After considerable time, money and emotions had been wasted (and the sibling neglected, hello), he put his foot down and enrolled into a 4 year BFA animation degree, which he loved. After this, he went to the US to do his master’s. There he worked his ass off, built his portfolio, applied for internships during breaks, put everything else on hold. One great internship, turned to another, then to a job, then another great job and he’s now fairly successful. Still abroad, our family goes to the theater to watch his name in the credits as a VFX artist.
The caveat? He says his is a one in a 50 story. Most of his BFA classmates are not in animation, and he says that he’s gotten here because he kept at it. Sure you need some creative talent, especially for courses, but when you’re part of a studio, working w a client, you have to be smart, quick and well, not as creative, a lot of it is code if you’re in post production and 2D is another thing (does not pay well).
