My country has universal healthcare but if you need therapy you pay for it Shouldn’t it be “Are you willing to pay less in taxes and health insurance to support the implementation of universal health care, including mental health care”? Yes. We already pay a massive PRIVATE TAX to the healthcare companies and still have tons of out of pocket costs. The cost of care overall would probably go down too, part of the reason bills are so expensive are the administrative costs imposed on hospitals and doctors offices caused by the existence of the for profit system we have now. You would pay less in your public tax to the government than you do now in all the fees and what I like to call a “private tax” to the corporation. I worked in a level II trauma center for 13yrs and saw people die because they could not afford to see a doctor to have a minor treated only to become life threatening. Yes. I’ve lost one friend to suicide and had two close calls on others. I am perfectly willing to pay to keep people alive. As someone who makes less than $35,000 a year gross income I’m not willing to pay anymore taxes than I already do. The overwhelming majority of local and federal taxes go to law enforcement and military spending so if those taxes were restructured to pay for actually useful things like increased accessibility to healthcare that would be great. In principle yes. In practice. No. Since anything “universal” is bound to be crap. Just ask any veteran how there care is going Yes.
