Thank you for putting into words something I’ve struggled with describing to my mother for years. “I’m not sad, mom. I’m depressed. There’s no snapping out of it no matter how much either of us want it.” I was in a horrible depression and my cure was to turn to drugs. Got hooked on heroin and destroyed my entire life while also being madly depressed. He said he would front me and of course I tried to say no buy couldn’t. Ended up being laced with fentanyl and overdosed in the 7/11 bathroom. Manager found me and called the cops and somehow called my dad on my phone who I hadn’t spoken with in years. He drove 7 hours to come pick me up to take me to get help. Finally getting some form of help and finally telling myself it was time to change my life or I was gonna die I went to detox and a sober house on the other side of the state. I had tried many times to get sober but it was always for other people, not myself. Finally getting that strength helped me succeed. Going on 3 years sober in 10 days and have my family back in my life. Have a kick ass job (that pays very well) and just have a newfound joy for life which I had never known. It was the hardest thing I had ever done and there is a reason the success rate for getting clean is abysmally low.

It reinforces that its better off being stuck in the mollasses, but thats not where you want to be, but its so comfertsble and familiar.
