(Bloodhound and Dragon knight, in that order) I really felt like I need something for the fight, and that was the horse honestly. Mounted combat is ~alright~ but most mounted foes feel like they were designed to be fought on horseback. I think he’s a great way to teach your players to go fuckle off in this game (in comparison to normal souls) being where the first “real tutorial boss” would show up in a souls game but clearly showing the damage being pitiful really encourages to leave him be if just for a tiny bit. I think it’d be reasonable at something like RL 30. At this point you’d have enough vigor to take a hit and perhaps a +4-5 weapon.

On my first character I don’t remember when I beat him but it was long after he stopped being a challenge. On my second play through, I was going for a focused set up, basically wanting to play as a Final Fantasy Dragoon. So imma need that halberd. Took several tries but I got him before moving off anywhere else I don’t remember but I made a point to explore every nook and cranny before progressing so I probably did it before stormveil castle. I came back still under leveled with a +2 halberd and we jousted for a good 10 minutes. No flasks left and i have 5 health in the end but i won. On my second play through he was the victim of dual great swords both with 126 bleed and a black knife. Never did. I fought him for over an hour on my first day until I beat him. Only “prep” I did was go grab the site of grace for a convenient respawn point
