The solution to cash getting phased out and tipping going away isn’t to make tipping more accessible by card. It’s to introduce a culture where tipping is phased out, replaced by living wages. It’s a parasitic practice that needs to die. And before people get on at me about that being unrealistic to do – it isn’t. If your business can’t afford to provide an appropriate salary to its workers and requires tips to ensure they get a decent wage – your business shouldn’t be successful. Equally – before someone says it’s no different to tipping with change etc. It absolutely is. Tipping because you liked someones service was done by you giving out cash directly to the individual you found went above and beyond. If you’re a person that did that, you can always ensure to have a bit of cash on you. A card machine is a transaction that goes through the accounts of the business. That money would then be divvied up and what reaches the servers is a mystery known only to those working there. This moves from being a gesture of good will and respect to yet another financial transaction. Pretty much this.
