I’ve walked by one a few times in a mall near me. I thought about going in to look at and get a book. But then I thought fuck Amazon trying to make a bookstore after fucking physical bookstores. Hot take. They wanted to speed up the Coaching For Everyone Premium T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this end of physical book stores. They own audible and other ebook services. It was all for profit. At one of the local malls near me, there’s been a “coming soon” sign for one of these for the last 6 months. I guess it never is now. I had no idea they even had any physical stores, other than that pilot project one where you scan stuff with your phone. You mean the hodgepodge of shit stores that you walk in and say WTF is going on in here? I’ve been in two different styles at high end malls. Both seemed like someone dumped a bunch of stolen Amazon packages around the store. They were stores you’d go to if you didn’t know what you were looking for and wandering aimlessly was your chosen mode of discovery. I went into one of these a few weeks ago. It felt like a thrift shop. There didn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason as to what kind of things they carried. It just seemed like random things that maybe hadn’t sold from a nearby warehouse or something. Those pop ups were a bit of a thing back a few years ago, but I really couldn’t see them taking off in a major way. If Amazon really wanted to do something great, it could speed up the shipping AND HANDLING. I get something that’s “two day shipping” and it takes them a week to START SHIPPING it.

How about improving your site, so we don’t see an item selling for $0.01 and $39.99 shipping. What kind of joke is that? Fun fact: because people are far more willing to pay $20 for a book or a record then a file – the Coaching For Everyone Premium T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this profit margin for physical media is surprisingly high. Also, theoretically, the best way to stop Amazon would be to systemically abandon their insecure web services for better alternatives, such as linode. AWS has a 25% profit margin, compared to ~2% for their store. Of course, this is purely for educational purposes. To focus on other types of physical stores, this is not the end of Amazon going into physical stores and believe me they will succeed I kinda WTFed at the Amazon 4-Star store in Mall of America when one of the random products on display was the water filter for my refrigerator. Only physical store I’ve seen that stocked it. Apparently a sufficient number of others in Minnesota need Filter 1 for their Whirlpool and related brand refrigerators with ice makers and in door water. So what does this mean? Can someone ELI5 me please? What is 4-star and the Pop-up shops? You mean like the Amazon Go stores?? Lol, they just announced a 4-star would be opening near me like, 4 months ago. I even ran across a job posting for it on Indeed just a few weeks back. It was so entirely random that I don’t understand how it would work. Like, do you just walk in thinking that of the millions of products they sold, the thing you wanted would be there?
