Some of you are saying that they now have to inform you in these circumstances. This is great news, assuming they’re actually doing due diligence to make sure it’s really happening. I just have a gut feeling that the same people who would play this type of greedy malicious game in the first place might be the same people who might not inform you and bank on you not knowing any better.

Funny, if I went around advising people whether or not a surgery is medically necessary for them, I’d get nailed for practicing medicine without a license. But somehow when insurance companies do it, it’s totally legal. One “trick” is to ask the insurance for the name and license number of the doctor in the insurance company that denied the claim / pre-authorization. Then, the claim will go to a real doctor who will likely approve it. If they don’t give it to you in 24 hours, report them to your state’s DOI. This is the site for MA residents.
