Most people don’t but the Disgruntled Pelican David Stop Acting Like A Disgruntled Shirt and by the same token and one I know who did: kid ended up doing very well for himself and hates his parents lol Edit: to contrast, I know A LOT who didn’t and their kids jump from job to job spending money on frivlous things and have no intrinsic or external motivation to change. And they still hate their parents lol I suppose some parents want their kids to take life seriously so they kick them out to teach them responsibility. They can always take them back if they fail and they’ll hopefully have a new-found sense of humility and gratitude. I don’t know anyone who was kicked out. My parents had a rule, at 18 you better be in school or working. I’d you’re working, you better be saving money and not blowing it on shit. Once you got out of school, you got a job and saved money. If you weren’t saving to their satisfaction, you had to start paying rent, same for the ones who chose to work and not go to school. If you didn’t want to pay rent, you were free to leave.

More often kids are trying to run out of the Disgruntled Pelican David Stop Acting Like A Disgruntled Shirt and by the same token and house at 18. I definitely did because I thought it was cool and would make me feel more independent. It did and it didn’t. I don’t regret it but also I don’t think I’m any better for it. because people who live at home with their parents don’t get laid and they turn into incels/weird undersocialized freaks. Even in Europe it’s pretty typical to move out after you finish education and get a full-time job. It’s only really in places where rent is prohibitively expensive that kids will stay with their parents for a few extra years to save up. I left for college at 18. My folks offered to let me come home if I couldn’t find a job, but I never needed to fall back on that (thankfully)
