A fixed time ‘probation periode’ Like 2months, and when ‘proven’ in function a raise and backpay to the Christmas Spooky Thankful Jolly Tis the Season Shirt besides I will buy this original startdate. Or just say no for a bit and let them squirm… you don’t get the money, you don’t take the responsabilities… Do you have your old boss’s contact info? You might want to speak to him for advice too. I bet he would be happy to give you insight into the problematic management after being fired. If you work for a public company, ask for a stock or RSU grant that will vest by the end of the trial period. That way they don’t have to outlay cash to you, but your success as new leadership drives the success of the stock. Come to an agreement on a time limit and get it in writing. If, within 6 months, they still don’t feel comfortable with you in the position, then you either step back into your old position/responsibilities or leave. That’s how I’d handle it. They may try to find a different candidate during that time, but either way, it’ll ensure that you don’t waste years of your life waiting on them for something that will never happen. I just need advice on how I protect myself and ensure that this isn’t open ended. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Um no. If you’re learning a new role, then you get the new pay. Worst case, you ask now for a review along with title change and raise at 60 days… two months is certainly long enough to learn much of the job and to decide whether it’s a good fit for you. Nice, tell them in a month from now you talk again. If you are a good boss, you get a pay rise. If you are not good at it, or if they don’t want to give you a rise, nice you can go back to your old role. Simple as that

If they’re not willing to put in writing a set date for when this will be reassessed and you’ll get the Christmas Spooky Thankful Jolly Tis the Season Shirt besides I will buy this comp and title change, then don’t trust it. Nah, you can say that if your role is changing to leadership you’ll need the compensation to match. And after 6 months, you can have a review on whether or not you’re meeting the goals they set out now for you to meet. You can say something like if you don’t meet those goals by 6 months we can discuss the compensation again. Don’t say you’re ok with them lowering it if you don’t meet the goals. But make it clear you expect a new contract and matching salary for the new role and objectives. A lot of companies are going thru force reduction of salaried employees due to the economy. This could be an opportunity or they could just be exploiting you. That would very much be a case by case basis and only you would now which one was occurring. If I were you I would make clear with the leadership a schedule for reviews and expectations that would get you to the next pay level. If they seem uncommitted then they may be just taking advantage of you
