If the Cat Ew People Meowy Cat Lovers T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this answer to any of these questions is ‘no’ then you need to start looking for a new job yourself, because otherwise they are going to hang you out to dry. They want the OP as a “band-aid” to get them through. He’s going to be disposable once they fill that position. I’ve seen it happen multiple times. Are you a woman? There are lawsuits successfully won by women who named “Acting Director/manager” for a long time then given back pay. Ask for the title now, and tell them they can retroactive the pay raise after a 3 month review. You should have a set probationary period, and then a raise kicks in. If they aren’t willing to do that, then they were never going to give you a raise. They get to get rid of a while Director level salary and then they don’t want to up a team members pay a bit to take on more responsibilities? Sounds like classic “I’m a dick not suited to run a company” kind of bs from you higher ups.

Say you won’t even start without signing a new employment contract securing the Cat Ew People Meowy Cat Lovers T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this position and that defines compensation and responsibilities, even if those responsibilities don’t start immediately. Make sure it’s explicit about when the on-boarding ends and the new title with explicit responsibilities and pay begins on X date. An increase in job responsibility should unilaterally give you a pay increase. Just ask the theoretical question to the COO, if you had to take on more job responsibility would it be fair for you not be paid more? Idk I mean I think it depends if you trust them and whether you see yourself with the company long term. Sounds to me like you could spoil a good opportunity to move way up in this company by coming off as ‘entitled’ and/or ‘difficult to work with’ by making demands and not going with the flow of what they are saying. It’s a tough choice and there’s not an obvious right answer in my opinion. Don’t want to be taken advantage of, of course, but by playing along you just might be able to find yourself in a cushy position that pays more for less work. Just my thoughts.
