Ask yourself, can you sincerely recommend someone between the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this ages of 20-30 (which is the majority demographic of this sub) to go to a place like Nigeria alone? But sorry if you thought I was offended. I’m not offended I just want others to maybe discuss on this topic Abit more about the stigma of travelling to other places (regardless of were, I just used Nigeria as an example that I went to) and maybe people can be Abit more open minded to this topic and learn that there is another side to countries outside of Australia, America, or Canada etc Well I travelled there from Australia on my own. I didn’t know anyone from back home in Australia whilst I was there. And when he was at work I always went on adventures by myself. He is more of a local there and grew up there. I am an Australian so completely different worlds. But I guess solo travel is what each person decides is solo. But definitely I trip I did by myself and no one was with me whilst traveling 4 different countries to get there over 3 days. “Solo travel” runs a wide range of things from people going alone to Western Europe to people traveling alone to places with level 3 advisories or bigger risks.
Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt description
Just because a place is statistically riskier doesn’t mean it’s literally impossible to travel there alone. IMO it’s not very useful to make sweeping generalizations about places being 100% “unsafe” or “safe” for travel. More realistic for people to just be informed about the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this risks if they’re going to any country. There are more niche travel forums full of people who travel independently all around West Africa, so it’s not like it’s impossible. I’m sure it can be immensely rewarding for the well-prepared and open-minded. It sounds like you haven’t had a bad incident. I feel like you are being naive and I hope nothing bad happens to you to change your perspective. Maybe the US, but I can’t think of anywhere in Canada, New Zealand, Australia (except for harsh geographies like the desert or the tundra). I haven’t traveled enough of western Europe to make the same claim. But I hardly think we should be using the US as our benchmark for safety in western countries. What cities in the US can you not just go to…? I’ve walked around Oakland, Detroit, New Orleans, the Bronx, Gary, Indiana and never had a single problem.
The golden rule applies in “dangerous” cities everywhere: leave people alone, walk with a purpose and don’t go out of your way to look like someone who wants to be robbed. Coincidentally enough the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this only city where I did have problems was Barcelona, where a man tried to wrestle my phone out of my hands in broad daylight and I had knockout brawl with him in the Gothic Quarter. The Bronx is decent these days. A lot of hardworking immigrants who just want a better life. But places like Gary or East St Louis seem hopeless, and that’s what allows crime to flourish Barcelona is really bad. I saw multiple muggings in a two hour period. I’d never take my family there. Like ordinary people there are straight up criminals and I’ve never seen that before. Well, except in Iraq heh.

Also areas along the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this Arizona/Mexico border are nuts – like, I work for the US Govt as a wildland firefighter and sometimes we just dont mess with fires in certain areas along the border (near sierra vista and nogales). Not fun trying to fight fire with a dude with a machine gun watching you… who’s not the police and who’s American. It’s straight up a militarized zone down there! Kinda crazy cuz some of it’s public land and theoretically you could go camping in the same places lol. Only white people say there are places you can’t go. They went to a random neighborhood in Detroit and got scared when they were no white people. They were minority and freaked the hell out Exactly. Why is it that we can excuse the rampant property crime in major European cities but these dingbats listen to every news report about Portland? Worms for brains. Parts of Portland are super dangerous, from personal experience. FWIW I’m white and the sketchy people were also white, and seriously cracked out on some kind of drugs
Yes I know, from personal experience as well. Parts of every major western city are super dangerous, that’s my point. Alice Springs in Australia. Cancelled a solo trip there last year because it was constantly in the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this news for crimes and you can not go out there at night. Perception or not, I was assaulted in the heart of a safe, larger city in Australia last year so I was no longer willing to risk going to a “dangerous” one. Admittedly I have never lived in the US. But I have lived in Toronto, Ottawa and Auckland, and even though all three have seedy areas, there is no part of those cities that I am afraid to go to. Some outback communities. I generally wouldn’t assume I would be welcome unless they are very clearly welcoming visitors. There’s also certain places that are fine to pass through during the day but I’d strongly recommend against spending the night (places like tennant creek & Alice Springs)
Fair. I’ve never been to the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this outback despite living in Australia for the majority of my life, it seems so isolating! Not countries, I said some areas. Some areas even in Australia are dangerous. There are dangerous areas all over the world regardless of country. Wether something happens to you or not isn’t really the point. It’s just advisable to stay away Incase of something happening. Since I’m a woman, and never been to America, I would not put myself in that unsafe situation in a area I knew going alone would not be wise. Just like I wouldn’t go to some areas of cape town in Africa by myself. But my point was that there are good and bad places everywhere. Wether it’s Africa or America My argument is that some countries don’t have places that are simply too dangerous to go to (due to other people – geography is a different story). There are places in Darwin especially on weekends you’d need to be careful. There’s rougher areas in most cities you’d need to be careful too. Spanian on YouTube goes to hoods in Australia and around the world.
I kind of get you since I am from Latin America and we are usually not portrayed positively either. However, the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this issue with Nigeria isn’t poverty, but terrorism. Boko Haram is not a joke. They are brutal. So I see you’re commenting a lot about safety in areas like the us for example about how you just don’t go to area X because it’s dangerous so why is Nigeria or India or a ‘poorer country’ so bad to go to and I have a thought on that. When I go to new York, I know the general idea. I know who I can ask for help with safety. I have resources and general knowledge overall. Things make sense. If I go to India… It’s different. Obviously there’s some areas you don’t go to vs some you do but if I run into trouble in India, I’m going to have a much much much worse time than in NYC. Why? Because theres so many other outside factors that I may not even be aware of.
It’s simply risk factor. I will never visit India not because it’s poor but because the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this risk and my knowledge is so much less vs anywhere in North America or even Europe broadly. Why go to a place with a higher risk vs a place with lower when my goal is something that can reasonably be done in both? To your point I think part of it is being in another country and being in a country where you don’t know a lot and where there are chances where things can go wrong. I’ve flown Spirit plenty times and Delta plenty times. I’ve had good experiences with both. The difference comes when something goes wrong, that’s where Spirit stinks and Delta shines. OP’s husband is from the country. I think a lot of people I know would think that it’s really cool that she is going to Nigeria and has a local she can travel with. I also think a lot of people would be cautious about traveling to Nigeria if they didn’t have a connection. If something goes wrong then I have less confidence about me being able to safely navigate what I need to do compared to somewhere closer to home or with better infrastructure. I don’t think it’s an issue of “the western media” that gets blamed for everything but people making rational (but biased) choices with limited information. As others mentioned it’s good you feel safe exploring Nigeria. I have been interested in going at some point. I spent time in Latam & also Senegal, and understand the experience of people stigmatizing. At least in US it’s a lot to do with people being uneducated about the reality. However, when I was in Senegal, I spoke with various people from other West African countries (not nigeria) and they recommended certain countries, however I was advised against Nigeria at this time given some of the challenges in the country. Similarly, I went to Nicaragua, but probably wouldn’t have if i didn’t go with someone who spent time there (a few years ago don’t know the situation as of now). Basically, while I agree there is a lot of stigma about countries, there are also certain places that are just not advisable to travel alone at this time. I also wanted to go to Morocco, but was told that as a female solo traveler, it was not going to be an enjoyable trip. It’s great you have your husband who is from there to guide you, but there are places that even knowledgeable people and travelers might advise against. This is not necessarily about the stigma of traveling to poor countries which definitely also exists unfortunately and has many other negative consequences on people’s perception.
Outside of major tourist destinations, most countries don’t export their culture very much so the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this general public’s only idea of a country might be the entire region. For example if there’s no specific news about a given country. A good example is the Middle East where conflicts will erupt and sometimes those conflicts are a fair distance from other countries but the news will just paint the whole region with the same brush. It’s kinda similar with parts of Africa, Latin America and whatnot. Would it be nice if the media were a bit more “fair” in showing different sides of countries? Yeah for sure, but that’s not exactly something we have control over. At the end of the day, people will always judge based on one thing or another and unless it’s someone you know and are interested in educating then it’s not worth losing sleep over it.
It’s not just about stereotypes. Poverty and crime tend to go hand in hand,. The correlation isn’t universal, but it’s common. Nigeria has massive abject poverty, with 43% of the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this population living below the poverty line. It also has a very high crime rate. When my father’s company sent him to Nigeria and Angola, they hired armed security for him in both countries. And my father was not some high-ranking official; he was there to provide training for local oil company employees. When you need armed security simply to travel around, society has failed. Boko Haram is active in Nigeria, and operate with seeming impunity in parts of the country. Other groups also conduct kidnappings for profit; if you’re a westerner, you’re automatically seen as rich and therefore a lucrative target. Journalists trying to report from the country are routinely killed, and those murders are usually not solved. Nigeria has one of the highest murder rates in the world; in 2022, 44,200 people were murdered in Nigeria, and the majority of those murderers have not been caught or prosecuted.
Skipping past violent crime, a massive amount of online scams are run from Nigeria. Part of my work includes cybersecurity defense, and Nigeria is #5 on the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this list of countries we see intrusion attempts from (the first four are Russia, China, Turkey and Brazil.) Although dated now, those spam emails from a Nigerian prince wanting to entrust you with millions of dollars if you would just send him a few thousand dollars in filing fees via Western Union are legendary, and those basically all operated out of Lagos. That’s not to say Nigeria lacks culture or love. Nor that frighteningly high rates of violent crime don’t occur elsewhere in the world, including in wealthy countries like the United States. But looking at these numbers, a reasonable person could hardly be faulted for thinking twice about visiting, even if they harbor no ill will towards the average Nigerian. I understand the desire to visit your husband’s family, but those flight agents may simply have been concerned for your safety.
Just ignore and enjoy your holiday. At least you know what to expect and can have a good time there. Even these comments, which are supposed to be from people who understand what the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this world is like, have proven your point again. As an African I definitely understand too. I’d say just be proud of where you’ve been, share your experiences with people, and then leave them to think what they want. I actually take pleasure in talking about the 3rd World Countries I have visited, specifically focusing on illustrating how little people actually know about the place based on their consumption of media narratives. People actually find you brave and who knows, you might even open up their brainwashed minds a little bit! It’s always hard to explain until you go there yourself. I always hear either kidnappings, bomb threats, dangerous protests or that someone will kill you because you are a tourist. This is the same for some Asian places I have been and also Germany, Egypt etc. Seems to all be the same narrative. Or that everyone is either starving or dying on the street. Those are the main assumptions I have noticed that people used when I travel.
When I initially told people I was moving to Mexico you’d have thought I told them I was going to Mars (there’s no water and the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this buildings explode!) but with narcos (they kidnap and sell tourists back to their families!) and that’s just Mexico. I can’t imagine the ignorance around Nigeria. I will say tho, when I started studying Mexican history it became very clear to me why white western media makes people who are willing to trade comfort for freedom into villains. If we all realised the liveable realities of overthrowing someone with their boot on your neck, we might take actions that would threaten the oligarchy. Now when I hear ignorance about developing countries I immediately wonder who benefits from me thinking (insert country/people) is “bad” and why?
Even people at my workplace look down upon me because I’m from India. They think I’m rolling in filth everyday and trying to scam people or harass women online. I’ve stopped thinking about it or wasting my time trying to explain. Last year, I went on a solo trip across Switzerland. Some of my colleagues from the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this US and Canada became toxic af and passive aggressive when they came to know that. In the end, I’ve realized there is little you can do. A large section of humanity is unhappy with life and struggling to get things done. Combine that with carefully engineered propaganda on social media and you have lots of people quickly jumping to false conclusions. If your coworkers are verbalizing these things, they should be reported. You know you don’t have to put up with such a toxic and biased environment or shrug your shoulders at it. You don’t get it. Labour laws are poorly enforced in India. This gives employers a chance to exploit. Lot of the jobs are outsourced to India to save on costs. There is no use trying to verbalize these things, I’ll most likely lose my job if I did. Supply of workers in India is always 10X the demand, so I’ll be replaced easily as well.
I’m sorry to hear that. And I have heard first hand the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this stigma against indians. It’s not right and never will be right. There are good and bad to every country, unfortunately most media only show the worst of the worst. It’s a shame. People who don’t understand or never traveled to these places will continue to judge them or the people from that country until they see it for themselves. They only see the worst parts too. Not the civilized and beautiful cities. Only the worst parts and the worst events that happen there. Which actually happen in western countries too Well, I don’t condone the mistreatment but it’s not completely unfounded either. A large section of Indians really need to take a crash course on civic sense and human decency. But that said, there are still plenty of us here who were raised with good education, values and are fairly well travelled. We’re as normal as anyone else anywhere, but will unfortunately always be judged with the same lens.
Nothing is missing at all. We’re seen as cheap labour that can be exploited and over-worked. Lot of folks in the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this west are nice to us on the face, but actually see us as inferior. India’s portrayal in the western media only adds to that. The Switzerland trip came as a shock to them and they didn’t know how to react. I suspect many are pissed off with the current recession and cost of living crisis as well. Nobody wants to see Indians do well. After all, we were slaves less than 100 years ago. I liked Nigeria more than I expected to. Yeah it’s a real eye-opener, the most populous country in Africa so there are people EVERYWHERE. Traffic is pure chaos. But people very friendly and they’ll talk your ear off….
It must be really stressful having what others say effect you so much. I honestly hope you can find a way past all that. Safe travels! if this judgement isn’t coming from close friends/family who are aware of why you’re going, i’d say stop paying attention since their reactions (or lack thereof) come from a place of total ignorance. acquaintances/friends, not immediate family/close friends, have misremembered where i’ve been, confused it with other places, used its former name, and ive learned the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this pointlessness in correcting or explaining them, etc. at the end of the day youre doing what you do b/c its important to you and your family, not for others I spent a month traveling around Pakistan and it was amazing. However, my friends and family there have armed guards outside their home and travel in groups. I was in Swat region, and everything was locked down because a sitting member of congress was kidnapped and held for ransom. It was paid and he was returned within a week.
There are still wonderful people in the Dental Squad Tooth Dental Assistant Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this world and beautiful places to see. I don’t surround myself with people or news sources that are weird or overtly negative, so I don’t really understand the whole “stigma” around going anywhere. Screw the haters and ignorant people. Travel is about just doing what you want and hopefully contributing to the local areas you visit. The only one I’ve ever seen was the Louis Theroux in Lagos episode, but he did a whole series on multiple cities. I’m not OP, but when she talks about portrayals in TV shows, the only one I can think of is Bob Hearts Abishola. And while that show exploits some stereotypes for comedic effect, it’s hardly a negative portrayal. I think there’s a good middle ground between seeing the world and not touching places that don’t need to be touched by outsiders. Like most countries in Africa should be seen solely to disparage the idea that Africa is some backwater. But also a lot of areas shouldn’t be touched as they’re trying to grow in their own, and tourism money can be a double edge sword. People who don’t travel much, especially internationally, have this idea that everywhere that isn’t America, Canada, and Europe is a dangerous hellscape. Before moving to Cambodia, the amount of incredulous shit I got was a trip. I’ve lived in several states and many cities during several decades of life in America and never felt as safe as I do in Siem Reap. People largely don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about and it doesn’t help when some idiots like to drum up fearmongering based on extremely rare incidents.
