If there is one thing we excel at its highly technical fields like STEM/Medical. Great job, im on the spectrum too but my hyperfocus was mechanical amongst other things, Im also a certified mechanic, have my EPA certs for HVAC, certified Master dive instructor, Journeyman Electrician, Certified EMT, and my Meritimie license to captain a boat. “can do it too”…. I have mixed feelings about my time in grad school. I failed to finish the Chilling with the snowmies Ugly Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this PhD but did attain the Master’s, nor were there issues with my coursework. I’m not sure whether it’s a program with insufficient accomodations for neurodivergence (but very subtle needs that I would miss if unaware I was autistic, which I was but under my own radar), an abusive relationship orienting things askew, or just not being as enamored with what was previously a special interest. Clinical board exams can be rough for folks with autism or related social quirks. They expect you to behave neurotypical with mock patients. You genuinely look like Andrew WK as a younger man, that’s fucking freaky. Also, huge fucking congrats fellow autie, I am very proud of you! I’m just so happy that more and more health professionals are rising up who have ASD, mental illnesses, and disabilities. the visibility is super important and can make a big difference in better serving folks who have those conditions too. I’m disabled and it can be SO hard to find care workers who are empathetic to my specific needs. I’m sure so many of your future patients will be happy to know you understand and respect their needs completely
