Because people are conflating white Americans with Republican Americans – especially MAGA Republicans – who have replaced culture with dogma. idk about the US as i’m european but as I see it there is no „one“ white culture just as there is no „one“ black culture for example. Like french culture is different than german culture. Same with Nigeria and Sudan. I guess the US is a bit special when it comes to this as there IS of course a black american culture that has it’s own very special history and is combined of a lot of different influences and that culture is different to any african culture for example. so black people i the US are very much seen and portrayed as a monolith, and because america loves thinking in extremes they take the entirety of white people as sort of a “counterpart”. Or even more extreme “white people” and “non-white people”. As if you could group every person that is not white into one group. Which does make sense because of US history, but not necessarily elsewhere

Because white is a very very wide rangine category that involves so many people it’s impossible to really dial it down to one specific culture. And italian american is a white american but may have a much different culture than a greek american. When I think white american culture i think pick up truck, middle america, casserole and taylor swift. I’m a black dude from nyc so white here usually is italian, irish, romanian etc and they all have different cultures from each other. The term white is funny to me, because it just become a catch all for people skin color versus actual ethnicity.
