I grew up in Seattle and it’s funny bc that’s the Easily Distracted By Cats And Sewing Machine Lover Flower T-Shirt but in fact I love this way it was in the 90s. Then there was a tech boom that gentrified things for awhile and now it’s back to the way it was in the 90s. It’s still a beautiful city imho, though drugs and poverty are not a pretty sight to say the least. I stayed in downtown a few years ago, at the international hostel in china town. the infrastructural decay of the area was extremely sad. I never felt unsafe though. just a lot of drugs and mental health issues. I grew up in Seattle. 34 years here. Yes, parts of downtown are bad, no denying that. But Seattle as a whole is wonderful. It’s a big city, so of course there are issues. For the most part Seattle is filled with good people and clean streets. All the comments about cities in the states sound similar. Shame we don’t have some sort of social safety net for mental illness and drug addiction. It would likely help.

For me it was Dayton, Ohio. It also didn’t help that while I was there on business, I got lunch somewhere and my waitress was depressed and kept telling me how badly she wanted to leave. Im sure it has nice areas but on my way up to Yosemite, we drove through Fresno. It was the ugliest and trashiest city I’ve seen. And I lived in Vegas in 2005… So yah. Fresno along the freeway. The homeless encampments were insane and so full of trash and debris and junk, it was ridiculous. Maybe not the ugliest (in many ways it’s very beautiful), but maybe one of the most hazardous to health. It’s also a very sad story. The Government even disconnected the electricity, water and telephone services, delisted the Town and removed it from maps, to force the last residents to leave (even that did not work). In 2022 the last resident was finally evicted.
