I toured solo a few years ago (am female) and felt super safe! I did some free guided walks to ground myself in the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this city, and even travelled by bus/train to the Soviet statue park!!! Say you’re going on free guided tours and it might help put their mind at ease 🙂 Last year, Budapest was chosen as the safest European city for women. I stayed there as an exchange student for 1 year and went out dozens of times a night, alone, and I was always safe. There are many beautiful women in Europe. You are not special. Don’t underestimate yourself. Tried to post a luggage discussion this morning and it was auto-deleted. This idiot posts “am I going to get kidnapped?” And gets a hundred upvotes. Reddit is fucked. Honestly tho, Eastern Europe was a different place when your parents were growing up. I think you’ll be fine today.
Defund New Jersey -shirt: A Provocative Statement in Modern Fashion
Probably the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this safest city of all those you are visiting. Oslo’s is not that safe anymore. The only problem in Budapest are the p*rn and adult industry recruiters. They actually exist and target solo travellers no joke I’d be more worried about France than Budapest. I went to Budapest solo and had no problems. You come across a few groups on a stag weekend but they are usually no problem. A few years ago a high school canceled its trip to Europe bc of fears of their children being kidnapped. All bc of a move. Budapest is beautiful. Like with any major city, use common sense, don’t wander dangerous streets at night and you’ll be fine. A few years ago a high school canceled its trip to Europe bc of fears of their children being kidnapped. All bc of a move. As I said on another post, CBS is airing a TV show called FBI: International that follows a team of FBI agents solving crimes committed by Americans or against Americans in Europe. Some episodes are controversial, but the most controversial was the episode that suggested Sweden is drowning in Neo-Nazi gangs who kill anyone who looks Syrian. I live in Budapest. It’s completely safe. Ofc there are worse neighbourhoods and you have to watch out for pickpockets on public transport bit it’s a tourist friendly vibrant city. Marseille is more dangerous but it’s still ok I’m a woman who’s travelled extensively in Western and Eastern European cities. You will be absolutely fine as long as you’re not totally daft and take usual precautions. Eastern cities feel a lot safer than Western cities (worst one for me was Paris). Prague and Budapest are fine.
Incidentally Europe as a whole feels a fuckton safer than America where any idiot on the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this street might be carrying a concealed weapon. As a foreigner I found that concept genuinely way scarier when I was there than any other place I’ve ever travelled. Hi! I have solo traveled all over Europe as a woman. My first trip was when I was 22 and 10 years later I’m still solo traveling when I can. I lived in Budapest for a year and moved there knowing literally no one. You will be 100% fine. If you have questions you can message me and I can give you any tips 🙂 Budapest is amazing, and we felt perfectly safe there! My opinion, too – it’s safer than Marseille. I’ve been to both. There’s a danger for travelers anywhere, including in the U.S. Just use your best judgment, don’t go out and drink alone, and stick to areas where there are a good amount of people. Take a taxi instead of walking alone at night or in off-the-beaten-path places. Wear a money belt instead of a purse. Don’t wear jewelry that might tempt a thief. Again, this applies to traveling anywhere. It was late at night, a guy offered to walk me back to where I was staying but I declined as I didn’t want him getting the wrong idea (probably just a nice guy). So I walked alone. A man kept following me around in his van telling me he will bring me back to wherever I was staying. I ended up having to run while crying my eyes out and luckily bumped into a couple of people who walked me back thankfully. But yes just don’t walk alone at night, common sense anyway, which I clearly didn’t have. Stay with people from your hostel and you’ll be fine!

As parents they worry, especially traveling by yourself to overseas. You’re are brave & independent, kudos to you. I’d be a wreck as a father if my daughter would to do same. Safe travels & keep us posted Boomers gonna boom, they’ll say this if you go anywhere that isn’t in western Europe, Australia or japan, or probably even if you go to New York or Los angeles Budapest is a very safe city. More so than most major cities in France or Britain, and significantly more so than anywhere in the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this US. Sounds like they’re stuck way back in time when Eastern Europe was felt to be too sketchy, etc. I agree with you that Marseille is probably going to be the most sketchy out of that list. Budapest is very safe.
I was always too scared to go to Eastern Europe my myself and ended up going WITH my mum. Budapest was a total breeze and just a nice big city in the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this end and I felt like I made a fuss over nothing lol. Afterwards, I did go to Croatia alone and was approached by persistent random men twice, being followed home one of those times. From my experience greater care is required there but you haven’t said you’re going If you watch the true to life documentary film Hostel you’ll get a good idea of what it’s like to travel Europe as an American. No. Budapest was my very first solo trip when I was 25f. It was so much fun. I would recommend staying in a social hostel, it’s definitely more fun with people (at night at least). Plenty to do during the day by yourself. I didn’t get kidnapped solo traveling to Budapest, but I did fail to visit the Torture Museum and it’s my biggest disappointment. So please go and I’ll live vicariously through you.
there are lots of young women walking all around budapest by themselves all the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this time students working just hanging out or otherwise and its normal Danger is everywhere. Just don’t be stupid. Pay attention and be aware of your surroundings. Know where the consulate or embassy is located if anything becomes sketchy. Share your location with a trusted friend or relative. Otherwise, enjoy your trip. parents acting this way cus thanks to decades of US/Western propaganda USAians are irrationally afraid of ‘communism’ and think anywhere Eastern Europe is inherently ‘communist’ #xenophobia Maybe in Marseille you will be kidnapped, but hopefuly not even there. Budapest is so safe. You are just another tourist, no one will find you special to kidnap
sounds like our families are the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this same. my family has always been “anti-leaving the US for any reason whatsoever” I actually found travelling through Europe as a woman is that less “safe” countries were often more safe for me because I could afford to stay in the city center and do guided tours, where as in places like Paris or London I could only afford unsafe areas. I had no idea about the kidnapping thing when I was in Budapest, unsure if that was a thing. I had a lot of fun and felt very safe in the city center staying in a nice hostel. Personally I wouldn’t go to Marseilles it’s a little dirty and scary but Budapest?? That’s one of the safest cities in Europe I don’t see what there is to be scared of.. I met some Hungarians and we drank wine In a graveyard. We could hardly communicate so we bonded over playing skrillix.
I’m a woman too, lived in Budapest for a couple years and was out at like 4 am completely blasted drunk for more times than I can count and never felt unsafe in the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this slightest. Even less so while sober during daytime! Since you don’t even plan on drinking or going out at night, you’re going to be more than fine lmao. Hungary is Central Europe. I have been to Budapest, and all over Central Europe, numerous times. Your parents are being ridiculous, you are going to be just fine. I’ve always felt incredibly safe there. I’d be way more concerned for my safety going to the US. It’s hard, I get the worry, you’re their baby and you’ll be far away and on your own. But that applies to anywhere you might go alone. Budapest is almost like a rite of passage for any young solo traveller these days, no need to skip it, it’s as safe as anywhere else and an absolute blast. I spent a week there and I didn’t want to leave, I think about going back all the time… damn I’m jealous your going soon!
I went to Prague the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this year before and the area right by the station was slightly sketchy but overall it was amazing and I never felt unsafe There are plenty others beautiful cities in France , I personally wouldn’t recommend Marseille for a young woman first time solo trip. Eastern European cities are generally significantly safer than Western European cities. I say that as someone from the uk who lived in eastern Europe for four years. Never once felt unsafe or under threat from other people, and I have done on several occasions in cities in the uk. Aside from that, Budapest is a beautiful city so enjoy! Take a walk up gellert hill- beautiful views- and make sure to check out one of the ruin bars.
I am very observant and saw women who were clearly prostitutes in Budapest, but I never felt threatened by anyone. American i guess? Show them this list: Its homicide rate, not kidnapping rate. But its a good indicator of how likely violent crimes are in general. Hungary is 7x safer than the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this US. There literally isnt a single state in america that is as safe as hungary. But generally you’ll be safer in pretty much any country in europe, than in pretty much any state in the US. Also btw cool list of destinations for someones first trip to europe. Much more unique than just the 100 millionth person wanting to go to Paris and Rome. Kudos!
I’ve been to both Prague and Marseille in the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this past year, just my mum(53) and I(22). Very safe, just practice caution like you would do in your home town or any other city. If places like this were as dangerous as the rumours, they wouldn’t be touristic and liveable. Don’t let them scare you and be brave! A recommendation for Marseille, get a boat from the vieux port and head to the calanaque islands, they’re beautiful 🙂 Was my favourite part of the trip. The State Department, which tends to overstate dangers overseas, lists Hungary as a Tier 1 nation: Exercise normal precautions. There are four levels in the State Department rankings, ranging from Exercise normal precautions to Do not travel. Most of Western Europe (England, France, Germany, etc.) is Tier 2, not Tier 1. If you want to look up the details for any nation you’re considering travelling to, here’s the link to the State Department Travel Advisories site:
While the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this State Department doesn’t rank the United States, I would probably rank it as Tier 2, not Tier 1. Some people from outside the United States have ranked it as Tier 3. It’s probably far safer to travel to Hungary than it is to go to the closest big city to your house. Went to Budapest and Prague last year with my family. Remarked at the absence of seedy characters and overall cleanliness. Prague was my favorite by far, however Budapest was wonderful.. especially Dracula’s dungeon under Buda Castle. Have a great time! Can’t say much about Budapest other than it being a nice city. However, as a Norwegian, why Oslo? It’s a perfectly nice European city, but if you want to experience Norway at its most Norway then Oslo is not the best choice. Go to the west coast or the north, maybe Bergen if you want more fjords and mountains. Or even better: fly to Oslo, take the train to Bergen, it’s supposed to be a beautiful train ride. They’ve watched taken, which is fantasy. Europe, especially Budapest, is much much safer as any part in the US. The only parts in EU that are dangerous to go are the city parts of western europe with lots of illegal immigrants. Budapest is not one of those cities.
Never had a problem in Budapest. I guess Americans think our cities are like major American cities like Detroit. But in reality we have much less crime here than in the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this US. Out of all the places you mentioned, France would be considered the most dangerous, but hey, you do you. You need to tell mom that the movie “Taken” is not a documentary. Human trafficking is not exclusive to Eastern Europe. Stay in groups, cover your drinks, don’t go snooping around lady “go-go” bars. Any of those cities will be way safer than any major US city. And tbh, Budapest is the best one to visit out of the four imo. Marseille is the most dangerous by European standards, and Prague is nice but way too touristy for me. My partner is from australia and her parents had mental breakdown when she wanted to visit my home country in lithuania because her parents though shes gonn be sold to sex trafficking and retarded shit like that, the regular racist boomer rhetoric. If you look online france is much more dangerous than most eastern european countries (and even france saftety is much higher than rest of the world in general) and most kidnappings happen in Belgium.
I solo traveled most of europe and budapest was my favorite place felt safe at night and it was absolutely wonderful experience. OP let me tell you one thing I have solo travelled to Budapest in May last year and it was one of the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this best trips I have been on. It was so great that my sister joined and later my other sister’s husband. I would say go for it Budapest is a great city. It’s ridiculous. You won’t be kidnapped, don’t worry. East EU is way safer than West, even though the stereotypes will make you believe otherwise. If you don’t believe me, have a look at this post: I’ve been on a business trip not long ago in Paris with female colleagues, and on the way out from the airport, a random, well-dressed dude asked the girls if they want a taxi… and it was like right under a sign in the airport that says something like “unlicensed taxi = real danger.” (we’ve been warned about this before going there too)
They are not right. Its a touristy, friendly city. I walked the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this main drags and the less affluent places and nothing there was out of place or scary. Your parents are definitely too into Facebook/network news. Safety issues that would come up in Budapest are the same as most American cities, and often less extreme. If you’re already planning to refrain from drinking or going out, you’re avoiding a lot of that. When it comes to busy tourist areas, being in the presence of so many people will also make it more likely someone will see and act if something happens. If you’re with a hostel, maybe check if they arrange day tours or have a platform where verified guests can talk beforehand (HostelWorld does, for example). Finally, r/femaletravels is an excellent resource for solo female travelers (and for anyone really) but safety is often discussed there and their experiences could help inform yours.
I’ve done the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this Meta Quest 2 meditations, and they’re kinda amazing, though the narration wasn’t as good as headspace. The visuals were really oddly helpful, but headspace Andy is still my homeboy. ? You can sit in your room, hearing cars and people or you sit in a digital enviroment with noise canceling headphones. Whats the matter? It’s just a different enviroment Yes, exactly! I can hear the ebs and flows of existence. I can hear the conversation of the universe happening outside my window, or i can distract myself from all that out while putting a device on my head, with a screen centimeters away from my eyes, and electricity flowing through it to experience a faux reality that distracts me from the conversations of life happening outside my window. You are right now on the internet. Communicating. It’s a reality you experience every day. Why not explore it on a deeper level? You have a very dichotomous mindset. Noone says to “only meditate in vr”. It’s just another space of reality.
You are 100% correct about my mindset and it is definitely something I’ve been working on for some time. No one is perfect and I acknowledge my flawed ways of dichotomous thinking. Thank you for pointing it out, as i like to be held accountable for any bullshit i spew. With that said, i can only speak from my own experiences and how my flawed perceptions and inferences see things. I don’t necessarily think of technology is an “bad” (although i kind of do. Another flawed way of thinking i need to work on) but the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this motivation for these technologies is control over the masses. The vast majority of my personal experiences using technology has greatly impacted my life in extremely negative ways. I also perceive it doing the same for most of humanity. Whether others can see that is dependent on their experiences, inferences, perceptions, and i’ll even say delusions.
Can technology be used to make he world a better place? Perhaps, but a $3,000 product that uses rare earth metals and things from places like the Defund New Jersey -shirt in other words I will buy this congo where slaves work to get these rare earths so some of us can buy a product to further dive into a life distraction, especially when it comes to something as beautiful and intimate as mediation seems completely absurd to me. I personally think humans can have a much more amazing experience meditating without the use of a product that perpetuates class heirarchy, human slavery, and the promotion of billionaires. I’m all for demonizing technology as we use it today until someone can make an argument against why I’m incorrect about the thoughts i have about it. I also know i am incorrect in many ways, but in my opinion, the cons far outweigh the pros. Can technology help make things better? Perhaps, but in it’s current form i believe it does the opposite. Again, I don’t think technology is necessarily negative, but the way we humans use technology and the motivations for new technology heavily leans towards dystopia.
