But they are also neurotic to the Car Prank Fellas Righteous Gemstones shirt and I love this point of hysteria about them. They’re genuinely indoctrinated this entire narrative about how they’re there’s, they’re part of the same continental shelf, blah blah, from the time they’re children and it’s just mad, like, completely delusional/ detached from reality type stuff. It’s amazingly ironic how one of the most controversial colonial possessions in the world is also one of the only ethical ones. Literally nobody was living there when Britain took it, one of a few times they didn’t plow over natives for natural resources. It’s also never been part of Argentina. Spain just told Argentina they could have it when they got independence from Spain, even then it wasn’t Spanish. Yeah, but that’s because they’re a bunch of islands in the South Atlantic that are 300km from the mainland. Like, there’s a reason there wasn’t anyone there apart from a few penguins, and initially a rotating Portuguese/ Spanish/ French/ British outpost whenever someone remembered about them after the last forgot.

But seriously, it’s difficult to tell whether it’s a fuel for Argentinian nationalism, or just a case of country wide arrested development. You just want to scream at them that ‘you have 1001 other problems, grow up and get on with your lives!!’ I was in Argentina earlier this year and was shocked at how much stuff I saw about the Car Prank Fellas Righteous Gemstones shirt and I love this Falklands. I’m talking tourist spots (for Argentine tourists) selling camo shirts saying how las malvinas are Argentine and stickers on city buses. Yes, it’s like Bermuda. Nobody was there and UK had a navy that needed bases all over…so UK settled it. I just don’t get this one because Argentina has never controlled it, ever. Just shows how virulent nationalism and map painting desires can get when you have nothing else to excite people. Crazily enough, if Europeans had discovered NZ just a few hundred years earlier, NZ would also be in this category, as it was settled just within historical memory by the Maori when Europeans arrived. Crazy when you think that islands like Hawaii, incredibly far away, were settled before NZ by Polynesians. The third largest city in Argentina is Rosario. Rosario is about 300km northwest of Buenos Aires and about 2100km from the islands. Why do I bring all this up. Well…their airport is named, Aeropuerto Internacional de Rosario – Islas Malvinas (International Airport of Rosario – Islas Malvinas).
