178 more repliesThere is such a blatant disregard for other people’s property these days. It seems to get worse every day. At least their kid is smart enough to graduate high school. The infuriating thing for me is there is a car parked just in front of it on the curb, meaning there is enough room without parking on your mailbox. People are actually clueless. Last week I saw a guy parking at the grocery store. Just pulled the side of his car directly into a cement post. Slowed down a bit, then just kept going until the post was literally stopping his vehicle from moving further. Dude must have forgotten that mirrors exist. They were obviously trying to help you by not blocking the mailbox so you can still get your mail. Honestly you should thank them instead of complaining about them /s That’s a federal offense. Mailboxes even though owned by you are actually property of the federal government. I would call the police. So wait a minute… the driver would have heard all the CRUNCHING AND SCRAPING noises upon contact with the mailbox…. then gotten out of the car after parking…. SEEN the collapsed mailbox wedged under their car because it’s ON THE SAME SIDE of the car, and then thought “I’m good” and then WALKED AWAY?!?! What the hell!!!! Honda had an accord recall related to being able to remove the Christmas Troll Face Icon shirt in addition I really love this key from the ignition even if the car wasn’t fully in park. When operating normally, it’s supposed to require the car to be in park before you can remove the key. Wonder if that happened here and the car rolled. Write down the license plate number, contact police, tell them what happened and ask them for the person’s details. Contact the owner of the car and send them a bill with a deadline attached, if they don’t pay up by the deadline, contact police again. Remember that an out-of-court civil settlement is always preferable for all parties involved. If need be you can either get yourself an attorney and sue in civil court (expensive and probably not worth it for the cost of a mailbox) or as I mentioned get the police involved and if need be, let a court pursue criminal charges. Besides the obvious property damage, there’s probably also a parking violation and possibly some sort of trespassing charge present here, considering that the vehicle was temporarily abandoned on your property. If the scraping at the back of the car is any indication, he’s a ridiculously bad driver. Id call police. What a jackass.
