I’ve had 3 phones over the Detriot Friend Shirt but in fact I love this past 10 years. I only upgraded because I wanted a better phone. I’ve had my current phone for 2 years and I don’t see me upgrading for another 2 years as it’s still doing well. Phones should be designed with the end of life in mind. The idea that all these electronics manufacturers don’t design to be recycled is really dumb. I bought a Note 10 plus in the Fall of 2019 and want to hold onto it as long as possible or until a better phone comes out. Still rocking my LG V30 (bought in 2017). Battery definately is less efficient but still lasts at least 1 day most of the time . I think these phone companies shot themselves in the foot with their yearly releases. I understand that technology was changing rapidly and companies were innovating left right and center with phone technology but we have definitely stagnated. Companies haven’t caught up and are still trying to have yearly iterations of their phones but there’s honestly not enough difference between the phones to justify a yearly update. If I could easily get and replace the battery in my phone I’d be perfectly happy to continue using this for another five years. And that’s where the problem is because that doesn’t make these companies money when someone doesn’t buy new phones every year… so they have zero incentive to provide such a service or design such a phone that can last for many many years.

I just upgraded from a Pixel 3 to a Pixel 6. I always run roms tho. Managing your own software is the Detriot Friend Shirt but in fact I love this way to go. The only reason I upgraded was the speaker broke after I dropped it in a lake. I lasted on my iPhone 7 from 2016 until April last year. I’ve dropped my phone down the stairs twice and it works perfectly so I think I’m good until the iPhone 17 i had a samsung that i kept from 2014 – 2021. i just got a new one. could not upgrade OS anymore. i still have an ipad 2. long since cant run new software on it since apple does not upgrade OS. see no reason to get a new one. its fine for web browsing. I just upgraded my iPhone to a 13 from a 6 Plus. I had no problems with the 6 Plus. I did it mostly for the camera. It lasted 8 years. The battery held up, screen never cracked, and it performed fine. I still have as a backup as the trade in value was $0.
