreover I will buy this summer. Bonus: you can see Canada across the river! Detroit for sure! if you’re up for more than walking then borrow bikes and can easily visit Belle Isle along the river front path, bike up the de quidre cut to Eastern market, etc Burlington is pretty damn cool in the summer. It’s small but a really nice city and has beautiful views of Lake Champlain Another Pittsburgh recommendation. Fun city. The locals are nice. Walkable. Decent public transport. Lots of different neighborhoods with different vibes. Nice museums. Nice green spaces. So I love Milwaukee, WI. There are tons of festivals in the summer and a great food culture with LOTS of German, Irish, Mexican, & Italian options. It’s on Lake Michigan which is beautiful. There are miles of parks. There are some fun museums and a ton of breweries and it’s a 90 minute train ride from Chicago. In the southeast maybe asheville nc or Greenville sc if you stay downtown. Both have great downtown areas with lots of food/drink and fun stores. Greenville has a waterfall park in the middle of downtown I’m from this area (Rochester) and a summer visit is nice, but it definitely requires a car. There’s a lot of US history in the old towns in this area. Mackinac is so super fun! Wouldn’t say there’s a nearby airport though, you’d have to fly in to somewhere else and rent a car for a drive
