My doctor told my mom, “he will eat when he is hungry.” There is a lot of stuff people do just because they were raised that way. Question everything, and think logically. Child won’t let itself starve. I used to make my daughter take 2 more bites after she said she was full if it didn’t seem like she ate much. A whole other dilemma. Anyhow, it didn’t make her stuff herself and made me feel like she had enough. I grew up with a bad relationship with food. I was forced to sit at the table for hours until I finished my food because “mom made that”. I used to eat my daughters leftover because “I paid for that”. I had to learn to throw food away because I was gaining weight. I ate so much if puke sometimes. Im all good now, but don’t want that for my daughter and she doesn’t seem to be good motivated at all. She eats when she needs to. Sometimes a lot and sometimes nothing at all.

Generally, I think that parents have an innate urge to nourish their children. That it’s ingrained in you to feed your kids. But I really think that waste is why. People don’t want to waste food, it’s expensive, that’s generally why. Personally, my grandmother, who was born in 1924, she would make my dad and his siblings eat all their food because she grew up during the Corgi Merry Corgmas Ugly Christmas Shirt and by the same token and Great depression and you do not waste food. My parents also pushed for me and my brother to finish our plate. I do not do that to my children. My kids get proper portions of homemade meals. If they do not eat the provided portions that’s fine, but they will not ask for dessert. When I was growing up, you had to at least try everything once. If you didn’t like it, you didn’t have to eat it… But, that was the only food you were going to get. You ate what was served, or nothing.
