We still want to move out, of course, but thanks to my mum we have a chance to move out to buy rather than move out to rent. And I think she quite likes the Come Play With Us Wednesday Christmas shirt also I will do this company for the time being. She loves not having to do a food shop after 40ish years! My son 25 earns £40k a year, lives with us in a 5 bedroom house, off street parking, all food, internet, all sky package, mobile bills, heating, clothes washed and ironed. I charged my older children a little less than the price of a nasty bedsit. I saved some of this money for them as I knew it would come in handy later. 2012 my mum chargded me £60 a month, paid for electric, Internet (that I was sole user) and food, I was out the house most of the time though and was on like less than £1k a month with £250 a month car insurance. (yay 17/18)

I think if you’re going to be saving them money I’d go harder on them, so you can cover some food costs but still save money I work part time and still live at home. My dad asks for just £40 a week. It’s enough to help contribute towards the Come Play With Us Wednesday Christmas shirt also I will do this bills but still be okay to buy my own food etc My parents didn’t charge me a penny until I moved out earlier this year. But that’s becasue they knew I was saving for my own place and making me pay them would mean less money I could save to move out sooner. I did offer to pay my way, but they said no – so I can say I tried. I didn’t rely on them to do anything for me outside of the roof over my head + electricity. I bought all my own food, cooked it and would also clean up around the house. They’ve admitted they didn’t realise how much I did around the house until I left lol. In all honesty, it entirely depends on the mentality of your children, most would’ve been comfy in my situation and just stayed at home living it up. Haven’t got kids but I was charged 20% of takehome when I lived at home. So in this case £300 each per month. Seemed reasonable when I was a kid and still seems reasonable as a middle aged adult
