I worked at a major Defense contractor which offered a 9/80 schedule – basically 9 hour days and every other Friday off. I don’t want to say literally everyone took it, but it was close. Two things that might be different in our scenarios – I’m in Pittsburgh and people here start work EARLY. 6-6:30 is the norm, so even after 9 hours they’re leaving at 3:30-4. Also, you really do feel that extra hour sometimes (I know I did) so 10 hours might just be a bridge too far. Tell you what though, my new jb is better than that old one in every way but MAN do I miss those guaranteed Firdays. This can be beneficial if you waste lots of time talking with other coworkers, having meetings that could be emails, and generally have a lot of workplace nonsense. Cutting the fat and just focusing on work tends to make any company more productive. But this doesn’t automatically equate to 32 hour work weeks are more productive.
