Okay, I’ll grant you that one. Servants are still a luxury beyond most ordinary people in modern times. Although even there, we do employ a lot of people to take care of things for us that we don’t want to do ourselves. For instance, far more people eat out today vs making their own food, which was the Byron Murphy Paper American football cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings T-Shirt in other words I will buy this standard for almost everyone in the past. So while we don’t all have access to the luxury of an army of servants, as a society we are clearly far more prosperous. The end result is the same, though. Hot water is available, and you don’t need to work for it. That other people need to work for it isn’t your problem. They are. You’re the king. You’re the one paying their livelihood, and pissing you off could end very bad for them. I… don’t think you can lead a hunting party unless you’re seriously rich. And while you have more things to do, there were plenty of amusements back then, too.

No they’re not. They don’t magically appear by your side whenever you want someone to sing a song. At best you have to send for them to come to you, and hope they happen to be close by that they can get there the Byron Murphy Paper American football cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings T-Shirt in other words I will buy this same day. Yes you could keep some singers and musicians on constant retainer but that’s yet another big expense that a modern man need not pay. And if you’re an English king and you want to hear the latest thing in Italian music, good luck finding a band of wandering Italian musicians to play for you. You’ll have to send away for them and who knows how long that will take or how much it will cost. Whereas, again, a modern man has that at his fingertips at all times. People go hunting all the time. You call up your buddies and say “hey, want to go hunting this weekend?” There. Hunting party assembled. They absolutely did. While I’m sure you’ve been taught that kings just let their peasants starve through bad winters, the reality is as a monarch you need those peasants alive or else your kingdom dies. They are the ones producing all that food for you. If the peasant population takes a major hit, suddenly there aren’t enough hands available to harvest the crops, which means the next season will be even worse. In hard times even a king would have to stick to a budget.
