It was quite depressing, because as a woman I wanted to convict a rapist, but we really didn’t have enough to go on to do so. But otherwise, the experience was interesting and worthwhile. I got called up once. Got a letter saying trial could last up to 8 weeks so managed to get 8 weeks paid leave. Then I got a letter saying they already had enough people and I wasn’t required which was kind of a shame Did mine just after 21st birthday 20 years ago. Lots of scummy bastards on trial, many scummy judgmental jurors (he looks like he did it, probably did it) incapable of digesting the information provided.

I got called up last year. I don’t know if I was lucky a mild annoyance but I was called a bit after my 19th birthday and proceeded to not get called for any of the Cowboy Claus Cowboy Santa Hat Xmas Christmas Western Style Shirt and I love this cases. Pretty much an open and shut case based on the judge’s directions on the law concerned. What I found really powerful was the absolute seriousness that all the jury treated it with. We deliberated for a day and a half as we weren’t unanimous. The foreman was brilliant in managing the discussion. I hope that if I’m ever in the dock I’d get the same consideration.

After that I didn’t see him again, so probably successful.
I was called up a few years ago and ended up sitting on a jury for a Robbery trial. I did jury service at the age of about 18 years and 3 months and I wasnt even the youngest one in the group I did it with. I did jury duty when I was about 21. Got the summons the same week I got accepted at a new job so they were very pleased..
It was a case of a group of prisoners got into a fight and assaulted a prison guard and we had to decide whether or not it was affray.. Day four the prosecution lawyer was still sick so we were sent home again. That evening received a call saying we were no longer required and were consequently discharged from jury service.
Had to do three weeks… 13 counts historical child sexual abuse / rape offences. It was tough listening to her being cross examined. Never want to do that again. Enjoyed my two weeks. Three cases lasting two days each. All drug related cases around dealers getting caught Deliberation room was odd as some people are easily influenced and I wouldn’t like my future being determined by that method Think our longest decision was about 1hour as we needed a 10-2 verdict initially.
