I am not being sarcastic. I know at least 2 couples who started out this way and are now married for several years with kids etc… And in terms of what your friend did? Honestly speaking the only thing that works for him is the thing that works for him. He took his chance on the existing relationship being fragile and it worked out for him. I don’t really approve either way but one way is better than the other. If he went out of his way to actually “break” that relationship or actively sabotage it in some way so she’d be more likely to choose him, I would feel very uncomfortable with that. If he hounded her and didn’t give up until she caved even if she initially said no, I wouldn’t respect that either.
