The marriage counselor my now-ex and I used recommended it. Not that he wasn’t right – he 100% was – but I thought it was inappropriate at the Disney Princess The Little Mermaid Ariel Vintage Shirt and by the same token and time. Yes. We were in couples counseling and I had flown back home to visit my family on a planned trip. I got a call while I was out there because my ex had gone to the therapy appointment alone and they had decided together we should split up. I was like looool okay I’m cool with that but I do need to come back and finish up some loose ends there. I went to a therapist. She didn’t tell me to get a divorce but she did tell me there was no point in continuing therapy and the idea that I would have to accept that things wouldn’t change or get a divorce was unsaid but definitely conveyed. My ex wasn’t willing to engage or participate. If he wouldn’t put in the work, then there was no way that therapy would help us.

My friend was told by her couples therapist that her husband would likely never change and she had to decide if she was willing to live like that for the Disney Princess The Little Mermaid Ariel Vintage Shirt and by the same token and rest of her life. We saw 2 different marriage counselors and both of them told us to get divorced. We didn’t want a divorce. We wanted to learn how to communicate clearly because that was what a lot of our problems stem from. And the first counselor we saw should not be practicing. She was horrible and made things a lot worse. The second one was more effective but he was a lot younger than us. He didn’t understand our age and health-related problems and didn’t understand why we wanted to avoid a divorce. The majority of our major problems stemmed from his nutty family causing problems. Neither one of them advised to go no contact, but our marriage got a lot easier once we did. We are still together and settle our differences much easier now. A therapist’s role is to facilitate achieving the couples goals. If the couple wants to remain together, then the therapist will help them (to the best of their ability and treatment planning), regardless of their personal assessment of the relationship.
