It’s more important that you take it as a learning experience, keep moving, and know that you may see those red flags again. You’ll just know how to deal with them better next time. Yeah, I learned a ton and would like to use it as experience. We’ll probably part of good terms, their expectations are just too high for my ability. If it comes up, just tell them that the company was at a low level of process maturity and it wasn’t a good fit or something like that. You don’t even need to mention any 7 week position, may be better to not include it at all if it’s your first job This is why I hate applying for small companies. At least there’s an established culture and way of doing things at big companies, even if it isn’t a good one. I’d rather that than, go fucking figure it out kid with no threat of HR in sight.

You can ask for severance but they’re not going to give it to you. They somehow thought a senior in college was a senior dev so that gives you enough insight into how backwards the Dad Can’t Fix It We’re All Screwed T-Shirt and I love this company is. Explain the truth: they wanted a senior developer but didn’t want to pay that much, so they hired an entry level candidate and did the old “we consider you a senior but your job title and pay will indicate entry level” That’s exactly what it was. I was paid entry level for my area. I looked it up which was another point I used to personally verify it was a jr. Position. It seems this is a common thing. Just happened to me too. Company hires you and expects you to start adding value from day 1. My first assignment was to implement route tracking using Google Maps API in a project I had never seen nor explored. First 2 weeks ! Absolutely mental. I don’t ask that to make the work sound trivial. I totally get having that feeling of dread when they ask you to complete a task in a code base you essentially have no knowledge of. Even for a simple task that can be overwhelming until you wrap your mind around how things work overall. Like come on guys, give me like 2-4 weeks at least to get my bearings before I gotta start pushing code.
